10–252. 91Q—Pharmacy Specialist, CMF 91<br />

a. Major duties. The pharmacy specialist prepares, controls, <strong>and</strong><br />

issues pharmaceutical products under the supervision of a pharmacist<br />

or physician, or supervises pharmacy activities. MOS 91Q personnel<br />

require finger dexterity in both h<strong>and</strong>s. Duties for MOS 91Q<br />

at each level are:<br />

(1) MOSC 91Q1O. Prepares, controls, <strong>and</strong> issues pharmaceutical<br />

products. Prescription h<strong>and</strong>ling <strong>and</strong> dispensing: Under close supervision,<br />

manually or using a computerized system: receives, interprets,<br />

compounds, manufactures, fills, labels, issues <strong>and</strong> files prescription,<br />

bulk drug, sterile product <strong>and</strong>/or unit dose orders. Evaluates orders<br />

to verify dosage, dosage regimen <strong>and</strong> quantity to be dispensed.<br />

Checks for completeness <strong>and</strong> correctness <strong>and</strong> for common interactions,<br />

in-compatibilities <strong>and</strong> availability. Refers questionable orders<br />

or questions on basic formulation to supervisor for clarification.<br />

Reduces or enlarges formulas, as required. Calculates <strong>and</strong> annotates<br />

proper dosage. Evaluates completed orders to ensure integrity of<br />

final product. Provides information regarding availability, strength<br />

a n d c o m p o s i t i o n o f m e d i c a t i o n s t o p h y s i c i a n s o r p h a r m a c i s t s .<br />

Verifies patient eligibility for receipt of medication. Provides instructions<br />

to patients regarding medication consumption <strong>and</strong> side<br />

effects. Performs quality control checks on medications. Issues medications<br />

to patients, wards, clinics <strong>and</strong> other using agencies. Supply,<br />

administration <strong>and</strong> maintenance: Assigns <strong>and</strong> records prescription<br />

numbers. Delivers unit dose, sterile products, bulkdrug <strong>and</strong> controlled<br />

drug orders. Prepares prescription labels <strong>and</strong> affixes auxiliary<br />

labels. Maintains signature cards <strong>and</strong> prescription files. Prepares <strong>and</strong><br />

maintains files of controlled substances stock cards, records <strong>and</strong><br />

work units. Maintains master formula record, batch sheet <strong>and</strong> patient<br />

medicationrecord. Maintains pharmacy reference files <strong>and</strong> publication<br />

library. Prepares <strong>and</strong> files pharmaceutical reports. Prepares requisitions<br />

for <strong>and</strong> receives, packs, unpacks, stores, safeguards <strong>and</strong><br />

accounts for inventories. Controls <strong>and</strong> issues pharmaceuticals <strong>and</strong><br />

pharmacy supplies. Inspects, calibrates, operates <strong>and</strong> performs preventive<br />

maintenance on common pharmaceutical manufacturing <strong>and</strong><br />

packaging equipment. Cleans <strong>and</strong> disinfects pharmacy equipment<br />

<strong>and</strong> work areas. Packs, unpacks, loads <strong>and</strong> unloads equipment <strong>and</strong><br />

assists in setting up unit equipment.<br />

(2) MOSC 91Q2O. Prepares duties shown in preceding level of<br />

skill <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel in<br />

accomplishment of these duties. Prepares, controls <strong>and</strong> issues pharmaceutical<br />

products to include chemotherapeutics. Evaluates sterile<br />

products <strong>and</strong> orders to include calculations, identification of drug<br />

interactions <strong>and</strong> drug compatibilities. Maintain pharmacy system<br />

database.<br />

(3) MOSC 91Q3O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of<br />

skill. Assists with or supervises pharmacy operations. Prescription<br />

h<strong>and</strong>ling <strong>and</strong> dispensing: Refers questionable drug orders or questions<br />

on basic formulation to appropriate professional for clarificat<br />

i o n . P r e p a r e s m a s t e r f o r m u l a c a r d s a n d d r u g c o n t r o l l e d g e r s .<br />

Reviews <strong>and</strong> updates compounding formula reference file. Superv<br />

i s e s r e q u i s i t i o n i n g o f s t a n d a r d a n d n o n s t a n d a r d s u p p l i e s . E s -<br />

t a b l i s h e s a n d m a i n t a i n s s t o c k l e v e l s . R e s e a r c h e s a n d i n t e r p r e t s<br />

pharmaceutical supply catalogs. Disposes of unserviceable <strong>and</strong> outdated<br />

pharmaceuticals. Organizes work schedules, assigns duties <strong>and</strong><br />

instructs subordinates in work techniques, procedures, <strong>and</strong> evaluates<br />

p h a r m a c y o p e r a t i o n s . E s t a b l i s h e s w o r k p r i o r i t i e s a n d d i s t r i b u t e s<br />

work load. Inspects pharmacy area to ensure orderly, clean <strong>and</strong> safe<br />

environment. Supervises operational maintenance program of pharmacy<br />

equipment. Prepares <strong>and</strong> conducts training programs. Evalua<br />

evaluation reports. Prepares <strong>and</strong> updates pharmacy St<strong>and</strong>ard Operating<br />

Procedure (SOP).<br />

( 4 ) M O S C 9 1 Q 4 O . S u p e r v i s e s p h a r m a c y o p e r a t i o n s . P e r f o r m s<br />

duties shown in preceding level of skill. Ensures compliance with<br />

quality control methods <strong>and</strong> procedures. Assists in compiling information<br />

for Pharmacy <strong>and</strong> Therapeutics Committee Meetings. Assists<br />

in revision <strong>and</strong> update of hospital formulary or drug list. Reviews<br />

work schedules. Establishes, reviews, evaluates <strong>and</strong> makes necessary<br />

revisions to training programs. Ensures compliance with <strong>Army</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> Federal rules, laws <strong>and</strong> regulations relative to pharmacy operations.<br />

Directs <strong>and</strong> supervises supply inventories. Reviews established<br />

stock levels to ensure compliance with comm<strong>and</strong> guidance.<br />

Reviews requisitions for st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>and</strong> nonst<strong>and</strong>ard items <strong>and</strong> emergency<br />

medications. Reviews, consolidates <strong>and</strong> prepares technical,<br />

personnel <strong>and</strong> administrative reports. Assists pharmacist in personnel<br />

matters. Prepares manpower survey reports. Coordinates pharm<br />

a c y a n d p e r s o n n e l m a t t e r s p e r t a i n i n g t o p h a r m a c y w i t h o t h e r<br />

elements of medical treatment facility. Reviews operations to ensure<br />

compliance with Joint Commission Accreditation Hospital Organizations<br />

(JCAHO) st<strong>and</strong>ards.<br />

( 5 ) M O S C 9 1 Q 5 O . S u p e r v i s e s p h a r m a c y a c t i v i t i e s w i t h i n t h e<br />

<strong>Army</strong> Medical Department (AMEDD). Performs duties shown in<br />

preceding level of skill. Assists in establishment <strong>and</strong> operation of<br />

formal training programs for specialized areas. Ensures compliance<br />

with quality control st<strong>and</strong>ards for doctrinal material in formal training<br />

programs. Compiles information for Pharmacy <strong>and</strong> Therapeutic<br />

Committee Meeting.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . P h a r m a c y s p e c i a l i s t s m u s t p o s s e s s t h e f o l l o w i n g<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of moderately heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) Normal color vision.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area ST.<br />

(5) Formal training (completion of the MOS 91B course <strong>and</strong><br />

MOS 91Q course conducted under the auspices of the AHS) m<strong>and</strong>atory<br />

or meet the civilian acquired skills criteria listed in AR 601-<br />

210.<br />

10–253. 91R—Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist (Vet<br />

Food Insp Sp), CMF 91<br />

a. Major duties. The veterinary food inspection specialist supervises<br />

the inspection of, or inspects meat, poultry, water foods, eggs,<br />

dairy products, operational rations, fresh fruits <strong>and</strong> vegetables in<br />

depots, supply points, <strong>and</strong> on military installations to assure a safe,<br />

high quality food supply for DoD personnel in all environments<br />

with emphasis on the field wartime environment. Duties for MOS<br />

91R at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 91R1O. Inspects food products designated for human<br />

consumption on receipt <strong>and</strong> in storage. Selects food samples using<br />

statistical sampling methods, makes sensory evaluations, determines<br />

<strong>and</strong> records temperatures of products <strong>and</strong> food in storage areas.<br />

Evaluates packaging, packing <strong>and</strong> marking requirements in accordance<br />

with DoD st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> contractual documents. Classifies def<br />

e c t s , d e t e r m i n e s q u a l i t y o f p r o d u c t , a d v i s e s s u p e r v i s o r , a n d<br />

p r e p a r e s s u b s i s t e n c e i n s p e c t i o n r e p o r t s . C o l l e c t s , p r e p a r e s , a n d<br />

transmits samples to laboratory for testing. Identifies unsanitary<br />

conditions in food storage facilities <strong>and</strong> commissary stores. Operates
