THE MILITARY AND HOSPITAL' ER ORDER OF SAINT LAZARUS OF JERUSALEM
In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
AGREEMENT OF REUNIFICATION
Whereas, following a division that persisted for over thirty years, the Paris Obedience and the Malta Obedience
of The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem (such Obediences together referred to
hereinafter as the "Reunited Order") have reunited and merged together by agreement made on 12th October
2006 in Houston;
Whereas, certain national jurisdictions (being Austria*, England & Wales, Germany, Hungary, Ireland,
Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Romania & Slovakia) that formed part of the Paris Obedience of The Military and
Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem until the Chapter General of that Obedience held in Toronto in
2004 continued thekeafter to operate separately from the Paris Obedience but sharing a common history,
heritage, tradition and mission, such jurisdictions lately having become known as the Norwich Group,
administered by a Governing Council under the chairmanship of H.E. the Rt. Hon. the Earl Ferrers in
accordance with the Constitution of the Paris Obedience adopted in Angers in 1990;
Whereas, it is manifestly in the best interests of The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of
Jerusalem for the Norwich Group to be reconciled and reunited with their brothers and sisters of the Reunited
Order, both in conformity with their joint commitment to Christian unity, and in furtherance of their shared
mission to sustain and defend the Christian faith; to assist, succor and help the poor, the sick and the afflicted;
to promote and maintain the principles of Christian Chivalry; and to follow the teachings of Christ; and
Whereas, it has been agreed that such reconciliation and reunification should occur;
Now, therefore, premises considered, the Reunited Order and the Norwich Group, each acting by and through
its duly authorised representatives, do hereby covenant and agree that effective the date hereof they shall and do
hereby reunite together in the one body known and referred to as The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint
Lazarus of Jerusalem; and
It is further agreed, that the Constitution of the Reunited Order adopted in Houston on 12th October 2006 is,
and shall continue to be, in full force and effect as the Constitution (the "Constitution") of The Military and
Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem;
Further agreed, that H.E. Don Carlos Gereda de BorbOn, Marquis de Almazan, having been duly elected by
Knights and Dames meeting in a Chapter General of the Reunited Order in Manchester on 13th September
2008 and by Knights and Dames meeting in a Chapter General of the Norwich Group in Vienna on 6th
September 2008 shall be, upon his installation in the presence of the Spiritual Protector, His Beatitude Patriarch
Gregory HI, the sole and undisputed Grand Master and constitutional head of The Military and Hospitaller

Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, subject to the provisions of the Constitution;
Further agreed, that unless otherwise directed by the Grand Master, those officers of national jurisdictions of
Tire Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem holding office on the date of this Agreement
shall be confirmed and continue in office with the same responsibilities and authority as heretofore, subject to
the provisions of the Constitution; and
Further agreed, that all agreements, understandings and commitments heretofore made by the Reunited Order
and the Norwich Group shall be honoured and implemented.
* The Grand Priory of Austria's execution of this Agreement is subject to the Declaration of Clarification
annexed hereto. This is a substantive part of the document.
Executed this 13th day of September in the year of our Lord 2008,
in the City of Manchester, England.

DECLARATION OF CLARIFICATION
In 1977, the Order of "Ritter des Heiligen Lazarus zu Jerusalem", in brief "Lazarus Orden" (as cited in
the ecclesiastical decree of Cardinal König of
15 December 1977) was recognised and erected by the Austrian Bishops Conference as a pia unio
(pious association). Thereby, The Lazarus Order in Austria was granted canon and federal civil law
juridical personality. This happened only in the Austrian part of the Order (as the Austrian Bishops
Conference has no extra-territorial jurisdiction) and was duly notified to the Holy See without
objection.
Accordingly, since 1977, the Order of Saint Lazarus in Austria is institutionally an ecclesiastical
corporation of the Catholic Church, and as such is subject to the Canon Law jurisdiction of the
Austrian Bishops Conference.
