(4) Estimates of when established formal MOS training will be<br />

revised to include new subject matter pertinent to proposed ASI Y1<br />

for qualification of all personnel to be newly or originally trained in<br />

established MOS.<br />

(5) Estimated date by which all personnel classified in the established<br />

MOS will have been trained in the duties, skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge<br />

associated with proposed ASI Y1, either through transition<br />

type training or MOS training as in (4) above.<br />

(6) Listing of type TOE/MTOE or TDA in which the positions<br />

will be applied.<br />

b. The life span of the ASI Y1 will be for 3 years from the<br />

effective date of authorization. Deletion will be automatic unless the<br />

personnel proponent training activity can justify retention.<br />

12–5. MOS authorized use of Y2 Transition<br />

The ASI Y2 is used for transitory identification of personnel who<br />

r e q u i r e t r a n s i t i o n - t y p e t r a i n i n g b e c a u s e o f s p e c i a l t y c o n v e r s i o n .<br />

Training must be of sufficient criticality to require establishment of<br />

service school transition or comparable formal training in an organized<br />

training activity. The ASI Y2 will not be used in TOE or TDA<br />

(see table 12-4).<br />

a. The use of Y2 must be in accordance with Headquarters,<br />

Department of the <strong>Army</strong> authority contained in section IV—MOS<br />

Authorized Use of ASI Y2—Transition. Requests for additional<br />

authorized uses will be submitted throughappropriate channels to<br />

Street, Alex<strong>and</strong>ria, VA 22332-0406. The request will include:<br />

(1) Duties involved (details of what, how, when <strong>and</strong> why) <strong>and</strong><br />

how they differ from duties performed in current MOS.<br />

( 2 ) M i n i m u m s k i l l s a n d k n o w l e d g e r e q u i r e d ( d e t a i l s o f t e c h -<br />

niques, abilities, degree of proficiency, or other characteristics) <strong>and</strong><br />

how they are unique when compared with skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge<br />

required in current MOS.<br />

(3) Additional training involved (details of type, prerequisites,<br />

length <strong>and</strong> subject matter).<br />

(4) Estimates of when formal MOS training will be established to<br />

qualify all soldiers that hold ASI Y2.<br />

b. Qualifications. Awarded to soldiers upon completion of assignment-oriented<br />

training for performing training development.<br />

4 Non-Career Recruiter USARRS<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions <strong>and</strong> Active Component<br />

soldiers associated with recruiting duty other than career<br />

recruiters, MOS 79R.<br />

b. Qualifications. Must graduate from the <strong>Army</strong> Recruiter Course<br />

taught at the Recruiting <strong>and</strong> Retention School, Ft Jackson, SC.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with any Active Component MOS except<br />

79R.<br />

<strong>and</strong> Deployment Planning Course (MDPC) at the Joint Strategic<br />

Deployment Training Center (JSDTC), U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Transportation<br />

School, Ft Eustis, VA.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with any MOS in grades SSG through SGM.<br />

D Civil Affairs Operations USAJFKSWCS<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions that require the assignment<br />

of soliders qualified to assist in planning, directing, <strong>and</strong> coordinating<br />

activities pertaining to one or more of the following Civil Affairs<br />

functional specialties: Civil Defense, Labor, Legal, Public Administration,<br />

Public Welfare, Civilian Supply, Economics <strong>and</strong> Commerce,<br />

Food <strong>and</strong> Agriculture, Property Control, Public Communications,<br />

Transportation, Public Works <strong>and</strong> Utilities, Arts/Monuments <strong>and</strong> Archives,<br />

Civil Information, Cultural Affairs, <strong>and</strong> Dislocated Civilians.<br />

b. Qualifications. Must successfully complete the two week Civil Affairs<br />

Operations Course at JFK Special Warfare Center <strong>and</strong> School.<br />

c. Restrictions. No restriction for Active Component. Reserve Component<br />

attainment restricted to soldiers assigned to USAR Civil Affairs<br />

Troop Program Units in any CMF 51 MOS <strong>and</strong> MOSs 54B, 71G, 76J,<br />

91B, 91E, 91S, 91T, 95B, <strong>and</strong> 96B.<br />

E <strong>Military</strong> Mountaineer USAIS<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions that require soldiers<br />

who are qualified in the specialized skills <strong>and</strong> tactical requirements of<br />

a small unit operating in mountainous terrain, under all climatic conditions,<br />

day <strong>and</strong> night.<br />

b. Qualifications. Must successfully complete both the winter <strong>and</strong><br />

summer phases of the <strong>Military</strong> mountaineering courses taught at the<br />

U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Northern Warfare Training Center or the <strong>Army</strong> National<br />

Guard Mountain Warfare School (Vermont).<br />

c. Restrictions. None.<br />

F Flying Status USAAVNC<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions that require soldiers<br />

to perform frequent <strong>and</strong> repetitive aerial flight, to include CMF 67 doorgunner<br />

positions.<br />

b. Qualifications. Must volunteer for flight duty <strong>and</strong> complete qualifying<br />

physical examination for flight status as prescribed in AR 40-501.<br />

c. Restrictions. Designated positions will not exceed flight authorizations<br />

per AR 600-106.<br />

G Ranger USAIS<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions requiring assignment<br />

of soldiers who are Ranger qualified.<br />

b. Qualifications. Must successfully complete the appropriate training<br />

at the Infantry School <strong>and</strong> meet physical qualifications for Ranger<br />

training <strong>and</strong> assignment outlined in AR 40-501.<br />

c. Restrictions. None.<br />

H Instructor TRADOC<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions that require soldiers<br />

qualified to be full-time formal instructors in a military subject at any<br />

<strong>Army</strong> service school or other organized training activity. Instructor <strong>and</strong><br />

advisor positions will be classified in any appropriate MOS code consistent<br />

with the st<strong>and</strong>ards of grade provided in paragraph 3-2.<br />

b. Qualifications. Must successfully complete an instructor training<br />

course (ITC).<br />

c. Restrictions. SQI H will not be used to classify positions limited to<br />

instructor aides, such as projection machine operators, demonstrators,<br />

or test proctors.<br />

I Installer USASIGC<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions that require assignment<br />

of soldiers qualified to perform installation <strong>and</strong> or de-installation<br />

of electronic equipment (normally fixed station) systems or subsystems<br />

on a full-time basis.
