10–137. 46Q—Journalist, CMF 46<br />

a. Major duties. The journalist participates in <strong>and</strong> assists with the<br />

supervision of the administration of <strong>Army</strong> public affairs programs,<br />

primarily through writing <strong>and</strong> photographing the <strong>Army</strong>’s activities,<br />

for use in the internal <strong>and</strong> external news media. Other major duties<br />

of MOS 46Q at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 46Q1O. Researches, prepares <strong>and</strong> disseminates news<br />

releases on <strong>Army</strong> personnel <strong>and</strong> activities.<br />

(2) MOSC 46Q2O. Performs duties of <strong>and</strong> provides technical<br />

guidance to personnel in the preceding skill level.<br />

(3) MOSC 46Q3O. Performs duties of <strong>and</strong> provides technical<br />

guidance to personnel in the preceding skill level while supervising<br />

the administration of an <strong>Army</strong> public affairs program.<br />

(4) MOSC 46Q4O. Performs duties of <strong>and</strong> provides technical<br />

guidance to personnel in the preceding skill level while supervising<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>Army</strong> public affairs program.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. The journalist must possess the following qualifications:<br />

(1) Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of light.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) A minimum score of 110 in aptitude area GT.<br />

(4) Be able to type 20 WPM prior to school attendance.<br />

(5) Formal training m<strong>and</strong>atory for Active Component <strong>and</strong> nonprior<br />

service ARNG <strong>and</strong> USAR soldiers. Formal training (completion<br />

of Basic Journalist Course at the Defense Information School<br />

(DINFOS), Ft George G. Meade, MD) or completion of Phase I<br />

(MOS 46Q <strong>Army</strong> Correspondence Course) <strong>and</strong> Phase II (RC Introduction<br />

to Journalism Course, Defense Information School) of the<br />

Journalist MOS Qualification program m<strong>and</strong>atory for prior service<br />

ARNG <strong>and</strong> USAR soldiers who did not previously complete the<br />

Journalist Course; or meet civilian acquired skills criteria listed in<br />

AR 601-210.<br />

(6) Be a high school graduate or GED equivalent.<br />

(7) Show proof by official transcript of having successfully completed<br />

at lease two years of high school English.<br />

(8) Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator license.<br />

(1) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.<br />

(2) 2S—Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 <strong>and</strong> above).<br />

(3) 4A—Reclassification Training.<br />

a. Major duties. The broadcast journalist participates in or supervises<br />

the operation of radio or television broadcast section, team,<br />

detachment, or Armed Forces Radio <strong>and</strong> Television Service network<br />

affiliate or comparable broadcast activity. Other major duties of<br />

MOS 46R at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 46R1O. Prepares scripts <strong>and</strong> news copy for AFRTS<br />

radio <strong>and</strong> television programs <strong>and</strong> participates as host, announcer,<br />

master of ceremonies, <strong>and</strong> actor in radio <strong>and</strong> television broadcasts.<br />

(2) MOSC 46R2O. Performs duties of <strong>and</strong> provides technical<br />

guidance to personnel in the preceding skill level.<br />

(3) MOSC 46R3O. Supervises the operation of radio or television<br />

broadcast section or element.<br />

(4) MOSC 46R4O. Supervises the operation of AFRTS affiliates<br />

or comparable broadcast activity, to include separate broadcast section,<br />

team or detachment.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . T h e b r o a d c a s t j o u r n a l i s t m u s t p o s s e s s t h e f o l l o w i n g<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of light.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222121.<br />

(3) A minimum score of 110 in aptitude area GT.<br />

(4) Be able to type 20 WPM prior to school attendance.<br />

(5) Formal training (completion of MOS 46R course conducted<br />

under the auspices of Defense Information School, Ft George G.<br />

Meade, MD) m<strong>and</strong>atory. Formal training consists of two options:<br />

(a) Basic Broadcaster (Course No. 570-46R10) (see DA Pam<br />

351-4) is required for initial entry award of MOS 46R (Active <strong>and</strong><br />

Reserve Component (RC) <strong>and</strong> other than initial entry Reserve Component<br />

soldiers desiring assignment to a Broadcast Public Affairs<br />

Detachment.<br />

(b) RC Basic Broadcaster (Course No. 214 M13 (3 phases) (see<br />

DA Pam 351-20). Phase I - Resident - Introduction to Broadcasting<br />

(RC) at the Defense Information on School; Phase II - Correspondence<br />

- (15 sub courses) completed before attending Phase III; <strong>and</strong><br />

Phase III - Electronic Journalism (Course resident No. 570-F3) at<br />

D e f e n s e I n f o r m a t i o n S c h o o l . C o u r s e i s a n a l t e r n a t i v e t o o p t i o n<br />

(5)(a) above for Reserve Component soldiers who hold a previous<br />

MOS, <strong>and</strong> desire award of MOS 46R with assignment to other than<br />

a Broadcast Public Affairs Detachment.<br />

(6) Have no speech impediments.<br />

(7) Be a high school graduate or equivalent.<br />

(8) Show proof by official transcript of having successfully completed<br />

at least two years of high school English.<br />

(9) Must possess a valid vehicle operator license.<br />

c. Additional skill identifiers.<br />

a. Major duties. The public affairs chief supervises radio <strong>and</strong><br />

television broadcasting, <strong>Army</strong> comm<strong>and</strong> information <strong>and</strong> public affairs<br />

programs. MOS 46Z50 personnel must be able to supervise<br />

personnel performing the duties of MOS 46Q <strong>and</strong> 46R at skill “5”<br />

<strong>and</strong> below.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . T h e p u b l i c a f f a i r s c h i e f m u s t p o s s e s s t h e f o l l o w i n g<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) Hold MOS 46Q or 46R prior to award of MOS 46Z. Under<br />

extraordinary circumstances this requirement is waiverable by the<br />

Chief of Public Affairs, Headquarters, Department of the <strong>Army</strong>,<br />

Washington, DC 20310.<br />

(2) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating is nonapplicable.<br />

(3) A physical profile of 323332.<br />

(4) Minimum score in aptitude area—N/A.<br />

c. Additional skill identifiers.<br />

(1) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.<br />

(2) 2S—Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 <strong>and</strong> above).
