‘tis the season to be
sexy. We know you
want to look your finest
this Valentine’s Day so
Food Herald has got you
covered! We came up with
a list of foods that can be
incorporated into your diet
that will have you looking
and feeling your absolute
sexiest – whether you want that goddess glow
or a little extra energy for a night of romance.
Here are our top 5 sexiest foods:
5
By Trishana Russell
1. STRAWBERRIES
Yum! These berries are not only scrumptious but they’re also good for you! Strawberries are
extremely rich in antioxidants, Vitamin C and folic acid, which have anti-aging properties that
help reduce sagging and are sure to leave your skin glowing. There are many ways to enjoy
strawberries, whether blended in delicious fruit smoothies or covered in decadent chocolate.
Strawberries are also good for whitening and cleaning teeth – so treat those pearly whites
while you’re at it. A sexy smile is a major key!
2. POMEGRANATE
Pomegranate has recently made its name
as a super fruit for its antioxidant properties
which improve blood circulation as well as
boost libido in both males and females.
However, pomegranate can also cause
increased testosterone production in males.
So men, go ahead add this sexy fruit to your
diet and thank us later.
3. EGGS
We’re all familiar with this protein-rich
breakfast food, commonly used by
weightlifters to bulk up and aid in muscle
development. It’s super easy to prepare and
is extremely versatile, making it one of the
top breakfast foods in the world. But did
you know that eggs are also rich in Vitamin
B which helps increase stamina and energy?
you’re welcome.
It is said that this combo is very relaxing and
stimulates blood flow in the brain, helping to
5. WATER
Last but not least – water. The number one
way to stay sexy inside and outside is to drink
lots and lots of water. It’s simple, essential
and seems almost unavoidable. However,
many persons don’t drink the recommended
amount of water per day which is 8 glasses,
by the way. Don’t worry if you don’t make
your daily target every day. Just drink as
much as you can. Water is good for your skin,
digestive system, brain and just about any
other part of the body you can think of. Plus,
staying hydrated is a definite major key.
4. RED WINE
For centuries, red wine has been used as
an aphrodisiac. In fact, ancient Greek and
Romans frequently consumed red wine for
this purpose. So when preparing for a night
of romance, be sure to try out some red wine
to get the party going. To spice things up a
little further, try adding a few chocolate treats.
Name:
Christopher Sinclair-McCalla
Age : 23
What are your specialty dishes?
My specialty dishes include: Sweet Potato
Custard pie, Seared Turmeric Garlic Fish
Fillet, too many to list, honestly. My focus is
on healthier food alternatives that nutrient
dense and gastronomically appealing to both
taste and sight.
What inspired you to be a chef?
The first plan was medicine. I later decided
on a different path as my family pointed out
my culinary capabilities and encouraged me
to follow my passion. By then, it was evident
in the preparation and presentation of foods
that I expressed my love to others through
my cooking.
What dishes do you suggest for a romantic
date?
Featured
To me, you need
Chef
to know what sort of foods
your partner truly appreciates. Foods that
the special person doesn’t get to have often
due to price or availability would be the
recommended dishes. Also, foods with fancy
names such as Spaghetti Carbonara tend
to excite. With that being said, some dishes
I’d recommend for a romantic date are: Pan
Roasted Veal Chops with Cabernet Sauce,
Chocolate Soufflé with Rum and Raisin Ice
Cream and Raspberry Sorbet with Prosecco.
Edible
Antidote
By Chevanese Tulloch
It’s sweet, yummy, dark
brown perfection. ‘Tis often
the base for many of our
favourite treats, an esteemed
aphrodisiac and a grossly
underestimated drug.
Have you guessed it? It’s
chocolate. Dark chocolate
to be specific.
Cocoa butter, vanilla
and sugar sound pretty
bland on their
own but
when
some
genius
combined
the three
the world
got a hold
of its intense
flavour and chocolate
has since been in popular demand.
If you had not known, have been abstaining
or you just simply aren’t a fan; chocolate in moderation is
splendid nutrition.
Not only is it extremely tasty; dark chocolate may improve your blood flow and
brain function, lower your risk of cardiovascular disease, improve your mood
and lower cholesterol. This isn’t sounding like such an awful dietary addition
now, is it? Did I already mention that it’s an aphrodisiac? Dark chocolate is
perfect for a night of romance and a jolt of happiness.
You deserve a bar…
Valentines Day
Do’s & Don’ts
By
Jamilia Samuels
Valentines Day! The day of love for couples everywhere and a day of dread for
most single folk (we feel you). Going all out is something that pretty much
expected but there’s always a couple hits and misses that leave you wondering
‘You really thought that would work?’. To help prepare you for this upcoming
season of love, here are some Dos and Don’ts!
DO - Something heartfelt. Nothing’s wrong with roses, stuffed animals and cheesy dates,
but nothing screams that you’ve listened than a well thought out date/gift. Get something
that’s meaningful to your partner/date, Its a rewarding experience! Trust us!
DO - Turn off all electronics. It’s the day of love! Get off your phone
and interact with your date/partner. While we live in this modern
age of social media, Valentines Day is not the day for interruptions.
Get off your Snapchat and Instagram and live in the moment with
your partner. If you have to use your cell, keep it to a
minimum.
DO - Dress to impress. Most if not all of us
appreciate a pretty package, so why not take
this opportunity to go the extra mile on your
appearance? Girls, take out that bomb dress
you’ve been waiting for a special
occasion to wear and men,
invest in a good button down
shirt and ensure you smell
good. You’d be surprised at
how much that can help
things along
DO - Be
CONFIDENT!
Confidence
is the most
important
element.
Without
The Food Herald 14

it all your well thought out plans are sure to fail.
Keep your cool and relax.
DON’T - Play hero. Valentines Day is all about
sensuality and budget. If you haven;t budgeted
accordingly, don’t try to give your significant
other or date the Usher Raymond-Trey Songz
seduction special. Plan ahead and plan smart.
We’d hate to see you and your date rolling up
your sleeves to have a romantic night of dish
washing duty.
DON’T - Expect that your significant other takes
the day of love as seriously as you do. Valentines
Day just isn’t that serious for some of us, and
nobody wants to be going all out while the other
person isn’t all that into the festivities. Scope
out your partners approach to Valentines Day and
make your plans accordingly.
DON’T - Take today too seriously. Honestly, its
just another day. Not everything you do today
has to be centered around being with someone.
Go enjoy yourself, treat yourself to bacon roses.
Seriously! Whatever floats your boat, go for it!
DON’T - Expect the day to be all about you.
This tip is mainly for the ladies. As we all know,
Valentines Day is really all about us and our men
pulling out all the stops to prove how much he
cares about you. But let’s switch it up this year
ladies! Plan an elaborate day of pampering for
your man and let him have his shine!
OPA GREEK RESTAURANT &
LOUNGE
The Food Herald 16

Well I’m back ladies and gents! Putting
my liver on the line and sending
shivers down my spine. I’ve visited
many interesting bars and lounges,
but to be honest I needed a “different”
experience. So this time around Maad Mixes
went Greek!
I visited Opa! Greek Restaurant and Lounge,
a place I’ve been previously visited to enjoy a
lovely meal. However, on this visit I decided
to challenge Alex and his bar! I was presented
with four drinks, the ‘Greek BJ’, the ‘Olympic
Mojito’, ‘Opa! Blue Martini’ and ‘Greek Island
Hopper’. Okay let me address the elephant in
the room! Yes, a “Greek BJ”. It’s a beautifully
presented shot which included Blue Curacao
and Sangster’s Rum Cream. My lovely
colleague Robyn Leveridge tried this shot on
my behalf and she was left speechless; it’s
incredibly smooth, and addictive. Up next
was the ‘Olympic Mojito’. Metaxa Brandy,
Watermelon Sour and Sprite are a perfect
for each other. It was smooth and had a
brilliant balance of flavour; this is definitely
a creeper ladies and gents. Please note that
if you’re not much of a drinker, feel free to
request a Moscato Mojito. It’s crispier, quite
refreshing and lighter for the non-drinkers
out there. Opa! Blue Martini is my favourite!
Hands down! Game over! People please
understand that the brilliant minds at Opa
have redesigned the martini. It’s one thing for
a drink to look beautiful, but taste beautiful
too? Insane! Finally, I had the ‘Greek Island
Hopper’. It has a similar vibe when compared
to a traditional mudslide, but of course Opa
had to find a way to switch things up. The
use of the Ouzo liquor just made sense; as
it smoothly took me on a journey into the
unknown.
Opa! Greek Restaurant and Lounge did
it again. A massive big up goes out to my
bartender Marlon, the guy’s a genius. Oh and
before I forget! Alex and his brilliant team has
a surprise for Jamaica, March 10th is going to
be a day to remember.
