Preparing the town
Grey Streets for Wildlife’ and the SSIB
projects will reflect this. More and
more plants have been added along
the London Road Allotments fence –
this must be one of the most colourful
boundaries around!
Stony in Bloom have been around
town planting, weeding and preparing
the town for the beautiful and
changing colours that will be seen
through the year. Despite dodging
the rain showers and keeping warm
through the frosts, they have not had
to cancel any work groups.
You should already be able to see
the attractive new shrubs that stand
proudly in the sensory bed on London
Road after a complete redesign and
removal of old, over-grown shrubs.
RHS Theme
This year, the RHS theme is ‘Greening
Paving Stones
Where paving stones have lifted
around the tree roots in Market
Square, SSIB have been in touch
with Milton Keynes Council. They are
waiting for permission to add a little
compost and plant variegated vinca.
Keep a look out for signs that show
they have been given the go-ahead.
Pruning
As long as it isn’t frosty, pruning roses
and fruit trees are winter jobs and
you may have seen the team busily
pruning the Galley Hill roundabout
roses and the north end entrance to
town. Robin Nichols made a beautiful
new planter to replace the one moved
to Wolverton Road.
Diary dates
• 13 March – talk on wildlife in
the Ouse Valley Park with the
Parks Trust.
• 29 April – SSIB Plant Sale and
Tombola in conjunction with
the York House Coffee
• Morning with Shakespeare
excerpts and other attractions.
