(57) Abstract :<br />

An apparatus <strong>and</strong> method for the early detection <strong>of</strong> a subject in a drowning or in a near drowning situation in a body <strong>of</strong> water, such as<br />

a swimming pool, are disclosed. When the drowning or near drowning situation is identified the apparatus issues an alarm signal that,<br />

in order to promote early rescue, attracts the relative, guest, Iriend or any other person following the identification <strong>of</strong> the alarm signal<br />

the potential rescuer is capable <strong>of</strong> initiating an immediate rescue operation <strong>and</strong> consequently requisite emergency medical procedures.<br />
