The Remnant Must Grow Up<br />

There is a glorious inheritance awaiting God's<br />

people. But <strong>the</strong>y cannot receive it until <strong>the</strong>y sense<br />

its splendor, understand its value, and appreciate<br />

what is involved. The fa<strong>the</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> prodigal was<br />

not reckless enough to bestow his entire estate into<br />

<strong>the</strong> hands of his wayward son until his son grew<br />

up. The young man did not recognize his<br />

Laodicean blindness until his sense of values was<br />

drastically altered. It was in <strong>the</strong> pigsty that <strong>the</strong> son<br />

received his sight. He came to abhor <strong>the</strong> husks of<br />

his own egocentric values and this maturity<br />

brought to <strong>the</strong> surface his own need. He saw his<br />

nakedness and his hunger was a reflection of his<br />

famished soul. "Blessed are <strong>the</strong>y which do hunger<br />

and thirst after righteousness: for <strong>the</strong>y shall be<br />

filled" (Mat<strong>the</strong>w 5:6).<br />

Israel, like <strong>the</strong> prodigal, viewed <strong>the</strong> gifts of<br />

God through <strong>the</strong> blindness of her own selfish<br />
