10–71. 18F—Special Forces Assistant Operations <strong>and</strong><br />

Intelligence Sergeant (SF Asst Ops/Intel Sgt), CMF 18<br />

(Closed to women - see chapter 13)<br />

a. Major duties. Employs conventional <strong>and</strong> unconventional warfare<br />

tactics <strong>and</strong> techniques in intelligence collection <strong>and</strong> processing.<br />

Trains <strong>and</strong> maintains proficiency in all major duties. Provides tactical<br />

<strong>and</strong> technical guidance to the Detachment Comm<strong>and</strong>er, indigenous<br />

<strong>and</strong> allied personnel. Plans, organizes, trains, advises, assists<br />

<strong>and</strong> supervises indigenous <strong>and</strong> allied personnel on collection <strong>and</strong><br />

processing of intelligence information. Performs intelligence <strong>and</strong><br />

operational duties when task organized in preparation (isolation) for<br />

special missions <strong>and</strong> during operations. Writes operation plans <strong>and</strong><br />

combat orders, <strong>and</strong> supporting annexes. Conducts briefings, briefbacks<br />

<strong>and</strong> debriefings. Establishes intelligence nets, conducts agent<br />

h<strong>and</strong>ling <strong>and</strong> prepares agent reports within the operational area.<br />

Capable of establishing identify through fingerprinting. Processes<br />

prisoners of war, writes <strong>and</strong> establishes security plan <strong>and</strong> performs<br />

decurity duties. Maintains all classified documents in the operational<br />

area <strong>and</strong> establishes destruction <strong>and</strong> evacuation plans. Provides area<br />

specialist assistance to the detachment, SF, U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, system services<br />

<strong>and</strong> other agencies.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS.<br />

(1) Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating—N/A.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 111221.<br />

(3) Minimum score in aptitude area—N/A.<br />

(4) A security clearance of SECRET.<br />

(5) Must have completed SFQC in MOS 18B, C, D, or E <strong>and</strong> be<br />

awarded a CMF 18 MOS.<br />

(6) Must have completed ANCOC.<br />

(7) Completion of the Special Forces Operations <strong>and</strong> Intelligence<br />

Course is m<strong>and</strong>atory for the award of MOS 18F.<br />

(8) Must meet requirements listed in AR 614-200.<br />

(9) A U.S. citizen.<br />

a. Major duties. Supervises, instructs <strong>and</strong> serves as the senior<br />

enlisted member for SF activities. Trains <strong>and</strong> maintains proficiency<br />

in all major duties associated with Special Forces. Performs administrative,<br />

operational <strong>and</strong> training duties during tasks organization of<br />

the ODA in mission preparation (isolation) <strong>and</strong> during operations.<br />

Performs joint, combined <strong>and</strong> coalition planning <strong>and</strong> supervises operations<br />

for higher headquarters, major comm<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> joint comm<br />

a n d s . P e r f o r m s s e n i o r l e a d e r s h i p , s t a f f , a n d t r a i n i n g f u n c t i o n s<br />

within special forces. Performs duties associated with SQI “M” ,<br />

“P” , <strong>and</strong> “H” .<br />

10–73. 19D—Cavalry Scout, CMF 19 (Closed to women -<br />

see chapter 13)<br />

a. Major duties. The cavalry scout leads, serves, or assists as a<br />

member of scout crew, squad, section, or platoon in reconnaissance,<br />

security, <strong>and</strong> other combat operations. Duties for MOS 19D at each<br />

level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 19D1O. Performs duties as crewmember, operates,<br />

<strong>and</strong> performs operator maintenance on scout vehicles. Armored Airborne<br />

ReconnaissanceVehicle (M551A1), <strong>and</strong> Cavalry Fighting Vehicle<br />

(CFV), HMMWV, M113, crew-served weapons, anti-aarmor<br />

weapons, <strong>and</strong> communications equipment. Loads, clears, <strong>and</strong> fires<br />

individual <strong>and</strong> crew-served weapons. Engages enemy armor with<br />

anti-armor weapons. Operates <strong>and</strong> performs operator maintenance<br />

on wheeled vehicles. Assists in the recovery of wheeled <strong>and</strong> tracked<br />

vehicles. Secures, prepares, <strong>and</strong> stows ammunition on scout vehicles.<br />

Performs mounted <strong>and</strong> dismounted navigation. Serves as memb<br />

e r o f o b s e r v a t i o n a n d l i s t e n i n g p o s t . G a t h e r s a n d r e p o r t s<br />

information on terrain features <strong>and</strong> enemy strength, disposition <strong>and</strong><br />

equipment. Applies principles of escape <strong>and</strong> evasion. Collects data<br />

for the classification of routes, fords, tunnels, <strong>and</strong> bridges. Performs<br />

dismounted patrols. Employs principles of cover <strong>and</strong> concealment<br />

<strong>and</strong> camouflage. Assists with construction of light field fortifications,<br />

laying <strong>and</strong> removal of mines, <strong>and</strong> emplacing demolitions.<br />

Requests <strong>and</strong> adjusts indirect fire.<br />

(2) MOSC 19D2O. Supervises scout vehicle crew, CFV crew,<br />

<strong>and</strong> M551A1 crew. Supervises operator maintenance of tracked <strong>and</strong><br />

wheeled scout vehicles <strong>and</strong> individual <strong>and</strong> crew-served weapons.<br />

Selects, organizes, <strong>and</strong> supervises operation of observation <strong>and</strong> listening<br />

posts. Supervises scout vehicle recovery operations. Trains<br />

scout vehicle crew. Supervises request, receipt, storage, <strong>and</strong> issue of<br />

ammunition. Leads scout vehicle crew <strong>and</strong> assists in leading scout<br />

s q u a d . S e r v e s a s g u n n e r , o n C F V , I T V , H M M W V - T O W , a n d<br />

M551A1. May also serve as an Operations Assistant at brigade or<br />

squadron level.<br />

(3) MOSC 19D3O. Supervises scout sections <strong>and</strong> squads. Directs<br />

tactical deployment of section <strong>and</strong> squads in combat. Supervises<br />

maintenance of assigned vehicles <strong>and</strong> equipment. Collects, reports<br />

<strong>and</strong> evaluates accuracy of intelligence information. Directs reconnaissance<br />

of fording sites, tunnels, <strong>and</strong> bridges. Directs route/area/<br />

zone reconnaissance at section level. Coordinates action of vehicles<br />

with platoon <strong>and</strong> supporting elements. Evaluates terrain, selected<br />

routes, assembly areas, firing positions, <strong>and</strong> positions for combat<br />

operations. Identifies, selects targets, <strong>and</strong> issues fire comm<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

Supervises construction of hasty fortifications. Supervises section<br />

<strong>and</strong> squad resupply of class I, III, <strong>and</strong> V. Trains scout section.<br />

Coordinates requirements for organizational maintenance. Conducts<br />

scout section drills. Calls for, observes, <strong>and</strong> adjusts indirect fires.<br />

May also serve as an Operations Assistant in the squadron/battalion<br />

or higher level staffs <strong>and</strong> as Operations NCO at troop level.<br />

(4) MOSC 19D4O. Assists the comm<strong>and</strong>er or operations officer<br />

in planning, organizing, directing, supervising, training, coordinating,<br />

<strong>and</strong> reporting activities of the scout or armored cavalry platoon<br />

<strong>and</strong> staff sections. Directs distribution of fire in combat. Supervises<br />

platoon maintenance activities. Collects, evaluates, <strong>and</strong> assists in<br />

interpretation <strong>and</strong> dissemination of combat information. Directs platoon<br />

tactical movement, platoon security operations (screening), <strong>and</strong>
