(57) Abstract :<br />

A method <strong>of</strong> sialic acid removal which is excellent in easiness <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>itability; <strong>and</strong> a process for asialoerythropoietin production by<br />

the method. The method <strong>of</strong> sialic acid removal comprises an acidification/heat treatment step in which a solution containing<br />

erythropoietin is acidified <strong>and</strong> heated to thereby remove the sialic acid bonded to the erythropoietin molecules. The process for<br />

asialoerythropoietin production includes a sialic acid removal step in which the sialic acid bonded to erythropoietin molecules is<br />

removed by the method <strong>of</strong> sialic acid removal.<br />
