(12) Formal training (completion of MOS 96H course under the<br />

auspices of U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Intelligence Center m<strong>and</strong>atory.<br />

(13) Never been a member of the U.S. Peace Corps, except as<br />

specified in AR 614-200, chapter 1.<br />

(14) No information in military personnel, Provost Marshal, intelligence,<br />

or medical records which would prevent the granting of a<br />

security clearance under provisions of AR 604-5.<br />

(15) No record of conviction by court martial.<br />

(16) No record of conviction by a civil court for any offense<br />

other than minor traffic violations.<br />

10–272. 96R—Ground Surveillance Systems (GSS)<br />

Operator (GSS Operator), CMF 96<br />

a. Major duties. The ground surveillance systems operator supervises<br />

or operates ground surveillance systems engaged in intelligence<br />

<strong>and</strong> information gathering. Duties for MOS 96R at each skill<br />

level are:<br />

(1) MOSC 96R1O. Operates <strong>and</strong> performs operator maintenance<br />

on ground surveillance systems, organic communications equipment,<br />

light wheeled vehicles, <strong>and</strong> power sources. Assists in emplacement,<br />

camouflage, <strong>and</strong> recovery of ground surveillance systems <strong>and</strong> associated<br />

equipment. Detects, locates, <strong>and</strong> reports target data by interpreting<br />

ground surveillance system information.<br />

(2) MOSC 96R2O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level<br />

<strong>and</strong> provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Provides tactical <strong>and</strong><br />

technical guidance in team area of operations. Assists in planning<br />

surveillance missions using maps, aerial photographs, terrain studi<br />

e s , a n d i n t e l l i g e n c e r e p o r t s . P r e p a r e s o v e r l a y s a n d s u r v e i l l a n c e<br />

c a r d s . S u p e r v i s e s e m p l a c e m e n t o p e r a t i o n s a n d m a i n t e n a n c e o f<br />

ground surveillance systems <strong>and</strong> associated equipment.<br />

(3) MOSC 96R3O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level<br />

<strong>and</strong> provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Provides tactical <strong>and</strong><br />

technical guidance in squad area of operations. Integrates other unit<br />

collection assets with ground surveillance systems. Recommends<br />

methods of employment. Selects potential emplacement sites using<br />

maps, aerial photographs, terrain studies, <strong>and</strong> intelligence reports.<br />

Prepares overlays <strong>and</strong> situation maps. Notifies supported comm<strong>and</strong><br />

of team locations. Maintains operational records.<br />

(4) MOSC 96R4O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level<br />

<strong>and</strong> provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Provides tactical <strong>and</strong><br />

technical guidance in platoon area of operations. Plans, recommends,<br />

<strong>and</strong> determines employment <strong>and</strong> operational techniques. Sup<br />

e r v i s e s r e q u i s i t i o n o f r e p l a c e m e n t p a r t s . A p p l i e s i n t e l l i g e n c e<br />

collection <strong>and</strong> surveillance planning process to operations. Conducts<br />

intelligence surveillance <strong>and</strong> collection training.<br />

(5) MOSC 96R5O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level<br />

<strong>and</strong> provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Provides tactical <strong>and</strong><br />

technical guidance in company area of operations. Plans <strong>and</strong> coordinates<br />

employment of ground surveillance systems. Assists in prepar<br />

a t i o n a n d i m p l e m e n t a t i o n o f r e c o n n a i s s a n c e a n d s u r v e i l l a n c e<br />

operations plans. Plans, coordinates, supervises <strong>and</strong> participates in<br />

activities pertaining to organization, training, <strong>and</strong> combat operations.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Ground surveillance systems operators must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222121.<br />

(3) Normal color vision.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 85 in aptitude area EL <strong>and</strong> 95 in aptitude<br />

area SC.<br />

(5) A security clearance of SECRET.<br />

(6) Be A U.S. citizen.<br />

(7) Meet career management <strong>and</strong> development criteria contained<br />

in AR 600-200, AR 614-200, <strong>and</strong> DA Pam 351-4.<br />

(8) A high school graduate or equivalent.<br />

10–273. 96U—Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Operator<br />

(UAV Operator), CMF 96<br />

a. Major duties. The UAV operator supervises or operates the<br />

UAV, to include mission planning, minor air frame repair, launching,<br />

remotely piloting, <strong>and</strong> recovering the aerial vehicle. Duties for<br />

MOS 96U at each skill level are:<br />

( 1 ) M O S C 9 6 U 1 O . P r e p a r e s a n d c o n d u c t s a i r r e c o n n a i s s a n c e<br />

mission. Operates a day <strong>and</strong> night infrared camera for target identification.<br />

Plans <strong>and</strong> analyzes flight missions. Deploys <strong>and</strong> redeploys<br />

the UAV ground <strong>and</strong> air system. Assembles <strong>and</strong> disassembles the<br />

air vehicle. Installs <strong>and</strong> removes mission payloads. Operates <strong>and</strong><br />

performs operator level maintenance on organic communications<br />

equipment, power sources, light <strong>and</strong> heavy wheel vehicle <strong>and</strong> some<br />

crane operations. Performs pre-flight checks. Launches <strong>and</strong> recovers<br />

the air frames from runway.<br />

( 2 ) M O S C 9 6 U 2 O . P e r f o r m s d u t i e s s h o w n i n p r e c e d i n g s k i l l<br />

level <strong>and</strong> provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Directs site<br />

selection of ground control station (GCS) <strong>and</strong> mission planning<br />

section (MPS). Supervises <strong>and</strong> assists in mission planning, using<br />

maps, terrain studies, <strong>and</strong> intelligence reports. Operates the camera<br />

for target identification. Participates <strong>and</strong> supervises operator <strong>and</strong><br />

crew maintenance procedures performed on UAV air <strong>and</strong> ground<br />

e q u i p m e n t , o r g a n i c c o m m u n i c a t i o n s e q u i p m e n t , v e h i c l e s , p o w e r<br />

sources <strong>and</strong> other assigned equipment.<br />
