ABOUT US
Cedar Nursery is based near Cobham in Surrey. Just down the road from Effingham and East Horsley, established in 1986 by
Tim and Kate Sharples, we are an independent, family run Plant and Outdoor Living Centre in the heart of Surrey, serving
consumers and garden professionals for over 30 years.
Not only do we offer a exclusive range of planters, our aim is to offer a unique range of plants and outdoor living products.
Our plant varieties are both old & new which we know perform well, individually picked by us and sourced mainly from local
growers. By stocking the best varieties and having expertise available on site to advise you we can ensure outstanding value
with plants that will thrive, perform & delight. Please contact us if you would like any help or advice; we have many specialists
who will answer your questions.

BESPOKE STEEL PLANTERS
With decades of experience our expert craftsmen hand-form your planters with
great care and attention; this UK based workshop ensures a rapid and accurate
build. Each planter is individually built to your exact specifications. All our
planters are made to order and as such we do not produce any standard sizes.
Galvanised & Powder-coated steel planters have established themselves as a
popular choice for modern gardens. With their striking sharp lines and shining
surfaces, our elegant designs are an eye catching addition which fit perfectly
with any planting scheme. Constructed from high-grade UK sourced galvanised
steel sheets (or Zintec steel sheets for powder-coated planters), the planters
have an extensive lifespan. Galvanised finishes can maintain a brilliant shine if
coated with oil based products (e.g. WD40) or left to mellow with a matte
patina, powder-coated planters can be specified with either a gloss or matt
coating for a long lasting finish (see page 62 and 63 for details).

FIBREGLASS PLANTERS
Our range of fibreglass planters are professionally designed to suit any
situation and style. Hand-made in the UK, our planters can either be finished in
a range of vibrant colours from the colour-matching schemes RAL or
Cromadex (coming soon), or a number of special finishes, all of which are
weather and sunlight resistant so that they maintain their appearance without
fading. Our planters are hand-crafted in the UK with consistent high quality
and short lead times for your bespoke requirements. With their elegant design
and plentiful finish options, they are an ideal fit for any garden area,
complementing a wide range of plants. Planters can be pre-drilled for drainage
if used outside, or left sealed and fully water-tight for interior use.
Fibreglass itself is made from special plastic polymers which are then
reinforced with randomly arranged glass fibres. This produces a strong
lightweight material whose bulk strength exceeds many metals with the
advantage that it can be easily moulded into complex shapes. As such it is the
perfect material for outdoor planters especially where weight is an issue. See

and is the most cost effective paint finish, over 75%

High Gloss
A deep gloss finish, very highly polished and striking,
again, like Smooth Matt this is similar to a

TERRACOTTA PLANTERS
A beautiful collection of hand-finished terracotta containers and planters
including contemporary and traditional designs. The refinement of the
collection is reviewed annually by a team of designers, working closely with the
manufacturing and marketing teams to update the designs and introduce
unique models and product ideas.
The colour of the clay has a mellow antique finish that is subtle and is perfectly
harmonious with the classic as well as the more contemporary styles. Each
piece is hand-finished to the highest standards. Their composition and
thickness make them very robust and sturdy and they are fully certified as frost
-resistant.
The larger pots are ample for specimen trees and shrubs whilst the smaller

IRONSTONE PLANTERS
The Ironstone and Old Ironstone ranges are perfect for those looking for a
hard wearing planter that is also classically styled. Made from a salt glazed
clay , they are fired to temperatures in excess of 1000 degrees centigrade.
They are given a weather beaten finish that combines interestingly with a range
of designs, some modern, resulting in a striking and unique collection.
Old Ironstone planters are manufactured in the same established manner as
our Ironstone range, but with an antique twist. Before firing, the pots are sand
blasted by hand to achieve a pitted, antiqued and authentic patina that is never
replicated. We keep stock of these in the UK for quick delivery to you, or come
and collect from Cedar Nursery in Cobham, we have display and stock available
all year.

CORTEN STEEL PLANTERS
Starting out as a blue steel, as soon as Corten Steel is exposed to the elements
it will naturally weather and develop a rich eye catching finish. This natural
fixed coating of rust provides protection against further corrosion.
During the weathering process the Corten Steel produces carbon run off which
can stain adjacent materials such as stone or concrete. To reduce this possible
staining, all Corten Steel products have small feet, lifting the product and
preventing direct contact with the flooring material.
After the initial reactive period Corten Steel will cure and self-seal with little to
no carbon run off.
Standard material thickness is 2mm and we offer a made to measure service as
well as our wide range of sizes of boxes, cylinders and troughs.

hardwoods and available in a range of sizes and designs. Whether you are
looking for a garden pot for flowers or topiary this stunning selection will suit
any landscape or decked area.
Because hardwood offers excellent durability, no additional treatment is
required.
This collection is also available in bespoke sizes, please contact us fore more
details. All our Hardwood Planters are constructed using stainless steel
fasteners, we then wrap the interior of the planter with an anti-root fabric to
prolong the life of the planters. Customised sizes are available on certain
models with no minimum order.
