substitution comes to an end.
The door of hope and mercy by which men had
for 1800 years found access to God was closed at
the end of the 2300 days, but another door was
opened. This door led into the very presence of the
glory of God and the grand final blotting out of sin
in the most holy place. Sin cannot abide in His
presence, which is a consuming fire. The High
Priest opened this door and "no man can shut it."
But the Jews who refused to enter the first door at
His ascension were left in total darkness. "That
door by which men had formerly found access to
God, was no longer open." The Jews refused to
seek Him in the only way whereby He could be
found.
As Adventists approach the splendor of the
most holy place they move toward a crisis. If we
cling to the typical nature of Evangelical orthodoxy
and are content with the routine substitutionary
gospel of forensic, legal justification, we too will
find ourselves rejecting the final work of the High
