Services <strong>Army</strong> watercraft, amphibians <strong>and</strong> auxiliary equipment on<br />

marine vessels. Duties for MOS 88L at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 88L1O. St<strong>and</strong>s engine room <strong>and</strong> throttle watch while<br />

the vessel is underway. St<strong>and</strong>s anchor watch <strong>and</strong> ramp discharge<br />

watch during sea <strong>and</strong> anchor details <strong>and</strong> while the vessel is in port.<br />

Performs daily systems checks <strong>and</strong> posts all instrument <strong>and</strong> gage<br />

readings to the engineer log book. Positions fuel control racks <strong>and</strong><br />

adjusts throttle controls to maximize engine efficiency. Inspects,<br />

troubleshoots, tests, services, adjusts, repairs, <strong>and</strong> replaces batteries,<br />

electrical system components, fuel system elements, propellers <strong>and</strong><br />

propeller shafts, pumping assemblies <strong>and</strong> parts, <strong>and</strong> other marine<br />

engine equipment. Cleans, performs surface preparation, <strong>and</strong> paints<br />

engineer space equipment.<br />

(2) MOSC 88L2O. Provides supervision <strong>and</strong> technical expertise<br />

for subordinates performing their duties. Prepares marine vessel<br />

equipment for operation. Starts, operates, troubleshoots, <strong>and</strong> secures<br />

overhauls engine components, throttle controls, accessory drives,<br />

<strong>and</strong> wiring assemblies, cooling <strong>and</strong> lubrication systems, <strong>and</strong> vessel<br />

hulls for general upkeep. Computes fuel requirements <strong>and</strong> documents<br />

vessel fuel usage. Compiles <strong>and</strong> maintains the engine room<br />

records.<br />

(3) MOSC 88L3O. Supervises fire fighting, damage control, sanitation,<br />

<strong>and</strong> pollution control procedures aboard a vessel. Establishes<br />

<strong>and</strong> enforces engine department safety practices, supervises shipboard<br />

watches. Oversees, instructs, <strong>and</strong> provides technical advice in<br />

the maintenance of engines, electrical systems, cooling systems,<br />

lubrication systems, refrigeration systems, fuel systems, pneumatic<br />

systems, power <strong>and</strong> drive trains, steering systems, boilers <strong>and</strong> piping,<br />

hydraulics, <strong>and</strong> general vessel upkeep. Conducts crew or section<br />

drills <strong>and</strong> training. Prepares maintenance SOPs <strong>and</strong> organizes<br />

the work of the maintenance shop.<br />

(4) MOSC 88L4O. Instructs <strong>and</strong> supervises marine engine department<br />

personnel in all systems maintenance. Oversees posting of<br />

vessel log books, forms, <strong>and</strong> records. Assigns personnel to duty<br />

positions. Schedules equipment for calibration. Establishes maintenance<br />

priorities. Prepares <strong>and</strong> reviews shipyard specifications. Prep<br />

m a i n t e n a n c e s c h e d u l e s a n d r e c o r d s , m a t e r i e l r e a d i n e s s r e p o r t s ,<br />

equipment reports. Records required <strong>and</strong> completed modifications.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . W a t e r c r a f t e n g i n e e r s m u s t p o s s e s s t h e f o l l o w i n g<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) Uncorrected distant visual acuity of not more than 20/200 in<br />

each eye, that corrects with spectacle lenses to 20/20 in one eye <strong>and</strong><br />

20/40 in other eye.<br />

(4) Normal color vision based on no more than four errors in<br />

reading the pseudoisochromatic plate test.<br />

(5) A minimum score of 105 in aptitude area MM.<br />

(6) MOSC qualification per AR 56-9, at each level of skill.<br />

(7) MOS qualification may be attained by meeting the civilian<br />

acquired skills criteria listed in AR 601-210.<br />

c. Additional skill identifiers.<br />

(1) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.<br />

(2) 2S—Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 <strong>and</strong> above).<br />

(3) 4A—Reclassification Training.<br />

d. Physical requirements <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ards of grade. Physical requirements<br />

<strong>and</strong> SG relating to each skill level are listed in the<br />

following tables:<br />

10–234. 88M—Motor Transport Operator (Motor Transport<br />

Op), CMF 88<br />

a. Major duties. The Motor Transport Operator supervises or<br />

operates wheel vehicles to transport personnel <strong>and</strong> cargo. Duties for<br />

MOS 88M at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 88M1O. Operates all wheel vehicles <strong>and</strong> equipment<br />

over varied terrain <strong>and</strong> roadways for support of combat operations.<br />

Manages entrucking <strong>and</strong> detrucking of personnel being transported.<br />

Oversees <strong>and</strong> checks proper loading <strong>and</strong> unloading of cargo on<br />

vehicles <strong>and</strong> trailers. Secures cargo against inclement weather, pilferage,<br />

<strong>and</strong> damage. Operates vehicle component material h<strong>and</strong>ling<br />

equipment (MHE), as required. Employs l<strong>and</strong> navigation techniques.<br />

Must be knowledgeable with the operation of radios <strong>and</strong> weapons<br />

when they are mounted on the vehicle. Performs vehicle self-recovery<br />

<strong>and</strong> field expedients to include towing vehicles. Corrects or<br />

reports all vehicle deficiencies; supports mechanics where necessary.<br />

Prepares vehicle for movement/shipment by air, rail, or vessel.<br />

(2) MOSC 88M2O. Supervises <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance<br />

to subordinates in accomplishing their duties. Organizes <strong>and</strong> participates<br />

in convoys. Dispatches vehicles; verifies vehicle logbooks.<br />

Receives <strong>and</strong> fills requests from authorized persons for motor transport.<br />

Compiles time, mileage <strong>and</strong> load data. Operates the Heavy<br />

Exp<strong>and</strong>ed Mobility Tactical Transport (HEMTT), Heavy Equipment<br />

Transporter (HET), <strong>and</strong> Palletized Loading System (PLS) vehicles<br />

to include performing self-recovery operations.<br />

( 3 ) M O S C 8 8 M 3 O . S u p e r v i s e s d r i v e r s p e r f o r m i n g p r e v e n t i v e<br />

maintenance checks <strong>and</strong> services (PMCS) on vehicles. Operates in<br />

the truck terminal as a squad leader. Trains new drivers <strong>and</strong> manages<br />

the driver sustainment training program. Plans, organizes, <strong>and</strong><br />

operates a motor vehicle convoy. Performs convoy route reconnaiss<br />

a n c e . C o m m a n d s a c o n v o y m a r c h u n i t o r s e r i a l . S u p e r v i s e s<br />

transporting of all types of cargo. Posts <strong>and</strong> controls guards used to<br />

prevent pilferage <strong>and</strong> v<strong>and</strong>alism of cargo <strong>and</strong> equipment. Takes<br />

charge of vehicle recovery. Supervises personnel preparing vehicles<br />

for deployment.<br />

(4) MOSC 88M4O. Provides professional support <strong>and</strong> technical<br />

guidance to all <strong>Army</strong> soldiers requiring motor transport. Plans, mana<br />

g e s , a n d m o n i t o r s u n i t m o t o r t r a n s p o r t o p e r a t i o n s a s t h e t r u -<br />

ckmaster. Establishes <strong>and</strong> organizes the unit motor park. Prepares<br />

<strong>and</strong> implements the truck company security <strong>and</strong> defense plan. Prepares<br />

map overlays. Receives <strong>and</strong> distributes highway motor transport<br />

missions. Assembles <strong>and</strong> prepares highway reconnaissance data<br />

for motor convoy transport. Supervises <strong>and</strong> directs unit dispatching<br />

o f v e h i c l e s . C o o r d i n a t e s e n g i n e e r r e q u i r e m e n t s t o s u p p o r t a<br />

truckbattalion.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . M o t o r t r a n s p o r t o p e r a t o r s m u s t p o s s e s s t h e f o l l o w i n g<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222222.<br />

(3) Color discrimination of red/green.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area OF.<br />

(5) A valid U.S. Government motor vehicle operator’s permit for<br />

class of vehicle to which assigned.<br />

(6) A valid state motor vehicle operator’s permit (not due to<br />

expire prior to completion of AIT).<br />

(7) MOS qualification may be attained by meeting the civilian<br />

acquired skills criteria listed in AR 601-210.<br />
