10–176. 63Y—Track Vehicle Mechanic (Track Veh Mech),<br />

CMF 63<br />

a. Major duties. The track vehicle mechanic performs unit maintenance<br />

on track vehicles in other than self-propelled field artillery,<br />

armored, mechanized infantry, <strong>and</strong> armored cavalry units. Duties for<br />

MOS 63Y at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 63Y1O. Troubleshoots <strong>and</strong> performs unit maintenance<br />

on internal combustion engines <strong>and</strong> accessories, powertrains, <strong>and</strong><br />

chassis components of track vehicles. Performs repairs <strong>and</strong> preventive<br />

maintenance checks <strong>and</strong> service. Tests lead acid batteries for<br />

serviceability. Prepares vehicles for operation under abnormal conditions<br />

by sealing, waterproofing, <strong>and</strong> servicing with special fuel<br />

<strong>and</strong> lubricants. Performs unit maintenance to correct malfunctions of<br />

mechanical, electrical, <strong>and</strong> hydraulic systems or components. Performs<br />

preventive maintenance on tools, repair parts, assigned vehic<br />

l e s a n d s h o p e q u i p m e n t a d j u s t s o p e r a t i n g m e c h a n i s m s . T u n e s<br />

engines <strong>and</strong> replaces repair parts <strong>and</strong> components as outlined in the<br />

appropriate maintenance allocation charts. Tests <strong>and</strong> operates vehicles<br />

<strong>and</strong> equipment as required <strong>and</strong> observes for evidence of abnormal<br />

operation. Operates, or assists in the operation of, track vehicles<br />

in conjunction with maintenance <strong>and</strong> recovery operation. Interprets<br />

s c h e m a t i c d i a g r a m s . D e t e r m i n e s e x t e n t o f c o r r e c t i v e a c t i o n a n d<br />

repair parts procedures required. Uses h<strong>and</strong> tools <strong>and</strong> carries toolbox.<br />

Uses power tools <strong>and</strong> equipment. Obtains replacement parts<br />

from maintenance parts supply section. Performs or assists in vehicle<br />

recovery <strong>and</strong> evacuation operations of track vehicles. Maneuvers<br />

wrecker to desired position. Uses recovery rigging techniques to<br />

attach <strong>and</strong> secure hoists, cables, <strong>and</strong> slings using authorized equipment,<br />

<strong>and</strong> effects recovery operations. Performs basic oxyacetylene<br />

cutting. Performs operator maintenance on recovery vehicles. Uses<br />

proper tactical radio procedures.<br />

(2) MOSC 63Y2O. Diagnoses <strong>and</strong> troubleshoots malfunctions in<br />

the automotive systems <strong>and</strong> components at the unit maintenance<br />

l e v e l . T r o u b l e s h o o t s t o c o m p o n e n t l e v e l . I s o l a t e s a n d i d e n t i f i e s<br />

causes of malfunctions. Operates vehicles for diagnosis <strong>and</strong> inspection<br />

purposes. Interprets complex schematic diagrams. Aligns <strong>and</strong><br />

adjusts assemblies <strong>and</strong> components or supervises lower grades in<br />

performing these functions to ensure that equipment is functioning<br />

within prescribed limits <strong>and</strong> tolerances. Supervises removal <strong>and</strong><br />

installation of power plants, conducts OJT. Completes applicable<br />

maintenance forms <strong>and</strong> records.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . T r a c k v e h i c l e m e c h a n i c s m u s t p o s s e s s t h e f o l l o w i n g<br />

qualifications:<br />

maintained.<br />

(6) Formal training (completion of MOS 63Y course conducted<br />

10–177. 63Z—Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor (Mech<br />

Maint Supv), CMF 63<br />

a. Major duties. The mechanical maintenance supervisor supervises,<br />

plans, coordinates, <strong>and</strong> directs the unit, direct support <strong>and</strong><br />

general support (DS/GS) maintenance of all mechanical equipment.<br />

(1) Serving as principal maintenance or operations NCO in maintenance<br />

battalion or higher level organization.<br />

(2) Supervising personnel performing the duties of—<br />

(a) Machinist (44E4O).<br />

(b) Armament/fire control maintenance supervisor (45Z4O).<br />

(c) Construction equipment repairer (62B4O).<br />

(d) Track vehicle repairer (63H4O).<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Mechanical maintenance supervisors (63Z5O) must possess<br />

the following qualifications:<br />

(1) Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating—N/A.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 323232.<br />

(3) Minimum score in aptitude area—N/A.<br />

(4) Must hold MOS 44E, 45Z, 52X, 62B, or 63H prior to award<br />

of MOS 63Z (MSG).<br />

(5) Must hold MOS 63B, 63D, 63E, 63N, 63T, or 63Z (MSG)<br />

prior to award of MOS 63Z (SGM).<br />

10–178. 67G—Utility Airplane Repairer (Util Airplane Rep)<br />

(Reserve Components), CMF 67<br />

a. Major duties. The utility airplane repairer supervises <strong>and</strong> performs<br />

maintenance on utility airplanes, excluding repair of systems<br />

components. Duties for MOS 67G at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 67G1O. Removes <strong>and</strong> installs airplane subsystem assemblies<br />

such as engines, propellers, main wheels <strong>and</strong> their compon<br />

e n t s . S e r v i c e s a n d l u b r i c a t e s a i r c r a f t a n d s u b s y s t e m s . P r e p a r e s<br />

aircraft for inspections <strong>and</strong> maintenance checks. Performs scheduled<br />

inspections <strong>and</strong> assists in performing special inspections. Performs<br />

limited maintenance operational checks <strong>and</strong> assists in diagnosing<br />

a n d t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g a i r c r a f t s u b s y s t e m s u s i n g s p e c i a l t o o l s a n d<br />

equipment as required. Uses <strong>and</strong> performs operator maintenance on<br />

tools, special tools <strong>and</strong> aircraft ground support equipment. Prepares<br />

forms <strong>and</strong> records related to aircraft maintenance.<br />

(2) MOSC 67G2O. Performs duties described in paragraph (1)<br />

<strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to subordinate personnel. Performs<br />

o p e r a t i o n a l c h e c k s a n d s c h e d u l e d i n s p e c t i o n s . D i a g n o s e s a n d<br />

t r o u b l e s h o o t s m a l f u n c t i o n s i n a i r c r a f t s u b s y s t e m s . P e r f o r m s a i r<br />

crewmember duties.<br />

(3) MOSC 67G3O. Supervises <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to<br />

subordinate soldiers performing airplane <strong>and</strong> subsystem maintenance<br />

<strong>and</strong> evaluates the technical training program. Evaluates maintenance<br />

operations <strong>and</strong> facilities for compliance with directives, technical<br />

manuals, work st<strong>and</strong>ards, safety procedures, <strong>and</strong> operational policies.<br />

Performs maintenance trend analysis <strong>and</strong> applies production<br />

control, quality control <strong>and</strong> other maintenance management principles<br />

<strong>and</strong> procedures to airplane maintenance operations. Plans, conducts<br />

<strong>and</strong> supervises airplane technical inspections. Computes basic<br />

weight <strong>and</strong> balance records. Participates in maintenance test flights.<br />

Ensures compliance with aircraft configuration control, <strong>Army</strong> Oil<br />

Analysis Program <strong>and</strong> test measuring diagnostic calibration.<br />

(4) MOSC 67G4O. Supervises aircraft maintenance <strong>and</strong> technical<br />

inspection activities. Determines manhours, personnel, parts <strong>and</strong> facility<br />

requirements to repair airplanes <strong>and</strong> associated equipment.<br />
