b. Description of duties: Conducts quantitative <strong>and</strong> qualitative<br />

examinations of auditory pathway; prescribes <strong>and</strong> implements<br />

nonmedical treatment to conserve or improve communication ability;<br />

designs, develops, <strong>and</strong> maintains hearing conservation programs.<br />

Duties are performed in MTOE/TDA organizations, both CONUS <strong>and</strong><br />

OCONUS.<br />

c. Qualifications: Requires a master’s degree from an accredited<br />

program acceptable to The Surgeon General in audiology or<br />

communication disoders with a major in audiology. Must also meet<br />

military education requirements specified in paragraph 3-21e(2).<br />

d. Restrictions: For use by AMEDD Officers in AOC 67C.<br />

Code: 72D<br />

Title: Environmental Science<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions: Positions include the<br />

following:Environmental Science Staff Officer <strong>and</strong> Chief, Sanitation <strong>and</strong><br />

Hygiene Office.<br />

b. Description of duties: Advises on or performs professional <strong>and</strong><br />

scientific work in environmental health <strong>and</strong> industrial hygiene. Functions<br />

include: identification, evaluation, <strong>and</strong> formulation of recommendations<br />

for the control of potential health hazards; health hazard assessment of<br />

weapons, equipment, clothing, training devices <strong>and</strong> materiel systems;<br />

development of environmental health <strong>and</strong> industrial hygiene criteria <strong>and</strong><br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards; promotion of policies, programs, practices, <strong>and</strong> operations<br />

directed toward the prevention of disease, illness, <strong>and</strong> injury. Duties are<br />

performed in MTOE/TDA organizations, both CONUS <strong>and</strong> OCONUS.<br />

c. Qualifications: Must have completed a bachelor’s degree with a<br />

minimum of 30 semester hours in the physical <strong>and</strong>/or biological<br />

sciences, preferably in public health, environmental science, industrial<br />

hygiene, biology, chemistry, toxicology or epidemiology <strong>and</strong>/or possess<br />

a master’s degree in public health or related area of specialization such<br />

as environmental health, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or<br />

food technology from an accredited program acceptable to The Surgeon<br />

General. To hold executive positions at the field grade level, must<br />

possess a master’s degree as stated above. Professional qualifications<br />

for unrestricted practice must be met. Must also meet military education<br />

requirements specified in paragraph 3-21e(2).<br />

d. Restrictions: For use by AMEDD officers in AOC 67C.<br />

Code: 72E<br />

Title: Sanitary Engineer<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions: Positions include the following: Chief,<br />

director, or comm<strong>and</strong>er of various TOE/TDA preventive medicine,<br />

environmental health <strong>and</strong> quality, environmental compliance, industrial<br />

hygiene or environmental engineering units, agencies, or activities;<br />

consultant for sanitary engineering, environmental sciences, <strong>and</strong> health<br />

hazard assessment; project officer; assistant professor of preventive<br />

medicine; industrial hygiene officer; preventive medicine officer;<br />

pollution abatement officer; environmental engineer; sanitary engineer.<br />

b. Description of duties: Advises on or performs professional <strong>and</strong><br />

scientific work utilizing industrial engineering principles <strong>and</strong> practices to<br />

protect health <strong>and</strong> the environment. Duties include the assessment of<br />

existing <strong>and</strong> proposed weapons, equipment, clothing, training devices<br />

<strong>and</strong> materiel systems. Activities relate to the design <strong>and</strong> formulation of<br />

recommendations to preserve <strong>and</strong> enhance health <strong>and</strong> environmental<br />

conditions to include air, water, noise, liquid <strong>and</strong> solid waste disposal,<br />

<strong>and</strong> institutional hygiene. Duties are performed in MTOE/TDA<br />

organizations, both CONUS <strong>and</strong> OCONUS.<br />

c. Qualifications: Must possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering<br />

from a school acceptable to The Surgeon General. The overall<br />

curriculum in mathematics, basic science, engineering science, <strong>and</strong><br />

engineering design must provide an integrated education experience<br />

directed toward the development of an ability to identify <strong>and</strong> solve<br />

practical problems in the designated area of engineering specialization.<br />

Professional qualifications for unrestricted practice in this medical<br />

functional area must be met. Must also meet the military education<br />

requirements specified in paragraph 3-21e(2).<br />

d. Restrictions: For use by AMEDD officers in AOC 67C.<br />

Code: 73A<br />

Title: Social Work<br />

a. Description of positions: Positions include the following:<br />

SocialWorker; Chief, Social Work Service; <strong>and</strong> Consultant, Social Work<br />

Services.<br />

b. Description of duties: Performs social work functions which include:<br />

provide critical event debriefings, psychological autopsies, suicide<br />

prevention, clinical counseling, disaster relief, civil affairs, crisis<br />

interventions, substance abuse interventions, teaching <strong>and</strong> training,<br />

supervision, research, administration, consultation <strong>and</strong> policy<br />

development in various military setting. These functions are provided to<br />

enhance unit readiness <strong>and</strong> the emotional well being of service<br />

members, their eligible family members, <strong>and</strong> DA civilians as appropriate.<br />

Duties are performed in CONUS <strong>and</strong> OCONUS MTOE <strong>and</strong> TDA<br />

organizations.<br />

c. Qualifications: In addition to meeting the military education level<br />

specified in paragraph 3-20f, requires a master’s degree in social work<br />

from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education <strong>and</strong><br />

acceptable to The Surgeon General. Professional qualifications for<br />

unrestricted practice must be met.<br />

d. Restrictions: For use by AMEDD officers in AOC 67D.<br />

Code: 73B<br />

Title: Clinical Psychology<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions: Positions include the<br />

following:Psychologist, Counseling Psychologist, Psychology Service<br />

Chief, Consulting Psychologist, <strong>and</strong> Behavioral Science Consultant.<br />

b. Description of duties: Applies psychological principles, theories,<br />

methods, <strong>and</strong> techniques through direct patient services, consultation,<br />

education, <strong>and</strong> research to problems of human effectiveness,<br />

adjustment, <strong>and</strong> emotional disturbance in medical <strong>and</strong> other settings;<br />

investigations, evaluations, <strong>and</strong> amelioration of mental <strong>and</strong> behavior<br />

disorders; prevention of mental illness; <strong>and</strong> promotion of effective mental<br />

health. Duties are performed in MTOE/TDA organizations, both CONUS<br />

<strong>and</strong> OCONUS.<br />

c. Qualifications: In addition to meeting the military education level<br />

specified in paragraph 3-21f(2), must posses a PhD in clinical<br />

psychology,counseling psychology, or other subspecialty of psychology<br />

from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program<br />

acceptable to The Surgeon General. Must have completed a 1 year APA<br />

approved clinical psychology internship or its equivalent. Must have a<br />

current license to practice psychology in the United States, U.S.<br />

Territories, or the District of Columbia. Professional qualifications for<br />

unrestricted practice must bemet. Graduates of the Clinical Psychology<br />

Internship Program (CPIP) must complete all requirements for the PhD<br />

<strong>and</strong> license within the period of their initial obligation. Health Professions<br />

Scholarship Program (HPSP) officers who fail to complete the PhD<br />

requirements <strong>and</strong>/or requirements for license will be reclassified into<br />

another AOC in the <strong>Army</strong> structure based on <strong>Army</strong> needs.<br />

d. Restrictions: For use by AMEDD officers in AOC 67D.<br />

Code: 75A<br />

Title: Field Veterinary Service<br />

Proponent: OTSG<br />

a. Description of positions: Positions include the following:<br />

VeterinaryService Officer, MEDDAC/MEDCEN <strong>and</strong> Med R&D<br />

Comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

b. Description of duties: Performs, supervises, directs or coordinates<br />

inspection, to include examination <strong>and</strong> testing, of subsistence<br />

forwholesomeness, nutritional quality, <strong>and</strong> conformance with other<br />

Federal <strong>and</strong> military st<strong>and</strong>ards. Provides veterinary medical diagnostic<br />

<strong>and</strong> treatment services <strong>and</strong> surgery for Government-owned animals <strong>and</strong><br />

other animals as authorized. Participates as research investigator in<br />

biomedical research <strong>and</strong> research support. Instructs or trains officers<br />

<strong>and</strong> enlisted specialists in any or all of these aspects of military<br />

veterinary services. This is an initial/entry level skill for the AOC 64A.<br />

c. Qualifications: Must have successfully completed the AMEDD<br />

Officer Basic Course.<br />

d. Restrictions: Only for use by AMEDD Company Grade Officer with<br />

AOC 64A.<br />

Title: Veterinary Preventive Medicine<br />
