10–196. 68N—Avionic Mechanic (Avionic Mech), CMF 67<br />

a. Major duties. The avionic mechanic performs unit <strong>and</strong> intermediate<br />

maintenance on tactical communications security (COM-<br />

SEC), communication, navigation, identification friend or foe (IFF),<br />

<strong>and</strong> flight control equipment. Duties for MOS 68N at each level of<br />

skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 68N1O. Repairs, replaces <strong>and</strong> performs operational<br />

<strong>and</strong> preventive checks <strong>and</strong> alignments on aircraft flight controls,<br />

stabilization systems, avionics <strong>and</strong> controlled cryptographic equipm<br />

e n t . T r o u b l e s h o o t s e q u i p m e n t a n d t r a c e s a v i o n i c a n d c r y p t o -<br />

graphic equipment wiring harnesses using technical manuals <strong>and</strong><br />

schematic drawings to diagnose <strong>and</strong> isolate faults <strong>and</strong> effect repairs.<br />

Performs unit maintenance on special <strong>and</strong> common h<strong>and</strong> tools <strong>and</strong><br />

test, measurement <strong>and</strong> diagnostic equipment. Requisitions <strong>and</strong> maintains<br />

shop <strong>and</strong> bench stock for repair of aircraft avionics equipment.<br />

Prepares forms <strong>and</strong> records related to aircraft maintenance.<br />

(2) MOSC 68N2O. Performs duties described in paragraph (1)<br />

<strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to subordinate personnel. Schedules<br />

maintenance on test, measurement, <strong>and</strong> diagnostic equipment. Alters<br />

or modifies material according to DA approved modification work<br />

orders.<br />

(3) MOSC 68N3O. Supervises <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to<br />

subordinate personnel performing maintenance of aircraft avionic,<br />

E v a l u a t e s<br />

maintenance operations <strong>and</strong> facilities for compliance with directives,<br />

technical manuals, work st<strong>and</strong>ards, safety procedures, <strong>and</strong> operational<br />

policies. Performs maintenance trend analysis <strong>and</strong> applies<br />

production control, quality control <strong>and</strong> other maintenance management<br />

principles <strong>and</strong> procedures to avionic repair shop operations.<br />

I n s t r u c t s p e r s o n n e l a n d c o n d u c t s t e c h n i c a l t r a i n i n g i n a i r c r a f t<br />

avionic, COMSEC, flight control, <strong>and</strong> stabilization equipment maintenance,<br />

supply, <strong>and</strong> safety techniques. Evaluates the technical training<br />

program. Monitors requisition of parts, tools <strong>and</strong> supplies.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Aircraft avionics mechanic (MOS 68N) must be in grade<br />

specialist (E4) (non-promotale or below unless they have held a<br />

CMF 67 MOS for a minimum of 12 months at skill level 1 or 2 or<br />

18 months at skill level 3. Waivers <strong>and</strong>/or exceptions must be<br />

approved by Cdr, USAAVNC, ATTN: ATZQ-AP, Ft Rucker, AL<br />

36362-5000.<br />

( 1 ) A i r c r a f t a v i o n i c s m e c h a n i c m u s t m e e t t h e f o l l o w i n g<br />

qualifications:<br />

(a) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(b) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(c) Normal color vision.<br />

(d) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area EL.<br />

(e) A security clearance of SECRET.<br />

(f) Formal training (completion of a resident MOS 68N course<br />

conducted under the auspices of the U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Aviation School)<br />

Waiver for formal training or ACASP criteria must be submitted to<br />

Cdr, USAAVNC, ATTN: ATZQ-AP, Ft Rucker, AL 36362 for<br />

approval.<br />

(2) Alcohol <strong>and</strong> drug abuse as defined below will disqualify any<br />

soldier or potential enlistee from this MOS. This disqualification<br />

will not be waived, even though the soldier/potential enlistee satisfactorily<br />

completes the <strong>Army</strong> Alcohol or Drug Abuse Rehabilitation<br />

Program or a civilian equivalent, except as specified below:<br />

(a) A medically diagnosed history of alcohol abuse as defined in<br />

the substance use disorder section of the Diagnostic <strong>and</strong> Statistical<br />

Manual III, 3rd Edition, 1980 (DSM III) is disqualifying. Cdr,<br />

PERSCOM may waive this disqualification after a soldier/potential<br />

enlistee in this MOS successfully completes the <strong>Army</strong> Alcohol <strong>and</strong><br />

Drug Abuse Prevention <strong>and</strong> Control Program (ADAPCP) Track I, II<br />

or III, or its civilian equivalent, based on the recommendations of<br />

the chain of comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> the Cdr, USA Aeromedical Center. A<br />

soldier/potential enlistee who completes any aspect of the ADAPCP<br />

program <strong>and</strong> is involved in an additional offense involving alcohol<br />

or alcohol abuse will be immediately reclassified or denied enlistment<br />

in this MOS as a high risk.<br />

(b) Except as provided in (e) below, a wrongful or improper use<br />

of narcotic or other controlled substance or dangerous drug as defined<br />

by 21 USC 801, et seq, is disqualifying.<br />

(c) A positive result of urine test administered in accordance with<br />

AR 600-85 that leads to medical evaluation <strong>and</strong> a finding of “no<br />

diagnosis apparent, improper use” is disqualifying.<br />

(d) Except as provided in (e) below, a documented instance of<br />

the use, sale, transfer, possession, or manufacture of any narcotic or<br />

other controlled substance or dangerous drug as defined by 21 USC<br />

801, et seq, is disqualifying. A documented instance includes conviction<br />

by any courts martial or any civilian court. Convictions<br />

include juvenile adjudication, non judicial punishment under Article<br />

15, UCMJ, or voluntary confession after proper rights warning according<br />

to Article 31(b), UCMJ.<br />

(e) A soldier or potential enlistee will not be disqualified for<br />

t e e n a g e c i v i l i a n e x p e r i m e n t a t i o n w i t h m a r i j u a n a o r o t h e r c a n -<br />

nabinoids disclosed in voluntary confessions of drug experimentation<br />

documented solely by information obtained from DD Form<br />

1966, SF 88 or SF 93. (Experimentation is defined as one time use<br />

or casual use over a short period of time resulting from peer pressure.)<br />

The use disclosed must have occurred prior to the individual’s<br />

18th birthday, <strong>and</strong> prior to enlistment in any armed force.<br />

c. Additional skill identifiers.<br />

(1) A2—Aviation Safety.<br />

(2) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.<br />

(3) W5—OH-58D Qualification.<br />

(4) X1—AH-64 Maintenance.<br />

(5) 2S—Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 <strong>and</strong> above).<br />

(6) 4A—Reclassification Training.<br />

d. Physical requirements <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ards of grade. Physical requirements<br />

<strong>and</strong> SG relating to each skill level are listed in the<br />

following tables:<br />

(1) Table 10-68N-1. Physical requirements.<br />

(2) Table 10-68N-2. St<strong>and</strong>ards of grade TOE/MTOE.<br />

(3) Table 10-68N-3. St<strong>and</strong>ards of grade TDA.<br />

10–197. 68P—Avionic Maintenance Supervisor (Avionic<br />

Maint Supv), CMF 67<br />

a. Major duties. The avionic maintenance supervisor supervises<br />

aviation unit (AVUM), intermediate (AVIM), <strong>and</strong> depot maintenance<br />

of aviation communications, navigation, radar, flight control<br />

<strong>and</strong> other electronic/electrical systems associated with <strong>Army</strong> aircraft.<br />

Other major duties for MOS 68P are: Supervises aircraft<br />

avionics repair <strong>and</strong> technical inspection activities. Determines manhours,<br />

personnel, parts <strong>and</strong> facility requirements to repair aircraft<br />

avionics <strong>and</strong> associated equipment. Plans aircraft maintenance areas,<br />

avionic repair shops <strong>and</strong> facilities. Instructs subordinates in aircraft<br />

avionics repair <strong>and</strong> technical inspection techniques <strong>and</strong> procedures<br />

according to directives, technical manuals, work st<strong>and</strong>ards, <strong>and</strong> operational<br />

policies. Maintains supply economy <strong>and</strong> discipline. Superv<br />

i s e s t h e a v i o n i c s r e p a i r t e c h n i c a l t r a i n i n g p r o g r a m . P r e p a r e s<br />

evaluations, special reports <strong>and</strong> records pertaining to aircraft avionic<br />

repair <strong>and</strong> related activities. Recommends <strong>and</strong> administers plans <strong>and</strong><br />

policies.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Avionic maintenance supervisors must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating is—N/A.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 323222.<br />

(3) Normal color vision.<br />

(4) Minimum score in aptitude area—N/A.<br />

(5) A security clearance of SECRET.<br />

(6) M<strong>and</strong>atory training in one of the feeder MOS or waiver<br />

granted by the Comm<strong>and</strong>er, USAAVNC.<br />

(7) Alcohol <strong>and</strong> drug abuse as defined below will disqualify any
