Mech), CMF 63<br />

a. Major Duties. The light-wheel mechanic supervises <strong>and</strong> performs<br />

unit maintenance <strong>and</strong> recovery operations on gasoline <strong>and</strong><br />

diesel fueled light-wheel vehicles (prime movers designated as 5 ton<br />

or less <strong>and</strong> their associated trailers), <strong>and</strong> associated items; supervises<br />

unit maintenance <strong>and</strong> recovery operations on track <strong>and</strong> heavy-wheel<br />

vehicles, <strong>and</strong> on material h<strong>and</strong>ling equipment (MHE). Duties for<br />

MOS 63B at each skill level are:<br />

( 1 ) M O S C 6 3 B 1 O . M a i n t a i n s p o w e r a s s i s t e d b r a k e s y s t e m s ,<br />

wheel vehicle suspension systems, wheel vehicle wheel/hub assemblies,<br />

wheel vehicle mechanical (manual) steering systems, wheel<br />

vehicle hydraulic (power) steering systems, <strong>and</strong> wheel vehicle crane/<br />

hoise/winch assemblies.<br />

(2) MOSC 63B2O. Perform duties in preceding skill level, supervises<br />

lower grade soldiers <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to the<br />

soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties.<br />

(3) MOSC 63B3O. Perform duties in preceding skill levels, perf<br />

o r m l i g h t - w h e e l v e h i c l e m e c h a n i c ( M O S 6 3 B ) d u t i e s , p e r f o r m<br />

heavy-wheel vehicle mechanic (MOS 63S) duties, perform track<br />

vehicle mechanic (MOS 63Y) duties, supervises lower grade soldiers<br />

<strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to the soldiers in the accomplishment<br />

of their duties. Supervises unit maintenance on wheel<br />

<strong>and</strong> track vehicles, material h<strong>and</strong>ling equipment, power generation<br />

equipment <strong>and</strong> upkeep of h<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> power tools. Perform battlefield<br />

d a m a g e a s s e s s m e n t a n d r e p a i r ( B D A R ) . S u p e r v i s e s r e c o v e r y<br />

operations.<br />

(4) MOSC 63B4O. Perform duties in preceding skill levels, supervises<br />

lower grade soldiers <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to the<br />

soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Light-wheel vehicle mechanics must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222222.<br />

(3) Normal color vision.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area MM.<br />

(5) Current equipment qualification record for all types of equipment<br />

maintained.<br />

(6) Formal training (completion of MOS 63B course conducted<br />

under the auspices of the USA Ordnance Center <strong>and</strong> School) m<strong>and</strong>atory;<br />

or meet the civilian acquired skills criteria listed in AR 601-<br />

210.<br />

10–167. 63D—Self-propelled Field Artillery System<br />

Mechanic (SP FA Sys Mech), CMF 63 (Closed to women—<br />

see chap 13)<br />

a. Major Duties. The self-propelled field artillery system mechanic<br />

supervises <strong>and</strong> performs unit maintenance <strong>and</strong> recovery of all<br />

self-propelled field artillery cannon weapon systems, including the<br />

automotive, turret, fire control, <strong>and</strong> chemical protection subsystems<br />

thereof. Duties for MOS 63D at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 63D1O. Troubleshoots <strong>and</strong> performs unit maintenance<br />

on the automotive systems <strong>and</strong> components of M109/M107/M110<br />

self-propelled howitzers, M548, M578, M88/A1, <strong>and</strong> the 113 family<br />

of vehicles. Maintains diesel power plants/packs, compression ignition<br />

engine fuel systems, compression ignition air induction systems,<br />

track vehicle exhaust systems, air cooling systems, vehicle<br />

liquid cooling systems, vehicle starting systems, vehicle charging<br />

systems, track hull electrical systems, automatic transmission assemblies<br />

crossdrive transmission assemblies, auxiliary drive assemblies,<br />

tract vehicle suspension systems, lockout suspension systems, mechanical/hydraulic<br />

steering systems, track vehicle hydraulic systems,<br />

auxiliary power units, fire extinguisher/suppression systems, <strong>and</strong> gas<br />

particulate filter systems.<br />

(2) MOSC 63D2O. Perform duties in preceding skill level, supervises<br />

lower grade soldiers <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to the<br />

soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Troubleshoots, isolates,<br />

<strong>and</strong> identifies causes of system or component malfunction.<br />

Inspects electrical wiring <strong>and</strong> hydraulic lines.<br />

(3) MOSC 63D3O. Perform duties in preceding skill levels, perform<br />

self-propelled field artillery turret mechanic (MOS 45D) duties,<br />

supervises lower grade soldiers <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance<br />

to the soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Performs<br />

battlefield damage assessment <strong>and</strong> repair (BDAR) of track vehicle<br />

armament/automotive systems. Inspects <strong>and</strong> troubleshoots automotive/armament<br />

systems of M109 series howitzer, M110 series Howitzer,<br />

<strong>and</strong> M992. Inspects <strong>and</strong> troubleshoots automotive systems of<br />

M113 series vehicles, M578 recovery vehicle, <strong>and</strong> M88A1 recovery<br />

vehicle.<br />

(4) MOSC 63D4O. Perform duties in preceding skill levels, supervises<br />

lower grade soldiers <strong>and</strong> provides technical guidance to the<br />

soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Supervises the performance<br />

of battlefield damage assessment <strong>and</strong> repair.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Self-propelled field artillery system must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />
