<strong>and</strong> assists in setting up veterinary unit equipment. Performs duties<br />

in accordance with approved st<strong>and</strong>ards of conduct <strong>and</strong> reports suspected<br />

fraud.<br />

(2) MOSC 91R2O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of<br />

skill <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to junior personnel. Develops<br />

statistical sampling procedures. Collects, prepares, <strong>and</strong> transmits<br />

samples to laboratory for testing. Reviews laboratory test results <strong>and</strong><br />

compares to product requirements. Records contractual deficiencies<br />

<strong>and</strong> initiates recommendations for corrective actions. Conducts subsistence<br />

quality assurance inspections in food h<strong>and</strong>ling establishments,<br />

evaluates <strong>and</strong> recommends corrective actions for unsanitary<br />

conditions. Prepares <strong>and</strong> maintains quality history record <strong>and</strong> product<br />

verification record <strong>and</strong> distributes as required. Performs pest<br />

management, monitoring of packaged water supplies, <strong>and</strong> field sanitation<br />

procedures. Conducts sanitary inspections in military <strong>and</strong><br />

commercial facilities.<br />

(3) MOSC 91R3O. Develops <strong>and</strong> directs procurement quality ass<br />

u r a n c e a c t i v i t i e s i n c o n t r a c t o r e s t a b l i s h m e n t s . S u p e r v i s e s s m a l l<br />

food inspection or combined veterinary service unit. Supervises the<br />

food inspection equipment maintenance program, prepares <strong>and</strong> conducts<br />

technical training. Monitors subordinate personnel performance,<br />

performs counseling, <strong>and</strong> prepares evaluation reports. Assists<br />

veterinarian in control of zoonotic diseases <strong>and</strong> other animal diseases<br />

of military concern <strong>and</strong> significance. Reviews, consolidates<br />

<strong>and</strong> analyzes food inspection reports. Conducts sanitary inspections<br />

in military <strong>and</strong> commercial facilities. Conducts NBC surveys <strong>and</strong><br />

decontaminates subsistence supplies. Utilized as the subject matter<br />

expert <strong>and</strong> team leader for the food protection quality assurance<br />

program.<br />

(4) MOSC 91R4O. Supervises medium sized or combined veterinary<br />

service unit. Coordinates transportation, administration, <strong>and</strong><br />

logistical support of food inspectors <strong>and</strong> animal care specialists<br />

assigned to local activities <strong>and</strong> at remote sites. Develops, evaluates,<br />

<strong>and</strong> directs individual <strong>and</strong> collective training programs. Reviews,<br />

consolidates, <strong>and</strong> prepares technical reports. Reviews <strong>and</strong> updates<br />

publications. Prepares <strong>and</strong> reviews correspondence. Serves as advisor<br />

to veterinary officer in developing food product quality assurance<br />

programs.<br />

(5) MOSC 91R5O. Supervises large combined veterinary service<br />

units or serves on veterinary staff. Coordinates veterinary service<br />

activities with all elements of Department of Defense organizations,<br />

veterinary staff elements, <strong>and</strong> suborinate organizations. Participates<br />

in comm<strong>and</strong> review of subordinate unit activities, evaluates training<br />

p r o g r a m s , a n d p r o v i d e s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n s f o r i m p r o v e m e n t .<br />

Develops budgets, training schedules, <strong>and</strong> authorization documents.<br />

Assists comm<strong>and</strong>er in strategic planning, risk management procedures,<br />

tactical communication plans, <strong>and</strong> advises comm<strong>and</strong>er on all<br />

issues involving enlisted soldiers.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Veterinary food inspection specialists must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of moderately heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) Normal color vision <strong>and</strong> good near vision.<br />

(4) Possession of normal olfactory senses.<br />

(5) A minimum score of 100 in aptitude area ST.<br />

(6) High school diploma or GED with credit for general science,<br />

or mathematics (minimum score of 45 on GED Test 5, High School<br />

level is satisfactory for math requirements).<br />

(7) Formal training (completion of MOS 91R course, or the RC<br />

AOCP nonresident—two week resident course, conducted under the<br />

auspices of the AHS) m<strong>and</strong>atory.<br />

(8) No pattern of undesirable behavior as evidenced by civilian<br />

or military record.<br />

(1) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.<br />

(2) 2S—Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 <strong>and</strong> above).<br />

10–254. 91S—Preventive Medicine Specialist (Pvnt Med<br />

Sp), CMF 91<br />

a. Major duties. The preventive medicine specialist conducts or<br />

assists with preventive medicine inspections, surveys, control operations,<br />

<strong>and</strong> preventive medicine laboratory procedures, supervises<br />

preventive medicine facilities, or serves on preventive medicine<br />

staff. Duties for MOS 91S at each level of skill are:<br />

( 1 ) M O S C 9 1 S 1 O . C o n d u c t s p r e v e n t i v e m e d i c i n e i n s p e c t i o n s ,<br />

surveys <strong>and</strong> control operations <strong>and</strong> assists with preventive medicine<br />

laboratory procedures.<br />

( 2 ) M O S C 9 1 S 2 O . C o n d u c t s p r e v e n t i v e m e d i c i n e i n s p e c t i o n s ,<br />

surveys, <strong>and</strong> control operations <strong>and</strong> assists with preventive medicine<br />

laboratory procedures. Supervises subordinate personnel in the performance<br />

of their duties.<br />

(3) MOSC 91S3O. Supervises small preventive medicine services<br />

or units. Organizes water, food sanitation, hospital environment,<br />

entomological, epidemiological, <strong>and</strong> environmental stress surveillance<br />

programs. Analyzes <strong>and</strong> evaluates collected data. Supervises<br />

t e c h n i c a l a n d a d m i n i s t r a t i v e f u n c t i o n s o f p r e v e n t i v e m e d i c i n e<br />

activities.<br />

(4) MOSC 91S4O. Supervises medium size preventive medicine<br />

services or medical teams/detachments. Assists with development of<br />

unit defense plans <strong>and</strong> operational orders. Reviews <strong>and</strong> makes appropriate<br />

recommendations on doctrine <strong>and</strong> training literature. Maint<br />

a i n s i n t e l l i g e n c e i n f o r m a t i o n a n d r e c o r d s . E s t a b l i s h e s q u a l i t y<br />

control procedures for inspection programs <strong>and</strong> laboratory analysis.<br />

Develops community health education programs. Evaluates existing<br />

preventive medicine programs <strong>and</strong> modifies as necessary to meet the<br />

needs of the population served.<br />

(5) MOSC 91S5O. Supervises large preventive medicine services<br />

or units, or serves on preventive medicine staff. Staff activities<br />

include writing, developing, <strong>and</strong> coordinating comm<strong>and</strong>-wide regulations<br />

<strong>and</strong> policies relating to preventive medicine services. Particip<br />

a t e s i n c o m m a n d r e v i e w a n d a p p r o v a l o f s u b o r d i n a t e u n i t<br />

activities. Assists in planning <strong>and</strong> placement of field medical units.<br />

Evaluates training programs <strong>and</strong> provides recommendations for improvement.<br />

Participates in studies <strong>and</strong> reviews. Maintains records of<br />

strength, location <strong>and</strong> employment of preventive medicine assets.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS.<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of medium.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) Normal color vision.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 105 in aptitude area ST.<br />

(5) Credit for completion of one year each of high school level<br />

chemistry <strong>and</strong> algebra or equivalent. Proficiency exam recognized<br />

by an <strong>Army</strong> Education Center fulfill this requirement.<br />

(6) Formal training (completion of MOS 91S course, or the RC<br />

AOCP nonresident—2 week resident course, conducted under the<br />

auspices of the AHS) m<strong>and</strong>atory.<br />
