functions associated with training development positions include<br />

implementing a Systems Approach to Training, managing the training<br />

development effort, <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ardizing training programs <strong>and</strong> products.<br />

b. Qualifications. Officers must have satisfactorily completed an<br />

approved course in functional training development, or worked in a<br />

Systems Approach to Training for a minimum of 1 year.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use by Comm<strong>and</strong>ants of the <strong>Army</strong> service schools,<br />

TRADOC <strong>and</strong> other training facilities established within the MACOMs.<br />

Title: Hospital Ministries<br />

Proponent: CCH<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require<br />

advanced pastoral skills in ministry in a hospital setting.<br />

b. Qualifications. Requires completion of at least one advanced unit or<br />

post-graduate level clinical pastoral training equivalent in a hospital<br />

setting <strong>and</strong> completion of 1 year satisfactory service in an identified<br />

position.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with AOC 56A only. Application must be made<br />

through the supervisory chaplain by the end of the second year of the<br />

utilization or upon reassignment if less than 2 years.<br />

Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require<br />

advanced knowledge <strong>and</strong> competence in specialized areas of clinical<br />

nursing practice.<br />

b. Qualifications. Requires a master’s degree in nursing with clinical<br />

specification; <strong>and</strong> who are qualified to provide direct <strong>and</strong> indirect nursing<br />

care, contribute to <strong>and</strong> carry out research, teach staff, patients, <strong>and</strong><br />

families <strong>and</strong> act as consultants in clinical nursing practice.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps AOCs 66C <strong>and</strong> 66H<br />

only.<br />

Code: 8A<br />

Title: Critical Care Nursing<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require special<br />

qualifications in critical care nursing practice.<br />

b. Qualifications. <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps officers who have successfully<br />

completed one of the following:<br />

(1) AMEDD Center & School Critical Care Nursing Course.<br />

(2) AMEDD Center & School approved Walter Reed <strong>Army</strong> Medical<br />

Center Critical Care Nursing Course.<br />

(3) CCRN Certification sponsored by the Americal Association of Critical<br />

Care Nurses.<br />

(4) Completion of a 2 week, minimum 80 hours critical care nursing<br />

(CNN) course per AN CCN curriculum guidelines, in conjunction with an<br />

additional 320 hours in CCN clinical practice over an 18 month period,<br />

<strong>and</strong> verification of CCN competency.<br />

(5) Completion of 1500 hours in critical care nursing clinical practice over<br />

a consecutive 3 year time period, completion of a critical care nursing<br />

course per the <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps critical care nursing curriculum<br />

guidelines, <strong>and</strong> verification of CCN competency.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps AOC 66H only.<br />

Code: 8D<br />

Title: Midwifery<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require nurses<br />

qualified to practice midwifery.<br />

b. Qualifications. Requires graduation from an accredited midwifery<br />

course <strong>and</strong> current certification in midwifery by the American College of<br />

Nurse Midwives.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps AOC 66G only.<br />

Title: Nurse practitioner<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require nurse<br />

practitioners.<br />

b. Qualifications. Requires completion of a recognized course in which<br />

the curriculum includes experience in working interdependently with<br />

physicians in apprising the health status of patients through physical<br />

examination <strong>and</strong> selected screening tests; recognizing signs <strong>and</strong><br />

symptoms indicating alterations in the physiological process which<br />

require the attention of the physician <strong>and</strong> providing primary health<br />

maintenance <strong>and</strong> educational services for patients with stabilized<br />

chronic diseases, <strong>and</strong> 6 months experience as a nurse practitioner/<br />

clinical nurse specialist. Or, have a minimum of 1 year experience in this<br />

skill <strong>and</strong> subsequently <strong>and</strong> satisfactorily complete a program of study<br />

through a combination of self–study, on-the-job training, <strong>and</strong>/or short<br />

courses providing the study has included all aspects of the courses<br />

described above, <strong>and</strong> providing a demonstrated expertise exists in the<br />

practice of nursing in the role. Or, have 1 year experience in the above,<br />

providing there is a demonstrated expertise in the practice of nursing in<br />

the extended role.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps AOC 66D, 66G <strong>and</strong><br />

66H only.<br />

Title: Community Health Nursing<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require nurses<br />

qualified to provide family centered nursing services to individuals,<br />

families <strong>and</strong> groups in the community.<br />

b. Qualifications. Requires the successful completion of the Principles<br />

of <strong>Military</strong> Preventive Medicine Course at the AMEDD Center <strong>and</strong><br />

School or have 1 year experience in public health nursing.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps AOC 66H only.<br />

Title: OB/GYN Nursing<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require nurses<br />

qualified to perform professional nursing care of a specialized nature for<br />

the obstetrical <strong>and</strong>/or gynecologic patients <strong>and</strong> her family.<br />

b. Qualifications. Requires the successful completion of the OB/GYN<br />

Nursing Course at Tripler <strong>Army</strong> medical Center or 1 year developmental<br />

experience in all aspects of maternal, newborn, <strong>and</strong> gynecologic<br />

nursing.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps AOC 66H only.<br />

Title: Clinical Nutrition Specialist<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions requiring qualification<br />

to the nutritional status of patients <strong>and</strong> make appropriate<br />

recommendations for their nutritional care.<br />

b. Qualifications. Must have an advanced degree in nutrition or related<br />

areas <strong>and</strong> have completed an approved course of nutritional<br />

assessment skills. A minimum of 4 years of experience in increasingly<br />

responsible positions in clinical dietetics practice is required. Must be<br />

CPT or above.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with Hospital Dietition AOC 65C only. The<br />

Surgeon General will determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis.<br />

Title: Infection Control<br />

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions which require special<br />

qualifications in control of hospital infections.<br />

b. Qualifications. Requires the following general qualifications:<br />

extensive clinical nursing experience; <strong>and</strong> preparation in bacteriology<br />

<strong>and</strong> epidemiology. In addition, must have had a formal course of<br />

instruction in the control of hospital infections.<br />

c. Restrictions. For use with <strong>Army</strong> Nurse Corps AOC 66E, 66H, <strong>and</strong><br />

66N only.<br />
