10–140. 51B—Carpentry <strong>and</strong> Masonry Specialist<br />

(Carpentry & Masonry Sp), CMF 51<br />

a. Major duties. The carpentry <strong>and</strong> masonry specialist performs<br />

general heavy carpentry, structural steel, <strong>and</strong> masonry duties, to<br />

include fabrication, erection, maintenance, <strong>and</strong> repair of rigging devices,<br />

trusses, <strong>and</strong> other structural assemblies. Duties for MOS 51B<br />

at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 51B1O. Employs basic carpentry <strong>and</strong> masonry skills.<br />

Assists in building layout, framing, sheathing, fabrication <strong>and</strong> roofing<br />

structures. Assists in erection of rough timber structures. Reads<br />

<strong>and</strong> interprets drawings, plans <strong>and</strong> specifications. Repairs <strong>and</strong> renovates<br />

all types of structures <strong>and</strong> erects prefabricated buildings. Constructs<br />

concrete form work for slabs, walls, <strong>and</strong> columns. Assists in<br />

p e r f o r m a n c e o f c o m b a t e n g i n e e r m i s s i o n s , R e s e r v e C o m p o n e n t s<br />

(RC) assists in sawmill set up <strong>and</strong> operation.<br />

(2) MOSC 51B2O. Interprets construction drawings <strong>and</strong> blue-<br />

Applies proper concrete curing methods. Directs operational maintenance<br />

on assigned equipment. Reserve Components perform millw<br />

r i g h t , h e a d s a w o p e r a t o r , a n d e d g e r f u n c t i o n s d u r i n g s a w m i l l<br />

operations.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Carpentry <strong>and</strong> masonry specialist must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 111221.<br />

(3) Normal color vision.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area GM.<br />

(5) Freedom from vertigo to permit climbing, balancing, <strong>and</strong><br />

working in high places.<br />

(6) Formal training (completion of MOS 51B course conducted<br />

under the auspices of USA Engineer Center & School) m<strong>and</strong>atory or<br />

meet civilian acquired skills criteria outlined in AR 601-210.<br />

c. Additional skill identifiers.<br />

(1) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.<br />

(2) 4A—Reclassification Training.<br />

10–141. 51H—Construction Engineering Supervisor<br />

(Const Engr Supv), CMF 51<br />

a. Major duties. The construction engineering supervisor supervises<br />

construction, repair, <strong>and</strong> utility services of buildings, warehouses,<br />

fixed bridges, port facilities, <strong>and</strong> petroleum pipelines, tanks,<br />

<strong>and</strong> related equipment. Duties for MOS 51H at each level of skill<br />

are:<br />

(1) MOSC 51H3O. Reads <strong>and</strong> interprets construction drawings.<br />

Estimates material, time, equipment, <strong>and</strong> labor requirements. Supervises<br />

the construction <strong>and</strong> repair of wood frame, concrete, masonry<br />

or prefabricated structures. Supervises the installation <strong>and</strong> repair of<br />

utility systems. Inspects structures <strong>and</strong> facilities to ensure compliance<br />

with specifications. Directs operator maintenance on assigned<br />

vehicles <strong>and</strong> equipment. Directs combat engineering missions.<br />

(2) MOSC 51H4O. Devises network flow diagrams such as the<br />

critical path method <strong>and</strong> coordinates work activities of supporting<br />

units. Provides supervision over all structural <strong>and</strong> utility construction<br />

projects. Inspects subordinate elements to ensure compliance<br />

with directives, construction drawings, <strong>and</strong> specifications. Plans <strong>and</strong><br />

organizes for combat engineering missions.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . C o n s t r u c t i o n e n g i n e e r i n g s u p e r v i s o r s m u s t p o s s e s s t h e<br />

followingqualifications:<br />

(1) Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating—N/A.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 111221.<br />

(3) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area GM.<br />

10–142. 51K—Plumber, CMF 51<br />

a. Major duties. The plumber installs <strong>and</strong> repairs pipe systems<br />

<strong>and</strong> fixtures, <strong>and</strong> petroleum pipeline systems. Duties for MOS 51K<br />

at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 51K1O. Assists in installation <strong>and</strong> repair of pipe systems,<br />

plumbing fixtures, <strong>and</strong> equipment. Reads <strong>and</strong> interprets drawi<br />

n g s , p l a n s , a n d s p e c i f i c a t i o n s . C o n n e c t s p i p e s e c t i o n s u s i n g<br />

appropriate valves, couplings, reducers <strong>and</strong> other fittings by threading,<br />

bolting, soldering, <strong>and</strong> other established joining procedures.<br />

Assists in performance of combat engineer missions.<br />

(2) MOSC 51K2O. Reads <strong>and</strong> interprets drawings, plans, <strong>and</strong><br />

specifications to determine layout <strong>and</strong> identify types <strong>and</strong> quantities<br />

of materials required. Installs <strong>and</strong> repairs pipe systems, plumbing<br />

fixtures <strong>and</strong> equipment. Conducts inspection of plumbing facilities<br />

<strong>and</strong> ensures employment of proper safety procedures.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Plumbers must possess the following qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 111221.<br />

a. Major duties. The firefighter supervises or performs firefighting,<br />

rescue, salvage <strong>and</strong> fire protection operations. Duties for MOS<br />

51M at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 51M1O. Performs rescue <strong>and</strong> firefighting operations<br />

during structural fires, aircraft crash incidents, vehicle emergencies,<br />

<strong>and</strong> natural cover fires. Performs emergency response duties during<br />

hazardous materials incidents. Operates <strong>and</strong> maintains firefighting<br />

e q u i p m e n t a n d v e h i c l e s d u r i n g e m e r g e n c y a n d n o n - e m e r g e n c y<br />

operations.<br />

( 2 ) M O S C 5 1 M 2 O . D i r e c t s r e s c u e a n d f i r e f i g h t i n g o p e r a t i o n s<br />

during structural fires, aircraft crash incidents, vehicle emergencies,<br />

<strong>and</strong> natural cover fires. Directs emergency response crews during<br />
