10–47. 12C—Bridge Crewmember, CMF 12<br />

a. Major duties. Bridge crewmembers comm<strong>and</strong>, serve, or assist<br />

as a member of a squad, section or platoon. They provide conventional<br />

<strong>and</strong> powered bridge <strong>and</strong> rafting support for wet <strong>and</strong> dry gap<br />

crossing operations. Duties for MOS 12C at each level of skill are:<br />

(1) MOSC 12C1O. Operates bridge truck <strong>and</strong> light vehicles. Operates<br />

the bridge erection boat. Prepares bridge site, h<strong>and</strong>les shore<br />

lines, <strong>and</strong> assists in rafting operations. Assists in the installation of<br />

overhead anchorage system components. Installs kedge anchorage<br />

systems. Launches or retrieves ribbon bridge bays. Assists in the<br />

assembly of military bridges. Prepares <strong>and</strong> installs demolition firing<br />

s y s t e m s . A r m s , i n s t a l l s , a n d d i s a r m s a n t i p e r s o n n e l o r a n t i t a n k<br />

mines.<br />

(2) MOSC 12C2O. Directs construction of fighting positions <strong>and</strong><br />

wire entanglements. Employs the M180 demolition cratering charge.<br />

Determines limiting slopes, curves, stream velocities, <strong>and</strong> gap width.<br />

Conducts engineer reconnaissance. Directs crew in the assembly <strong>and</strong><br />

maintenance of fixed bridges. Directs crew in the assembly of raft<br />

<strong>and</strong> float bridges. Operates <strong>and</strong> or supervises the use of bridge<br />

erection boats.<br />

(3) MOSC 12C3O. Supervises personnel in the installation <strong>and</strong><br />

removal of a hasty protective minefield. Collects data <strong>and</strong> calculates<br />

the demolition requirement for explosives <strong>and</strong> related materials.<br />

Conducts road, tunnel, ford, <strong>and</strong> bridge reconnaissance. Directs the<br />

off-loading <strong>and</strong> assembly of float <strong>and</strong> fixed bridges. Performs float<br />

<strong>and</strong> fixed bridge site layout. Supervises installation of an overhead<br />

cable anchorage system.<br />

(4) MOSC 12C4O. Assigns tasks to subordinate personnel. Enforces<br />

safety st<strong>and</strong>ards, field sanitation, communication procedures,<br />

security <strong>and</strong> job specification. Plans <strong>and</strong> supervises personnel in the<br />

construction of float <strong>and</strong> fixed bridges. Supervises in mine warfare,<br />

demolitions, <strong>and</strong> combat construction operations. Conducts platoon<br />

reconnaissance missions.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area CO.<br />

(5) Formal training (completion of MOS 12C course conducted<br />

under auspices of U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Engineer School) m<strong>and</strong>atory.<br />

(6) Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator license.<br />

c. Additional skill identifiers.<br />

(1) P5—Master Fitness Trainer.<br />

(2) 2S—Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 <strong>and</strong> above).<br />

a. Major duties. Inspects <strong>and</strong> advises on bridging, rafting, <strong>and</strong><br />

river crossing operations. Formulates <strong>and</strong> maintains construction<br />

schedules. Assists in supervision of troops in assault operations.<br />

Performs ground <strong>and</strong> aerial reconnaissance. Advises engineer staff<br />

section personnel in matters involving combat engineer operations.<br />

Coordinates with staff agencies for engineer operational <strong>and</strong> tactical<br />

support. Coordinates employment of engineer elements operating<br />

with infantry <strong>and</strong> armored units. Inspects construction sites <strong>and</strong><br />

enforces job specification <strong>and</strong> safety st<strong>and</strong>ards. Collects, interprets,<br />

analyzes, evaluates, <strong>and</strong> disseminates intelligence data.<br />

b. Physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating <strong>and</strong> qualifications for initial award of<br />

MOS. Combat engineering senior sergeants, 12Z5O, must possess<br />

the following qualifications:<br />

10–50. 13B—Cannon Crewmember, CMF 13 (Closed to<br />

women - see chapter 13)<br />

a. Major duties. The cannon crewmember supervises or serves as<br />

a member of field artillery cannon section or ammunition section.<br />

(1) MOSC 13B1O. Integral member of a crew that operates high<br />

technology cannon artillery weapon systems. Loads <strong>and</strong> fires howitzers.<br />

Sets fuse <strong>and</strong> charge on a variety of munitions, including<br />

high explosive artillery rounds, laser guided projectiles, scatterable<br />

mines, <strong>and</strong> rocket assisted projectiles. Uses computer generated fire<br />

direction data to set elevation of cannon tube for loading <strong>and</strong> firing.<br />

Employs rifles, machine guns, <strong>and</strong> grenade <strong>and</strong> rocket launchers in<br />

offensive <strong>and</strong> defensive operations. Drives <strong>and</strong> operates heavy <strong>and</strong><br />

light wheeled trucks <strong>and</strong> tracked vehicles. Transports <strong>and</strong> manages<br />

artillery ammunition. Participates in reconnaissance operations to<br />

include security operations <strong>and</strong> position preparation. Operates in<br />

reduced visibility environments with infrared <strong>and</strong> starlight enhancing<br />

night vision devices <strong>and</strong> other equipment. Coordinates movement<br />

into position. Camouflages position area. Communicates using<br />

voice <strong>and</strong> digital wire <strong>and</strong> radio equipment. Uses critical combat<br />

survival skills to operate in a hostile environment. Maintains operational<br />

readiness of vehicles <strong>and</strong> equipment.<br />

(2) MOSC 13B2O. Supervises h<strong>and</strong>ling, transportation, accountability,<br />

<strong>and</strong> distribution of ammunition. Assists section chief in superv<br />

i s i o n o f h o w i t z e r o p e r a t i o n s , m a i n t e n a n c e , a n d t r a i n i n g . L a y s<br />

weapon for direction, conducts bore sighting <strong>and</strong> basic periodic<br />

tests. Supervises the operation, loading, <strong>and</strong> maintenance of the<br />

Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicle.<br />

(3) MOSC 13B3O. Directs <strong>and</strong> supervises movement emplacement<br />

of the howitzer section. Supervises <strong>and</strong> directs the construct<br />

i o n , c a m o u f l a g e , a n d d e f e n s e o f t h e s e c t i o n p o s i t i o n . T r a i n s ,<br />

instructs, <strong>and</strong> supervises section personnel in cannon gunnery procedures<br />

<strong>and</strong> firing. Responsible for the verification of safe firing data.<br />

Supervises the h<strong>and</strong>ling, storage, accountability, <strong>and</strong> distribution of<br />

ammunition. Supervises the performance of operator, crew, <strong>and</strong> organizational<br />

maintenance on section vehicles.<br />

(4) MOSC 13B4O. Assists platoon leader in the planning, preparation,<br />

<strong>and</strong> execution of collective training activities of the platoon.<br />

Conducts battery/platoon reconnaissance, selection, occupation, <strong>and</strong><br />

defense of position areas. Supervises firing battery personnel engaged<br />

in firing battery operations, maintenance, <strong>and</strong> training. Lays<br />

the unit for direction of fire <strong>and</strong> verifies safe operations before <strong>and</strong><br />

during firing. Supervises battalion ammunition trains operations. Reviews,<br />

consolidates, <strong>and</strong> prepares technical, personnel, <strong>and</strong> administrative<br />

reports covering firing battery element activities.<br />

b . P h y s i c a l d e m a n d r a t i n g a n d q u a l i f i c a t i o n s f o r t h e i n i t i a l<br />

award of MOS. Cannon crewmember must possess the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

(1) A physical dem<strong>and</strong>s rating of very heavy.<br />

(2) A physical profile of 222221.<br />

(3) Color discrimination of red/green.<br />

(4) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area FA.
