3–24. Ordnance (91) (Proponent: Chief of Ordnance)<br />

a. Branch description. Plans <strong>and</strong> directs the activities of <strong>Army</strong><br />

units <strong>and</strong> organizations engaged in one or more of the following<br />

activities:<br />

(1) Materiel management <strong>and</strong> maintenance of armament, tank<br />

<strong>and</strong> ground mobility equipment, wheeled <strong>and</strong> general purpose vehicles,<br />

ground support materiel, <strong>and</strong> other mechanical equipment <strong>and</strong><br />

associated nonmechanical equipment except for medical, aerial delivery,<br />

<strong>and</strong> cryptographic materiel.<br />

(2) Materiel management <strong>and</strong> maintenance of missile/electronic<br />

systems materiel including missile rounds <strong>and</strong> associated guidance<br />

launching, h<strong>and</strong>ling <strong>and</strong> test equipment; comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> control systems;<br />

directed energy systems; <strong>and</strong> logistics space systems; <strong>and</strong> test<br />

measurement, <strong>and</strong> diagnostic equipment (TMDE).<br />

(3) Materiel management <strong>and</strong> maintenance of conventional <strong>and</strong><br />

nuclear munitions <strong>and</strong> warheads, <strong>and</strong> associated maintenance, test<br />

<strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>ling equipment.<br />

(4) Detection, identification, rendering safe, recovery, or destruction<br />

of hazardous U.S. <strong>and</strong> foreign munitions. Advises the comm<strong>and</strong>er<br />

on logistical matters <strong>and</strong> the unit capability to perform its<br />

mission. Performs in a variety of positions related to materiel management<br />

involving activities such as organizational, direct, <strong>and</strong> gene<br />

r a l s u p p o r t m a i n t e n a n c e , p r o d u c t i o n c o n t r o l , c a l i b r a t i o n , r e p a i r<br />

parts supply, quality assurance/quality control, (QA/QC), technical<br />

assistance, coordination, training <strong>and</strong> research <strong>and</strong> development. Responsible<br />

for logistical training in coordination with the S3 or G3.<br />

Maintains necessary liaison concerning logistical activities.<br />

b. Branch qualifications. DA Pam 600-3 lists qualifications for<br />

entry <strong>and</strong> professional development in this branch.<br />

c. Ordnance, General (91A).<br />

(1) Description of duties. This is a position code only. An officer<br />

who fills this position will serve as a comm<strong>and</strong>er or staff officer of<br />

an organization with responsibility for two or more ordnance-related<br />

functions. Duties <strong>and</strong> responsibilities deal with general ordnancerelated<br />

activities rather than more specific functions which pertain to<br />

only one Ordnance Area of Concentration.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. None.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. For positions coded MAJ <strong>and</strong><br />

above.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions.<br />

(a) Assistant Chief of Staff, Maintenance.<br />

(b) Comm<strong>and</strong>er, Multifunctional Support Unit.<br />

(c) Corps Support Comm<strong>and</strong> Materiel Management Officer.<br />

(d) Ordnance Staff Officer, Logistics Center.<br />

d. Maintenance Management (91B).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Comm<strong>and</strong>s or serves as a staff officer<br />

or manager in a unit, activity, or organization which provides maintenance<br />

or logistical support for all types of <strong>Army</strong> materiel. As a<br />

staff officer, formulates policy, <strong>and</strong> directs <strong>and</strong> coordinates staff<br />

functions related to maintenance <strong>and</strong> logistics-associated activities<br />

of the comm<strong>and</strong>. Serves in multifunctional positions at all levels of<br />

maintenance primarily engaged in direct support/general support<br />

maintenance of tanks, TMDE, electronic equipment, vehicles, air<br />

defense artillery weapons systems, l<strong>and</strong> combat support systems <strong>and</strong><br />

associated equipment.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have completed the Ordnance<br />

Maintenance Management Officer Basic Course, Advanced Course<br />

with Automotive Track, or technical qualification course or have<br />

waiver from the Comm<strong>and</strong>ant, U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Ordnance Center <strong>and</strong><br />

School.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. Company Comm<strong>and</strong>er positions<br />

in Special Weapons Ordnance Missile Materiel Company, DS/GS<br />

will be graded MAJ.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions.<br />

(a) Platoon Leader.<br />

(b) Maintenance Officer.<br />

(c) Materiel Management Officer.<br />

(d) Maintenance Management Officer.<br />

(e) Materiel Officer.<br />

(f) Operations Officer.<br />

(g) Director of Maintenance.<br />

e. Munitions Materiel Management (91D).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Comm<strong>and</strong>s or serves as a staff officer<br />

of units or activities engaged in direct <strong>and</strong> general support maintenance<br />

of light air defense missile/weapon systems <strong>and</strong> supporting<br />

radars; air defense <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> combat missile systems, <strong>and</strong> associated<br />

guidance launch h<strong>and</strong>ling, <strong>and</strong> test equipment; electronic comm<strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> control systems, directed energy systems; <strong>and</strong> logistics space<br />

systems. Serves in comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> staff positions involving logistical<br />

aspects of missile/electronics systems materiel.<br />

(2) Special qualification. Must have completed the Missile Materiel<br />

Officer Basic Course, Advanced Course with Missile Track or<br />

technical qualification course or have a waiver from the Comm<strong>and</strong><br />

a n t , U . S . A r m y O r d n a n c e , M i s s i l e a n d M u n i t i o n s C e n t e r a n d<br />

School, Redstone Arsenal, AL.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. Company Comm<strong>and</strong>er positions<br />

in Special Weapon’s Ordnance Company, Ammunition, DS/GS <strong>and</strong><br />

Ordnance Company, Ammunition, DS/GS will be graded MAJ.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions.<br />

(a) Missile Support Company/Detachment Comm<strong>and</strong>er.<br />

(b) Missile Maintenance Officer.<br />

(c) Electronic Maintenance Officer.<br />

f. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (91E).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Comm<strong>and</strong>s or serves as a staff officer<br />

of units or activities responsible for explosive ordnance disposal<br />

(EOD) operations or control. EOD functions include the locating,<br />

rendering safe, removing <strong>and</strong> subsequent disposing <strong>and</strong> salvaging of<br />

unexploded conventional <strong>and</strong> special explosive ordnance (nuclear,<br />

biological <strong>and</strong> chemical munitions).<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have completed Ammunition Officer<br />

Basic, Advanced with Munitions Track, <strong>and</strong>/or technical qualif<br />

3–25. Quartermaster Corps (92) (Proponent: Office of the<br />

Quartermaster General)<br />

a. Branch description. Plans <strong>and</strong> directs the activities of <strong>Army</strong><br />

units <strong>and</strong> organizations engaged in the acquisition, receipt, storage,<br />

preservation, <strong>and</strong> issue of equipment, repair parts, fortification/construction<br />

materiel, subsistence, petroleum products, water, <strong>and</strong> other<br />

general supplies (excluding ammunition, medical, <strong>and</strong> cryptographic<br />

materiel). Responsible for storage, maintenance, distribution, <strong>and</strong><br />

disposal of air items, parachute packing, <strong>and</strong> preparation of cargo<br />

for aerial delivery. Coordinates <strong>and</strong> directs the collection of salvage,<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or ab<strong>and</strong>oned property, unserviceable supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment<br />

<strong>and</strong> the disposition of such items through proper channels. Comm<strong>and</strong>s<br />

or directs units responsible for providing service support in<br />

the areas of laundry <strong>and</strong> shower, mortuary affairs, aerial delivery,<br />

<strong>Army</strong> Exchange operations, <strong>and</strong> the renovation of clothing <strong>and</strong> textiles.<br />

Manages subsistence, to include procurement, storage, issue,<br />

sales, accountability, preparation of subsistence supplies, <strong>and</strong> operation<br />

of commissary sales stores. Responsible for petroleum operat<br />
