LEARNING THROUGH THEATRE
staR tURns!
To complement and add value to our main house programme, we deliver a range of related workshops, master classes,
open rehearsals, pre and post show talks, enabling young people access to unique and creative opportunities delivered
by leading professionals in their related field.
sUppoRting Roles!
We can support schools to create an enhanced understanding of curricula subjects, by creating innovative non-show
related workshops and projects based on the working of theatre. These include science, environmental studies, and
history discovery days in addition to numeracy, literacy and music. We also offer technical theatre days, insights into
careers (both off and on stage) and can help create workshops for BTEC Performing Arts modules.
We are always happy to work with teachers to develop bespoke workshops, designed individually for your school.
“A truly inspirational project, providing students of all abilities with a wonderful insight into the
world of professional dance”
A glorious score, unforgettable sets and costumes combine with sizzling
choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverant interpretation
of this traditional favourite.
HALF TERM TREAT. STOMP is fresher, faster, funnier with new routines,
new choreography and new music. Eight performers use everything
from bins to brooms and even a kitchen sink!
Birmingham Royal Ballet’s story of boots, booze, love and laughter!
Using beautiful music and David Bintley’s stunning choreography to tell
this classic story of our time.
Two uplifting stories of young love tested to breaking-point in the
fantastical tale of Daphnis and Chloë on an island paradise and the
poignant tale of a young artist and his fiancée, with a rich romantic score
in The Two Pigeons.
Three operas and three stories taking us from one end of the emotional
spectrum to the other - tragedy to comedy... Take your pick. All a
fantastic introduction to opera: La traviata; Beatrice & Benedict and
The Marriage of Figaro. English surtitles.
Cameron Macintosh’s fabulous new production of Lionel Bart’s
masterpiece, Oliver! brings vividly to life Dickens’ unforgettable
characters with its ever popular story of the boy who asked for more.
With a sensational score of much loved songs including: Food Glorious
Food; Consider Yourself; I’d Do Anything and Oom Pah Pah, this production
is a wonderful vehicle to introduce young children to musical theatre.
One of the largest dance festivals in the world, IDFB brings a
remarkable line-up of outstanding dance to venues and public spaces
across Birmingham and the West Midlands. It also creates a wealth of
engaging participatory activity for people of all ages. Follow the festival
story at www.idfb.co.uk.
A ballet in four parts, Artifact features music by J.S. Bach and
scenography, lighting, costumes and choreography all by William
Forsythe. It is famous for the way it subverts the traditional physical
principles of ballet and plays with audiences ideas about what ballet
can be. Part of IDFB 2012.
One of the greatest musicals of all time. This heart-warming story of a
British governess brought to the court of Siam to tutor the King’s many
children. This breath-taking new production is a lavish, grandscale
spectacle, with sumptuous set and costumes.
World famous, but rarely seen outside of Cuba, this breathtaking
company of 21 dancers brings the heat and passion of Cuba to the stage
with an eclectic mix of contemporary dance fused with Afro-Caribbean
and Spanish styles. Part of IDFB 2012.
Olivier Award, a Time Out Award, Best Choreography (Modern) at the
National Dance Awards and the South Bank Show Dance Award. This
mixed programme is a testament to the ingenuity of this partnership:
‘Maliphant’s choreography has never felt so emotional; Guillem has
never looked lovelier. It’s a pairing made in heaven.’ The Times
Part of IDFB 2012.
The international festival of hip hop dance theatre is back with another
line-up of jawdropping performances by international and local street
dance crews. And lots of pre show foyer events with djs; mcs; and graffiti
artists. Part of IDFB 2012.
An award-winning musical comedy, set in 30’s New York City, with
spectacular sets, dazzling choreography and a sensational score by the
legendary Leonard Bernstein. This amazing production is the perfect
antidote to the exam season for students and teachers alike!
We all dream of fame and fortune but Susan Boyle has lived it and is
here to tell the tale. A unique opportunity to see her meteoric rise to
fame from humble beginnings to her world wide success today!
The highly acclaimed Cape Town Opera have taken this all-time iconic
piece of American musical theatre, a beautiful yet tragic love story
originally set amidst the racial tension of the American Deep South, and
updated it, exchanging Gershwin’s Catfish Row to township life in 70’s
apartheid South Africa. With a cast of Cape Town opera singers, many of
whom lived through the oppression, violence, racism and poverty of
those years, this ‘people’s opera’ highlights the social and political
problems among South Africa’s black communities, then and today.
WNO’s summer season includes La bohème - perhaps one of the
greatest love stories ever told. Set in the early 20th century, La bohème
is perhaps one of the best-loved and possibly most accessible operas
for young people new to opera. English surtitles.
Another beautiful balletic adaptation of a classic piece of english
literature by Birmingham Royal Ballet Director, David Bintley, telling a
tragic story of passion and unrequited love.
A tantalizing triple bill with a sizzling taste of Shakespeare, Noel
Coward... and of course, the Olympics!
A perfect end of term treat - when thoughts of exams are over and
dreams of holidays are beginning!
Back to school with a bang - with a fabulous, feel good show, packed
with songs from Motown, funk, soul and disco. Musical theatre at its best!
The ever popular, constant curriculum favourite returns to Birmingham.
A perfect opportunity for all GCSE drama and english students to see
live on stage this perennial favourite - performed as Russell intended!
