<strong>and</strong> the Broadcast Managers Officer Course taught by DINFOS.<br />

(b) Baccalaureate or higher degree with a major in Electronic<br />

Journalism, Broadcast, Instructional Technology, Radio/Television,<br />

or Motion Picture Production.<br />

(c) Two or more years prior service (cumulative) as a full-time<br />

broadcast officer in the <strong>Army</strong> or another service.<br />

3–31. USMA Specialized Faculty (47) (Proponent: United<br />

States <strong>Military</strong> Academy)<br />

a. Functional area description. Administers the academic program<br />

of the United States <strong>Military</strong> Academy (USMA). Provides<br />

military <strong>and</strong> academic leadership to USMA’s academic departments<br />

which are composed of stablized military faculty (Academy Professors,<br />

<strong>Army</strong> officers on non-stablized (rotating) assignment to USMA<br />

<strong>and</strong> civilian faculty hired in accordance with Title 10 United States<br />

Code. Contributes to formulation of USMA’s curriculum, methods<br />

of instruction, <strong>and</strong> academic st<strong>and</strong>ards required for graduation. Establishes<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards within academic departments for classroom instruction,<br />

military professionalism, <strong>and</strong> academic accomplishment.<br />

Teaches cadets within areas of academic expertise. Provides continuity<br />

to the academic program, while also providing a source of<br />

experience <strong>and</strong> academic depth to the rotating <strong>and</strong> civilian faculty.<br />

Participates in USMA governance by serving on bodies such as the<br />

Academic Board <strong>and</strong> Installation Planning Board, <strong>and</strong> Admissions<br />

C o m m i t t e e , e t c . S e l e c t s o f f i c e r s t o b e s p o n s o r e d f o r g r a d u a t e<br />

schooling prior to a teaching assignment at USMA. Maintains academic<br />

currency by research, writing, <strong>and</strong> attendance at scholarly<br />

conferences. Maintains military professional currency by numerous<br />

activities including operational TDYs with <strong>Army</strong> troop units. Contributes<br />

to cadet development by support of a wide variety of athletic<br />

<strong>and</strong> extracurricular activities at USMA. Contributes to officer<br />

development by counseling <strong>and</strong> mentoring.<br />

b. Functional area qualifications. DA Pam 600-3 lists qualifications<br />

for entry <strong>and</strong> professional development in this functional area.<br />

c. USMA Professor (47A).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Serves as the senior leadership of the<br />

academic organization of USMA. Supervises directly the academy<br />

professors <strong>and</strong> the senior rotating faculty <strong>and</strong> civilian professors.<br />

Performs all facets of duty described in the general paragraph a<br />

above.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Outst<strong>and</strong>ing record of achievement <strong>and</strong><br />

high potential for further growth <strong>and</strong> development within the field<br />

of scholarship; extensive experience <strong>and</strong> sustained exemplary performance<br />

with the field <strong>Army</strong>, typically reflected by basic branch or<br />

single-track functional area qualification as a field grade officer;<br />

successful completion of Comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Staff College <strong>and</strong> aspiring<br />

to complete senior srevice college; completion of an earned Ph.D in<br />

an appropriate field. Professors, USMA are normally selected from<br />

the ranks of serving Academy Professors.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. The grade of USMA, Professor<br />

is COL except in the case of a junior Deputy Department Head who<br />

may be a LTC.<br />

(4) Position coding. FA 47 will only be used in the first position<br />

in authorization documents.<br />

d. USMA, Professor of English (47C).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Serves as the link between the senior<br />

academic leadership <strong>and</strong> the rotating <strong>and</strong> civilian faculty within the<br />

Department of English, providing direct supervision <strong>and</strong> leadership<br />

of the junior faculty. Performs all facets of duty described in paragraph<br />

a above.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Extensive experience <strong>and</strong> sustained exemplary<br />

performance with the field <strong>Army</strong>, typically reflected by<br />

basic branch or single-track functional area qualification as a field<br />

grade officer; successful completion of Comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Staff College<br />

<strong>and</strong> aspiring to complete senior service college; completion of an<br />

earned PhD in English, Philosophy, or a related discipline; at least 2<br />

years teaching experience at the undergraduate level, or other comparable<br />

professional experience.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. Positions coded LTC <strong>and</strong> above.<br />

(4) Position coding. FA 47 will only be used in the first position<br />

in authorization documents.<br />

(5) Unique duty positions. Academy Professor.<br />

e. USMA, Professor of Electrical Engineering <strong>and</strong> Computer Science<br />

(47D)<br />

(1) Description of duties. Serves as the link between the senior<br />

academic leadership <strong>and</strong> the rotating <strong>and</strong> civilian faculty within the<br />

Department of Electrical Engineering <strong>and</strong> Computer Sciences, providing<br />

direct supervision <strong>and</strong> leadership of the junior faculty. Performs<br />

all facets of duty described in paragraph a above.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Extensive experience <strong>and</strong> sustained exemplary<br />

performance with the field <strong>Army</strong>, typically reflected by<br />

bacis branch or single-track functional area qualification as a field<br />

grade officer; successful completio of Comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Staff College<br />

<strong>and</strong> aspiring to complete senior staff college; completion of an<br />

earned PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial<br />

Intelligence, Photonics, or a related discipline; at least 2 years teachi<br />

n g e x p e r i e n c e a t t h e u n d e r g r a d u a t e l e v e l , o r o t h e r c o m p a r a b l e<br />

professional experience.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. Positions coded LTC <strong>and</strong> above.<br />

(4) Position coding. FA 47 will only be used in the first position<br />

in authorization documents.<br />

(5) Unique duty positions. Academy Professor.<br />

f. USMA, Professor of Systems Engineering (47F).<br />

<strong>and</strong> leadership of the junior faculty. Performs all facets of duty<br />

described in paragraph a above.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Extensive experience <strong>and</strong> sustained exemplary<br />

performance with the field <strong>Army</strong>, typically reflected by<br />

basic branch or single-track functional area qualification as a field<br />

grade officer; successful completion Comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Staff College<br />

<strong>and</strong> aspiring to complete senior staff college; completion of an<br />

earned Ph.D in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Operations<br />

Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Business<br />

Administration, or a related discipline; at least 2 years teaching<br />

experience at the undergraduate level, or other comparable professional<br />

experience.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. Positions coded LTC <strong>and</strong> above.<br />

(4) Positions coding. FA 47 will only be used in the first position<br />

in authorization documents.<br />

g. USMA, Professor of Foreign Languages (47G).<br />

Department of Foreign Languages, providing direct supervision <strong>and</strong><br />

leadership of the junior faculty. Performs all facets of duty described<br />

in paragraph a above.<br />
