10–277. 97G—Multidiscipline Counterintelligence
Operator/Analyst (MDCI Analyst), CMF 96
a. Major duties. The multidiscipline counterintelligence analyst
performs and supervises analysis of friendly vulnerabilities to human,
signals and imagery intelligence collection by Foreign Intelligence
Services (FIS) and recommends countermeasures. Performs
and supervises counter-signals intelligence data collection and analysis,
and signal security support in a tactical or strategic environm
e n t . S u p p o r t s s i m u l a t i v e e l e c t r o n i c d e c e p t i o n a n d d e c e p t i o n
operations with C-RISTA and OPSEC evaluations. Performs other
MDCI, C-RISTA, and OPSEC-related duties. Duties for MOS 97G
at each level of skill are:
(1) MOSC 97G1O. Maintains the friendly force, and FIS threat
MDCI data bases. Performs initial MDCI vulnerability assessment
based upon friendly use of the electromagnetic spectrum. Deploys,
installs, and operates counter-SIGINT collection systems in a fixed,
strategic, or tactical operation. Collects data and produces transcripts
a n d g r a p h i c r e p r e s e n t a t i o n s , i n c l u d i n g u n i n t e n t i o n a l e m a n a t i o n s ,
based upon friendly use of the electromagnetic spectrum.
(2) MOSC 97G2O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of
skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade soldiers in
accomplishment of their duties. Develops and manages the MDCI
database. Analyzes friendly vulnerabilities to the FIS collection efforts.
Prepares draft MDCI vulnerability assessments and recomm
e n d s c o u n t e r m e a s u r e o p t i o n s . S u p e r v i s e s c o u n t e r - S I G I N T
collection team. Supports simulative electronic deception and deception
operations with C-RISTA and OPSEC evaluations.
(3) MOSC 97G3O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of
skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade soldiers in
accomplishment of their duties. Performs MDCI analysis and related
duties. Writes, edits, publishes and disseminates MDCI products and
reports. Nominates targets for exploitation, neutralization, or destruction.
Supervises counter-SIGINT and deception related activities.
Supports OPSEC and C-RISTA efforts at all levels.
(4) MOSC 97G4O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of
skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade soldiers in
accomplishment of their duties. Supervises and performs MDCI
analysis and counter-SIGINT activities at all levels. Prepares the
M D C I e s t i m a t e . M a n a g e s t h e c o u n t e r m e a s u r e o p t i o n s e f f o r t f o r
communications, cryptographic and signal security related functions,
a n d r e c o m m e n d s c o u n t e r m e a s u r e o p t i o n s . T a s k s f r i e n d l y i n t e l l i -
gence collection resources to update the MDCI database. Coordinates
OPSEC, C-RISTA, and deception efforts.
(5) MOSC 97G5O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of
skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade soldiers in
accomplishment of their duties. Develops countermeasure policies,
p l a n s , d o c t r i n e , o p e r a t i n g p r o c e d u r e s , a n d p r o g r a m s . S u p e r v i s e s
countermeasure options effort. Coordinates collection and analysis
of Army emitters from the developmental to the operational testing
s t a g e s . S u p e r v i s e s M D C I a n a l y s i s , C - S I G I N T , O P S E C , a n d C -
RISTA activities at all echelons.
b. Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial award of
MOS. Mulitdiscipline counterintelligence operator/analyst must possess
the following qualifications:
(1) A physical demands rating of very heavy.
(2) A physical profile of 222121.
(3) Normal color vision.
(4) Minimum scores of 95 in aptitude area SC and 95 in aptitude
area ST.
(5) The soldier must meet TOP SECRET security clearance and
S e n s i t i v e C o m p a r t m e n t e d I n f o r m a t i o n ( S C ) a c c e s s e l i g i b i l i t y
requirements.
(6) A high school graduate or equivalent.
(7) Never been a member of the U.S. Peace Corps, except as
specified in AR 614-200, chapter 1.

(8) No information in Provost Marshal, intelligence, military personnel
records jacket, or medical records which would prevent the
granting of a security clearance under AR 380-67.
(9) No record of conviction by court-martial.
(10) No record of conviction by civil court for any offense other
than minor traffic violations.
(11) Pass hearing acuity test on audiometer wherein sound amplitude
must not exceed 15 decibels at frequencies 250, 500, 1000,
2000, and 4000 CPS (HZ).
(12) Have neither commercial nor vested interest in a country
within whose boundaries physical or mental coercion is known to be
a common practice against persons acting in the interest of the U.S..
This requirement applies to the soldier’s spouse as well.
(13) The soldier must be a U.S. citizen.
(a) Soldier and spouse must not have immediate family members
who reside in a country within whose boundaries physical or mental
coercion is known to be a common practice, either against—
(b) Persons accused of or acting in the interest of the U.S..
(c) The relatives of such persons to whom they may reasonably
be considered to be bound by ties of affection, kinship, or obligation.
Near relatives will also include uncles, aunts, grandparents,
father-in-law, mother-in-law, and relationships corresponding to any
of the above persons in loco parentis (AR 630-5, para 6-2b).
(14) Meet career management and development criteria contained
in AR 614-200.
(15) Complete mandatory formal training.
c. Additional skill identifiers.
(1) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.
(2) 2S—Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 and above).
(3) 4A—Reclassification Training.

2–278. 97L—Translator/Interpreter (Reserve Components),
CMF 96
a. Major duties. Prepares, edits and supervises translations and
conducts interpretations in English and foreign languages. The duties
at each skill level for MOS 97L are:
(1) MOSC 97L1O. Prepares translations of non-technical foreign
language material. Prepares non-technical translations into the foreign
language. Performs sight translations from a foreign language
into English.
(2) MOSC 97L2O. Performs translation and interpreter duties.
(3) MOSC 97L3O. Provides translation and interpretations for
complex, high-level proceedings.

functions and supervises language maintenance at the team and
platoon levels.

b. Physical demands rating and qualification for initial award of
M O S . T r a n s l a t o r / i n t e r p r e t e r m u s t p o s s e s s t h e f o l l o w i n g
qualifications:
(1) A physical rating of medium.
(2) A physical profile of 222221.
(3) Normal color vision.
(4) A qualifying score of 95 in aptitude are ST.
(5) A security clearance of SECRET.
(6) Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) comprehension
rating of at least L2-R2 in a foreign language.
(7) Must have a basic understanding of the geographic, social,
cultural, economic, and political conditions of the foreign country,
area or force of his/her language.
(8) Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Post secondary
language study or the equivalent such as extended residence or
exposure to the target language is desired.
