10–244. 91C—Practical Nurse (Prac Nurse), CMF 91<br />

a. Major duties. The practical nurse supervises or performs preventive,<br />

therapeutic, <strong>and</strong> emergency nursing care procedures under<br />

supervision of physician, nurse or NCO. Duties for MOS 91C at<br />

each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 91C1O. Performs preventive, therapeutic <strong>and</strong> emergency<br />

nursing care procedures under supervision of physician, nurse<br />

or NCO.<br />

(2) MOSC 91C2O. Performs preventive, therapeutic <strong>and</strong> emergency<br />

nursing care procedures under supervision of physician, nurse<br />

or medical NCO.<br />

(3) MOSC 91C3O. Performs preventive, therapeutic, <strong>and</strong> emergency<br />

nursing care procedures or supervisory management of small<br />

ward/unit.<br />

( 4 ) M O S C 9 1 C 4 O . S u p e r v i s e s m a n a g e m e n t o f o n e o r m o r e<br />

wards/units <strong>and</strong>manages para-professional nursing personnel.<br />

( 5 ) M O S C 9 1 C 5 O . M a n a g e s w a r d / u n i t o p e r a t i o n s i n l a r g e<br />

hospital.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. The practical nurse must possess the following qualifications:<br />

(1) Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating—N/A.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area ST.<br />

(4) Formal training:<br />

(a) Active <strong>Army</strong> inservice soilders must have held MOS 91B <strong>and</strong><br />

must have at least 1 year experience as a 91B. All soldiers attending<br />

the <strong>Army</strong> Medical Department Center & School (AMEDD) 91C<br />

Scores with a minimum score of English 15, Reading 17, <strong>and</strong> Math<br />

17; or a MOS 91C Course conducted under the auspices of the<br />

AMEDD Center & School. Obtain <strong>and</strong> maintain a valid <strong>and</strong> current<br />

professional license per DOD Directive 6025,13, (Exception: Sold<br />

i e r s a t t e n d i n g t h e e x p o r t a b l e 9 1 C t r a i n i n g c o n d u c t e d a t a n<br />

AMEDD Center & School approved Reserve Component School are<br />

exempt from the MOS 91B prerequisite).<br />

(b)<br />

(c) Soldiers covered by (a) above who fail the initial National<br />

Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) must retake the examination<br />

at the earliest possible date. A soldier who twice fails the<br />

licensure examination or is not licensed within one year of graduation<br />

per AR 40-68 (which ever occurs first) may be released from<br />

active duty under AR 635-200 or reclassified under AR 600-200.<br />

10–245. 91D—Operating Room Specialist, CMF 91<br />

a. Major duties. The operating room specialist assists the nursing<br />

staff in preparing the patient <strong>and</strong> the operating room (OR) environment<br />

for surgery <strong>and</strong> for providing assistance to the medical staff<br />

during surgical procedures. They also operate the centralized material<br />

service (CMS) <strong>and</strong> are responsible for preparing <strong>and</strong> maintaini<br />

n g s t e r i l e m e d i c a l s u p p l i e s a n d s p e c i a l e q u i p m e n t f o r m e d i c a l<br />

treatment facilities. The operating room specialist also assists in the<br />

management of operating room suites. Duties for MOS 91D at each<br />

level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 91D1O. Assists in preparing patients <strong>and</strong> operating<br />

room environments for surgery <strong>and</strong> provides assistance to the medical<br />

staff during surgical procedures. Performs various preoperative<br />

<strong>and</strong> postoperative procedures as directed. Maintains the cleanliness<br />

of the operating room <strong>and</strong> sets up sterile fields for surgical procedures.<br />

Receives, cleans, decontaminates, sterilizes, stores <strong>and</strong> issues<br />

v a r i o u s m e d i c a l s u p p l i e s a n d e q u i p m e n t u s e d d u r i n g s u r g i c a l<br />

procedures.<br />

(2) MOSC 91D2O. Performs duties shown in the preceding skill<br />

level <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to subordinates. Performs<br />

operating room scrubs <strong>and</strong> provides scrub <strong>and</strong> circulator services as<br />

required. Sets up, positions, <strong>and</strong> operates specialized operating room<br />

equipment. Supervises <strong>and</strong> advises subordinate personnel.<br />

(3) MOSC 91D3O. Performs duties shown in the preceding skill<br />

level <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to subordinates. Implements<br />

<strong>and</strong> monitors the automatic war <strong>and</strong> clinic delivery system. Monitors<br />

quality of sterilization techniques to ensure adherence to establ<br />

i s h e d s t a n d a r d s . S u p e r v i s e s t h e m a i n t e n a n c e p r o g r a m s i n t h e<br />

operating room <strong>and</strong> the central material service. Establishes stock<br />

levels for requisitioning supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment <strong>and</strong> supervises their<br />

storage <strong>and</strong> issue. Prepares <strong>and</strong> maintains various reports <strong>and</strong> files.<br />

Supervises <strong>and</strong> advises subordinate personnel.<br />

(4) MOSC 91D4O. Performs duties shown in the preceding skill<br />

level <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to subordinates. Coordinates<br />

activities of the OR <strong>and</strong> CMS with other elements of the medical<br />

treatment facility. Develops, monitors, <strong>and</strong> evaluates training. Establishes<br />

policies for <strong>and</strong> monitors exposure levels of sterilization<br />

chemicals <strong>and</strong> anesthetic gases with the OR. Participates in the<br />

preparation of the OP <strong>and</strong> CMS budget. Supervises <strong>and</strong> advises<br />

subordinate personnel.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. The operating room specialist must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of medium.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) Normal color perception <strong>and</strong> normal vision with or without<br />

corrective lens.<br />

(4) No aversion to the sight of blood <strong>and</strong> freedom from chronic<br />

or recurrent skin infections or allergies when h<strong>and</strong>ling antiseptics,<br />

disinfectants, or cleaning agents.<br />

(5) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area ST.<br />

(6) Formal training (completion of MOS 91B course <strong>and</strong> MOS<br />

91D course conducted under the auspices of the AMEDDC&S)<br />

m<strong>and</strong>atory or meet the <strong>Army</strong> civilian acquired skill criteria listed in<br />

AR 601-210.<br />

c. Additional skill identifiers.<br />
