Introduc on
Hearts and minds event was given the opportunity to produce and manage the
rst Calabar Christmas Green Ball Pre-event. Undoubtedly, Calabar is the
centre of Christmas in Africa. With a month of daily events including the
continent's largest street Carnival held every December 27th, internationally
known as Africa's Biggest Street party'. The Carnival attracts over 2,000,000
live spectators and over 50 million television viewers in Africa alone. As part
of the state's growing environmental commitment, a Green Ball' was added to
the line-up of the Calabar Festival events in the year 2013. It was hoped that
the ball will become an annual event to raise awareness about the
environment, conservation and draw attention to the regions unique
biodiversity and eco-tourism in Cross River State.
The increasing appeals of events as an additional element in the tourism destination
marketing mix are evident throughout the world. Major events stimulate the local
economy and “showcase” the region to the world, promoting potential future
tourism and business activity. There are other important positive impacts often
associated with the staging of events, many of which may directly benet the local
population. These include the development of facilities and infrastructure,
entertainment and social opportunities, and a sense of pride and identity brought
about by playing host to a major event.
The event will be a night of passion, awareness creation, education, elegance
and impartation. It will combine glamour, music, comedy, dance, and fashion,
with a green carpet entry.. The best part of last year's “Green Ball” was the
beginning of partnership with the Forestry Commission. The importance of
Nigeria's rainforest habitats such as CERCOPAN (Center of Education,
Research and Conservation of primaries and nature) PANDRILLUS, etc.,
would create a platform not only to extend their message beyond the state
borders, but also to directly engage inuential residents and excite them about
species and Ecosystem, Endemism Conservation efforts and eco-tourism
potential. There will also be informative display and booths in an area during
the event where guest can look through.

Carnival Calabar Green Ball 2015
It will be another eventful Christmas evening with hundred of beautiful
people in attendance. The event will also document the State Government
effort on climate change, and the effort the state is putting with over 600,000
hectares of forest, will be emphasised while projecting the Governor's desire
to make the 2015 Carnival in the spirit of REDD+, with about 10,000 people
carrying young plants, dressed in green which depicts a brand new forest of
10,000 trees and those who plant them will be encouraged to come back the
following year to see how they have grown after one year.

A GREEN CARPET entry will start the evening at 8:00pm prompt,
where guest and celebrities will be interviewed on arrival. it is sure to add
glamour to the event.

he Pre Carnival Calabar Green ball seeks to promote
Tthe clean and Green philosophy of cross river state,
create awareness about the ecotourism and green
business potentials of the state, raise funds to support bio
diversity conservation activities and orphanages in the
state as the diplomatic community, policy makers,
businessmen/Captains of Industry, donors and other high
profile dignitaries meet in an atmosphere of fun. From here,
they become aware of the unique environment of the state,
- it's rich bio diversity, the ecotourism / green business
opportunities in the state and the country in general. There
will be high profile persons to speak on issues such as

spots in the world. It is a center
for many charismatic species
such as Cross River Gorilla,
Chimpanzee Drills, butteries,
birds, elephants and a rich
variety of plant species. There
are many of these plant and
animal species which can only
be found in Cross River State.
As a proof of its diversity, all
the major vegetation types in
Nigeria are found in the State.
There is the Mangrove forest in
the coastal area, rich wetland,
Tropical rainforest is found in
most of the central area of the
State. The Savanna and
montane vegetational are found
in the northern part of the State.
This rich endowment - our
heritage, makes ecotourism a
niche that is waiting to be
d e v e l o p e d . . T h e u n i q u e
