SIMPLE, Rugged & Reliable
The Katanga Cross
A currency since the 16th century, sand-cast copper
X-shaped ingots called “Katanga crosses” were named
Katanga after the rich copper mining region is the south-east
of what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Proven in the harsh conditions of Africa
We’ve come a long way since those early efforts to wrest metals from mother earth.
Continual advances are being made in leaching, solvent extraction and electro-winning.
But, Africa remains as harsh as ever.
Every Tank House Technology Cathode and Stripping Machine is designed
and manufactured with this in mind
Tank House Technology Africa-rugged cathodes are manufactured in stainless steel,
titanium or high purity aluminium to the demanding tolerances required for top
performance in copper, zinc, cobalt and nickel tank houses.
Designed to provide superior strength and performance … maximising productivity
and minimising maintenance.
Tank House Technology utilises explosion bonding and/or specialised welding
techniques to produce header bars of high electrical efficiency, aimed at
reducing costs.
An added advantage of explosion bonding is that it provides shear strength
equal to the metal itself. This manifests itself in longer cathode service life.
A sound metallurgical bond offers more than better electrical efficiency.
It also means less corrosion, also contributing to extended cathode life.
Stainless Steel Cathode Blade
Tank House Technology cathode sheets are manufactured to
demanding tolerances from stainless steel (2B finish), high purity
aluminium and titanium to give top performance in the tank house.
Tank House Technology has a range of custom-designed strong edge
and bottom strips in various non-conductive materials to reduce
maintenance requirements and problems in stripping.
Tank House Technology cathodes are manufactured to ISO 9001:2008
Quality Management Systems standards, guaranteeing quality and
customer satisfaction. Experienced Tank House Technology
engineers are on hand to help customers enhance their processes and
provide effective solutions to tank house problems.
After sales service includes the refurbishment of cathodes
Manual stripping of deposited metal from cathodes is both tedious and often results in
cathode damage and production delays.
Tank House Technology stripping machines offer efficient and economical cathode stripping,
whilst protecting the major capital investment of cathodes and improving productivity.
Tank House Technology stripping machines reliably separate deposited metal, with minimal
flexing to ensure the maximum lifespan of cathodes and edge strips.
Like its cathodes, Tank House Technology stripping machines are designed to be
Africa-rugged … characterised by logical design, compact layout, simplicity of maintenance,
and reliability.
Central to the simplicity of design are:
1. Receiving conveyor for plated cathodes, designed to suit cell spacings and lifting bailer
2. In-line washing of cathodes (optional)
3. Hydraulic lifting jib (manual or hydraulically rotated)
4. Stripping station incorporating an hydraulic flexing device
5. Discharge conveyor for stripped cathodes
6. Optional jib for increased throughput
7. Optional roll-down conveyor and packing/strapping frame for copper cathodes
8. Optional station for sample punching and marking
9. Optional jib and rack for removal and repair of damaged cathodes
Although two basic models exist … a 60-cathode per hour system (one hydraulic jib,
one feed conveyor, one return conveyor) and a 120-cathode per hour system
(two hydraulic jibs, two feed conveyors, one return conveyor) … stripping machines
can be designed and built to suit client requirements.
Auxiliary equipment for washing, stacking and packing is available.
