10–51. 13C—Tactical Automated Fire Control Systems
(TAFCS) Specialist, CMF 13 (Closed to women - see
chapter 13)

serves as a member of an activity operating tactical fire direction
TAFCS equipment in a field artillery cannon battalion or higher
unit. Duties for MOS 13C at each skill level are:
(1) MOSC 13C1O. Establishes, maintains, and operates radio and
wire communications. Assists in preparation of computer center for
operation and shutdown. Prepares TAFCS equipment for operation
to include cabling, installation, and removal procedures. Operates
and performs operator maintenance on section vehicles and generators
associated with the TAFCS computer. Performs crew mainten
a n c e a n d p a r t i c i p a t e s i n o r g a n i z e d m a i n t e n a n c e o f s e c t i o n
equipment.
(2) MOSC 13C2O. Assists fire control NCO in supervision of
section training, maintenance, and operations. Performs computer
operations and trains and supervises junior personnel. Initiates computer
center operations, including establishing control information to
establish communications with subscribers. Recognizes partial or
complete TAFCS failures and initiates procedures to correct them.
(3) MOSC 13C3O. Assists fire control NCO in supervision of
section training, maintenance, and operations. Inputs and retrieves
initial information and control and tactical data base information
into TAFCS. Operates TAFCS computer, including processing technical
and tactical data, artillery target intelligence, fire planning
data/survey information, and meteorological data. Assists in the supervision
and directs the construction, camouflage, and defense of
the section position. Supervises the performance of operator, crew,
and organizational maintenance on section vehicles.
(4) MOSC 13C4O. Assists operations NCO and officer in planning,
preparation, and execution of collective training activities of
the section. Supervises TAFCS computer operations. Prepares the
distribution of maps, operational information, and training materials.
Compiles information for and presents briefings on current operations,
situations, and after action reports. Enforces compliance with
security procedures and regulations. Supervises the performance of
operator, crew, and organizational maintenance on section vehicles.

Specialist (FATDS Sp), CMF 13 (Closed to women - see
chapter 13)
a. Major duties. The Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems Specialist
leads, supervises, or serves as a member of an activity operating
FATDS in a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) battalion,
battery, platoon in a field artillery cannon battalion or higher. Duties
for MOS 13D at each skill level are:
(1) MOSC 13D1O. Establishes, maintains and operates communications
systems. Assists in preparation of computer center for operat

cabling, installation, and removal procedures. Inputs initialization
data and data base information to FATDS. Maintain fire capabilities
maps and charts. Operates and performs operator maintenance on

FATDS. Performs crew maintenance and participates in organizational
maintenance of section equipment.
(2) MOSC 13D2O. Assists FATDS NCO in supervision of all
fire control operations in MLRS platoon fire direction center. Operates
FATDS at MLRS battery and battalion, cannon battalion and
higher echelons. Performs computer operations including fire mission
processing, fire plan schedules and data base construction.
Initiates computer center operations, including establishing control
information, communications with digital subscribers and data base
initialization. Performs operator, crew and organizational maintenance
on section equipment.
(3) MOSC 13D3O. Assists FATDS NCO in supervision of all
fire control operations in MLRS firing battery and battalion, cannon
battalion and higher echelons. Supervises fire direction operations
i n c l u d i n g p r e p a r a t i o n f o r o p e r a t i o n s , c o m m u n i c a t i o n s s e t u p a n d
maintenance. Supervises fire mission processing, fire support planning,
fire support execution, movement control, field artillery miss
i o n s u p p o r t , f i e l d a r t i l l e r y f i r e d i r e c t i o n o p e r a t i o n s , f i r e p l a n
scheduling and entry of commanders guidance. Maintains current
situation data. Supervises the performance of operator, crew and
organizational maintenance on section vehicles.

Supervises and conducts fire support execution, movement
control, field artillery mission support, field artillery fire direction
operations. Directs troubleshooting of FATDS hardware, software,
database and communications to ensure continuity of operations.
Directs and performs systems administration and troubleshooting.
Assist S3 with conduct of field artillery estimates and movement
planning. Compiles information for and presents briefings on current
operations, situation and after action reports. Enforces compliance
with security procedures and regulations. Assists operations officer
and NCO in planning, preparation and conduct of collective training
for the unit. Supervises the performance of operator, crew and
organizational maintenance on section vehicles and equipment.
b. Physical demands ratings and qualifications for initial award
of MOS. FATDS operations specialists must possess the following
qualifications:
(1) A physical demands rating of moderately heavy.
(2) A physical profile of 222221.
