ae. General Surgeon (61J).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Examines, diagnoses, <strong>and</strong> treats or prescribes<br />

course of treatment <strong>and</strong> surgery for patients having injuries,<br />

or disorders with surgical conditions, <strong>and</strong> performs required surgery.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have had adequate training or professional experience in this<br />

specialty in order to meet minimum requirements established by<br />

DA.<br />

(b) Have Doctor of Medicine Degree or a Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from a school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions.<br />

(a) In Treatment Platoon <strong>and</strong> Surgical Squad, Hq & Co A of<br />

Medical Battalion, Air Assault Division (MAJ).<br />

(b) In Forward Surgical Team, one position will be graded LTC.<br />

Other General Surgeon positions will be graded MAJ.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions. None.<br />

af. Thoracic Surgeon (61K).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Examines, diagnoses <strong>and</strong> treats or prescribes<br />

course of treatment <strong>and</strong> surgery for patients having surgical<br />

diseases or injuries of the thorax <strong>and</strong> vascular system <strong>and</strong> performs<br />

required surgery.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have had adequate training or professional experience in this<br />

specialized field of surgery sufficient to meet minimum requirements<br />

established by DA.<br />

(b) Have a Doctor of Medicine Degree or a Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree for a school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. None.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions. None.<br />

ag. Plastic Surgeon (61L).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Examines, diagnoses, <strong>and</strong> treats or prescribes<br />

course of treatment <strong>and</strong> surgery for patients having conditions<br />

requiring plastic surgery.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have had adequate training or professional experience in this<br />

specialized field of surgery sufficient to meet minimum requirements<br />

established by DA.<br />

(b) Have a Doctor of Medicine Degree or a Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from a school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. None.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions. None.<br />

ah. Orthopedic Surgeon (61M).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Examines, diagnoses <strong>and</strong> treats or prescribes<br />

course of treatment <strong>and</strong> surgery for patients having disord<br />

e r s , m a l f o r m a t i o n s , d i s e a s e s , i n j u r i e s , o f t h e m u s c u l o - s k e l e t a l<br />

system, performing surgical operations as indicated.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have had adequate training or professional experience in this<br />

specialized field of surgery sufficient to meet minimum requirements<br />

established by DA.<br />

(b) Have Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from a school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions.<br />

(a) In Surgical Squad, Hq & Co A of Medical Battalion, Air<br />

Assault Division (MAJ).<br />

(b) In Forward Surgical Team, positions will be graded MAJ.<br />

ai. Flight Surgeon (61N).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Provides aviation <strong>and</strong> general medical<br />

services for <strong>Army</strong> aviation personnel.<br />

(2) Special qualifications.<br />

(a) Must have specialty training in this field at a level that is<br />

recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(b) Be graduate of basic course in aviation medicine acceptable<br />

to DA. Must have doctor of medicine degree or Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from a school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions.<br />

(a) Treatment Squad, Hq & Co A of Medical Battalion, Air<br />

Assault Division <strong>and</strong> Med Co of a Forward Support Battalion (FSB)<br />

(CPT).<br />

(b) Treatment Platoon, FSB (MAJ).<br />

(4) Unique duty positions. None.<br />

aj. Physiatrist (61P).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Plans, establishes, <strong>and</strong> directs physical<br />

medicine program at medical installation.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have knowledge of regenerative processes of body, <strong>and</strong> be<br />

able to evaluate physical medicine techniques.<br />

(b) Have had appropriate training or professional practice in this<br />

specialty in accordance with minimum requirements established by<br />

DA.<br />

(c) Have Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from a school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. None.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions. None.<br />

ak. Therapeutic Radiologist (61Q).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Conducts <strong>and</strong> supervises the use of<br />

ionizing radiation in the treatment of patients with malignant disease<br />

<strong>and</strong> in certain nonmalignant conditions amenable to such therapy.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have had adequate training in therapeutic radiology in order<br />

to meet requirements established by DA.<br />

(b) Have Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from a school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. None.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions. None.<br />

al. Diagnostic Radiologist (61R).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Performs <strong>and</strong> interprets all diagnostic<br />

radiological <strong>and</strong> fluoroscopic procedures, including special vascular<br />

studies, on patients referred by other physicians.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have had training or professional practice in diagnostic radiology<br />

in order to meet requirements established by DA.<br />

(b) Have Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. None.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions. None.<br />

am. Pathologist (61U).<br />

(1) Description of duties. Directs <strong>and</strong> supervises medical laborat<br />

o r y a n d c o n d u c t s c l i n i c a l a n d a n a t o m i c a l p a t h o l o g i c a l<br />

examinations.<br />

(2) Special qualifications. Must have specialty training in this<br />

field at a level that is recognized by the OTSG.<br />

(a) Have had appropriate training <strong>and</strong> professional experience in<br />

this specialty in accordance with minimum requirements established<br />

by DA.<br />

(b) Have Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathy<br />

Degree from school acceptable to DA.<br />

(3) Special grading of positions. Laboratory Comm<strong>and</strong>er position<br />

in TAML will be graded COL. Other pathologist positions will be<br />

graded LTC.<br />

(4) Unique duty positions.<br />

(a) Pathologist.<br />

(b) Clinical pathologist.<br />

(c) Anatomical Pathologist.<br />
