Call for women to be bold
International Women’s Day on 8 March
wants women to be bold for change. The
day aims to help women to take action
for themselves, as well as celebrating the
achievements of women.
To help women locally to make a
change for the better – and bolder –
Happy Bodies gym in Old Stratford is
offering their facilities and advice. On
this day, women aged over 16 can use
the gym for free all day, including the
equipment, classes or taster sessions.
You are welcome if you:
• have never set foot in a gym before
• are nervous of exercising because
of how you see yourself
• stopped your exercise routine because
of family, illness or maybe work
• are exercising and would like to
step up it up to reach a goal.
Whatever your reasons or story, Happy
Creating with glass
Bodies would love to meet you to
help you be bold and take action.
Research shows that women who
take part in sport and exercise have
higher levels of confidence, self-worth
and esteem, as well as lower levels
of depression. Exercise also helps
women to develop a more positive
body image. Make 8 March the
day that you begin to rebuild your
confidence about your body.

A fun afternoon of glass fusing was had
at the Vitreus Art Glass Studio recently.
Lucas, 2nd prize winner of the
Essentially Local Magical Christmas
drawing competition, enjoyed an
afternoon of learning how to create
glass art with Jenny Timms, artist and
co-owner of Vitreus Art.
Lucas normally prefers using felt-tip
pens to achieve the fine detail in his
meticulous artwork. While working with
Jenny, he learnt that different mediums
work in different ways and if you are
careful you can still achieve lots of detail
using glass. Take a look at the photo
of the finished pieces – ‘A nod to a
London Bus’, and the ‘Sword & Pickaxe’
symbols from Warhammer Games.
“It was very interesting and great
to learn something new, it was also
very fun as well,” said Lucas. “It was
very special working with glass and
Jenny was very kind. They did a
brilliant example of the ice cream in
glass, showing how to do things. The
chocolate cake was very tasty as well!”
“It’s always a pleasure to share
what we do here at Vitreus Art with
others and to show them there are lots
of different art forms to work with,”
Jenny Timms of Vitreous Art explained.
“Lucas has a wonderful imagination
and it’s very obvious that he has an
