(3) MOSC 31S3O. Plans, supervises, <strong>and</strong> integrates the installation,<br />

operation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance of strategic <strong>and</strong> tactical satellite<br />

communications assemblages <strong>and</strong> systems. Establishes workload,<br />

work schedules, <strong>and</strong> maintenance priorities. Performs <strong>and</strong> supervises<br />

quality control inspections. Requests logistic support. Trains subordinate<br />

personnel in the operation <strong>and</strong> maintenance of satellite <strong>and</strong><br />

associated equipment. Consolidates system <strong>and</strong> network statistics<br />

<strong>and</strong> reports, <strong>and</strong> submits them to network control/management headquarters.<br />

Executes telecommunications service orders (TSO). Performs<br />

coordination with <strong>Army</strong>, Joint, <strong>and</strong> commercial activities to<br />

accomplish satellite <strong>and</strong> distributed communications at all levels of<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

(4) MOSC 31S4O. Supervises, plans, <strong>and</strong> directs the installation,<br />

operation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance of satellite communication systems <strong>and</strong><br />

networks, including strategic, tactical <strong>and</strong> commercial interfaces <strong>and</strong><br />

gateways. Provides technical advice to comm<strong>and</strong>ers <strong>and</strong> assistance<br />

to subordinates. Develops <strong>and</strong> ensures compliance with policy <strong>and</strong><br />

procedures for all types of satellite operational environments. Determines<br />

capabilities <strong>and</strong> limitations of assigned equipment. Writes<br />

telecommunications service requests (TSR) for <strong>Army</strong>, Joint, Defense,<br />

or commercial activities requirements. Disseminates TSO to<br />

subordinate shifts, assemblages, or stations. Conducts technical evaluations<br />

of equipment <strong>and</strong> facilities. Establishes <strong>and</strong> maintains liaison<br />

with supported <strong>and</strong> supporting activities or units. Organizes, instructs,<br />

<strong>and</strong> counsels subordinate personnel. Manages security programs<br />

for satellite operations.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

M O S . S a t e l l i t e c o m m u n i c a t i o n s y s t e m s o p e r a t o r - m a i n t a i n e r m u s t<br />

possess the following qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of moderately heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 212221.<br />

(3) Normal color vision.<br />

(4) Minimum score of 120 in aptitude area EL.<br />

(5) A security clearance of SECRET.<br />

(6) Credit for successful completion of one year of high school<br />

algebra <strong>and</strong> science.<br />

(7) High school graduate or equivalent.<br />

(8) A U.S. citizen.<br />

(9) Formal training (completion of MOS 31S Course conducted<br />

under the auspices of the USA Signal School) m<strong>and</strong>atory or waiver<br />

may be granted by Comm<strong>and</strong>ant, U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Signal School, ATTN:<br />

ATZH-POE, Ft Gordon, GA 30905-5300.<br />

microwave communications <strong>and</strong> technical control facilities, satellite<br />

o p e r a t i o n s c o n t r o l s y s t e m s , l a r g e s a t e l l i t e e a r t h t e r m i n a l s , a n d<br />

transportable satellite systems. Provides technical advice to comm<strong>and</strong>ers<br />

on the integration of telecommunications systems <strong>and</strong> netw<br />

o r k s f o r t a c t i c a l , s t r a t e g i c , a n d c o m m e r c i a l c o m m u n i c a t i o n s<br />

a c t i v i t i e s . P e r f o r m s t e c h n i c a l s t a f f f u n c t i o n s a n d F i r s t S e r g e a n t<br />

duties.<br />

10–104. 31U—Signal Support Systems Specialist (Sig Spt<br />

Sys Spc) CMF 31<br />

a. Major duties. The Signal Support Systems Specialist supervises,<br />

installs, employs, maintains, troubleshoots, <strong>and</strong> assists users<br />

with battlefield Signal support systems <strong>and</strong> terminal devices; integrates<br />

Signal systems <strong>and</strong> networks; performs unit level maintenance<br />

on authorized Signal equipment <strong>and</strong> associated electronic<br />

devices; trains <strong>and</strong> provides technical assistance to users of Signal<br />

equipment; <strong>and</strong> operates <strong>and</strong> performs prevent maintenance checks<br />

<strong>and</strong> service (PMCS) on assigned vehicles <strong>and</strong> power generators.<br />

Duties for MOS 31U at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 31U1O. Installs, maintains, <strong>and</strong> troubleshoots Signal<br />

s u p p o r t e q u i p m e n t a n d t e r m i n a l d e v i c e s . I n s t a l l s , o p e r a t e s , a n d<br />

maintains designated radio <strong>and</strong> data distribution systems. Maintains<br />

selected electronic devices. Performs Signal support functions, to<br />

include providing technical assistance <strong>and</strong> training for user owned<br />

<strong>and</strong> operated automation <strong>and</strong> communications equipment. Prepares<br />

maintenance <strong>and</strong> supply requests for unit level Signal support. Operates<br />

<strong>and</strong> performs PMCS on assigned vehicles. Install, operates, <strong>and</strong><br />

performs PMCS on power generators.<br />

( 2 ) M O S C 3 1 U 2 O . S u p e r v i s e s , i n s t a l l s , m a i n t a i n s , a n d<br />

troubleshoots Signal support systems <strong>and</strong> terminal devices, to include<br />

radio, wire, <strong>and</strong> battlefield automated systems. Provides techn<br />

i c a l a s s i s t a n c e a n d u n i t l e v e l t r a i n i n g f o r a u t o m a t i o n ,<br />

communication, <strong>and</strong> user owned <strong>and</strong> operated Signal equipment.<br />

Disseminates information services policy. Prepares maintenance <strong>and</strong><br />

supply requests for unit level Signal support. Operates <strong>and</strong> performs<br />

PMCS on assigned vehicles. Operates <strong>and</strong> performs PMCS on assigned<br />

power generators.<br />

(3) MOSC 31U3O. Plans, supervises, <strong>and</strong> integrates the installation,<br />

operation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance of Signal support systems, to inc<br />

l u d e r a d i o , w i r e a n d b a t t l e f i e l d a u t o m a t e d s y s t e m s . P l a n s a n d<br />

provide unit level training for automation <strong>and</strong> communications systems<br />

<strong>and</strong> Signal support equipment. Assist in staff supervision of<br />

information services. Plans, supervises <strong>and</strong> executes unit level maintenance<br />

programs for Signal equipment. Prepares <strong>and</strong> integrates Signal<br />

operations orders <strong>and</strong> reports. Requests maintenance <strong>and</strong> supply<br />

replenishment for Signal support operations.<br />

(4) MOSC 31U4O. Supervises, plans, <strong>and</strong> executes the installation,<br />

operation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance of Signal support systems <strong>and</strong><br />

network integration using radio, wire, <strong>and</strong> battlefield automated systems<br />

(BAS). Develops <strong>and</strong> implements unit level Signal maintenance<br />

programs. Directs unit Signal training <strong>and</strong> provides technical<br />

advice <strong>and</strong> assistance to comm<strong>and</strong>ers. Develops <strong>and</strong> executes information<br />

services policies <strong>and</strong> procedures for supported organizations.<br />

Coordinates external Signal support mission requirements. Prepares<br />

<strong>and</strong> implements Signal operations orders <strong>and</strong> reports. Plans <strong>and</strong><br />
