(i) Implements the operational aspects of the automated network.<br />

(j) Implements procedures for detecting <strong>and</strong> reporting COMSEC<br />

insecurities.<br />

(k) Uses automated network management tools <strong>and</strong> supervises<br />

others in their use.<br />

(l) Coordinates network troubleshooting <strong>and</strong> restoration of communications<br />

paths to maintain robust network <strong>and</strong> subnetworks.<br />

(m) Manages <strong>and</strong> monitors deployment, installation, activation,<br />

<strong>and</strong> movement of tactical communications facilities of the network<br />

<strong>and</strong> subnetworks.<br />

(2) CM3—<br />

(a) Performs duties described in paragraph g(1).<br />

(b) Plans message, circuit, <strong>and</strong> data switching support for a brigade<br />

or larger network.<br />

(c) Manages personnel, equipment, <strong>and</strong> facilities to provide mess<br />

a g e , c i r c u i t , a n d d a t a s w i t c h i n g n e t w o r k s s u p p o r t i n g e c h e l o n s<br />

above Corps.<br />

(d) Manages networks including, but not limited to, MSE, TRI-<br />

TAC, TRI-TAC Block III, Enhanced Position Location Reporting<br />

Systems (EPLARS), Joint Tactical Information Distribution System<br />

(JTIDS), <strong>and</strong> their interfacesat boundaries between <strong>and</strong> among Division,<br />

Corps, <strong>and</strong> echelons above Corps.<br />

(e) Performs AMPSSO functions <strong>and</strong> provides oversight of the<br />

AMPSSO program.<br />

(f) Manages development of network databases.<br />

(g) Manages key variables for the Corps, directs key variable<br />

management of subordinate elements of the network <strong>and</strong> subnetworks,<br />

<strong>and</strong> manages recovery from key variable compromise.<br />

(h) Plans, directs, <strong>and</strong> manages the development, installation, activation,<br />

<strong>and</strong> movement of communications facilities comprising the<br />

networks <strong>and</strong> subnetworks.<br />

(i) Provides technical guidance <strong>and</strong> directio to subordinate operating<br />

elements.<br />

(j) Identifies <strong>and</strong> resolves network problems.<br />

(3) CW4—<br />

(a) Performs duties described in paragraph g(2).<br />

(b) Develops policy <strong>and</strong> provides guidance for management of<br />

Corps networks.<br />

(4) CW5—<br />

(a) Performs duties described in paragraph g(3).<br />

(b) Develops policy <strong>and</strong> provides guidance for management of<br />

theater networks.<br />

b. Grading <strong>and</strong> position titles. Authorized position titles are provided<br />

in tables 6-2 <strong>and</strong> 6-3. The following grades are used to code<br />

positions into one of four definable skill levels: W2 equals WO1/<br />

CW2; W3 equals CW3; W4 equals CW4; <strong>and</strong> W5 equals CW5. The<br />

grades are listed in the following st<strong>and</strong>ards of grade tables:<br />

(1) Table 8-250N-1. St<strong>and</strong>ards of grade TOE/MTOE.<br />

(2) Table 8-250N-2. St<strong>and</strong>ards of grade TDA.<br />

8–40. Area of Concentration 251—Data Processing<br />

Operations<br />

There is one warrant officer specialty within this AOC. The skills<br />

<strong>and</strong> knowledge required to qualify for this specialty provides the<br />

<strong>Army</strong> with a source of ADP operational <strong>and</strong> programming expertise.<br />

8–41. <strong>Military</strong> <strong>Occupational</strong> Specialty 251A—Data<br />

Processing Technician<br />

a. Licensing/certification requirement. None.<br />

b. Prerequisites. DA Cir 601 series.<br />

c. MOS 251A. MOS 251A0 is an accession MOS. The enlisted<br />

feeder MOS is 74B. MOS 251A8 is a nonaccession MOS supported<br />

by officer first qualified in MOS 251A0.<br />

d. Associated SQI.<br />

(1) 0—No special qualifications.<br />

(2) 7—Parachutist.<br />

(3) 8—Instructor.<br />

f. Qualifications.<br />

(1) WO1/CW2 must—<br />

(a) Complete the Data Processing Technician Warrant Officer<br />

Basic Course.<br />

(b) Meet vision <strong>and</strong> hearing st<strong>and</strong>ards of AR 40-501 for assignment<br />

of officers to Signal Corps <strong>and</strong> have full use of both h<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

( c ) B e a U . S . c i t i z e n . Q u a l i f y f o r a s e c u r i t y c l e a r a n c e o f<br />

SECRET.<br />

(2) CW3 must—<br />

(a) Meet qualifications described in paragraph f(1).<br />

(b) Complete the Data Processing Technician Warrant Officer<br />

Advanced Course.<br />

(3) CW4 must—<br />

(a) Meet qualifications described in paragraph f(2).<br />

(b) Complete the Warrant Officer Staff Course (WOSC).<br />

(4) CW5 must—<br />

(a) Meet qualifications described in paragraph f(3).<br />

(b) Complete the Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course (WOSSC).<br />

g. Duties.<br />

(1) WO1/CW2—<br />

(a) Manages personnel, facility, <strong>and</strong> equipment assets for an automatic<br />

data processing section, machine room, or other major division<br />

of an ADP unit.<br />

(b) Conducts data systems analysis, designs or redesigns data<br />

systems, <strong>and</strong> develops computer programs.<br />

(c) Supervises <strong>and</strong> coordinates activities of military <strong>and</strong> civilian<br />

personnel who operate electronic data processing machines.<br />

(d) Conducts ADP system studies in broad subject field to include<br />

personnel, intelligence, transportation, supply, maintenance,<br />

<strong>and</strong> finance, applying established techniques to develop new systems<br />

or improve existing systems.<br />

(e) Consults with staff officers <strong>and</strong> comm<strong>and</strong>ers to define priorities<br />

of tentative <strong>and</strong> continuing projects <strong>and</strong> allocates machine operating<br />

time to accomplish the mission.<br />

(f) Develops work schedules (man, machine, <strong>and</strong> job) to meet all<br />

requirements.<br />

(g) Directs training of personnel in operation of computers, their<br />

peripherals, <strong>and</strong> all off-line equipment.<br />

(h) Works with programming personnel in testing new <strong>and</strong> revised<br />

programs.<br />

(i) Develops operating methods or routines to modify input, output,<br />

or internal system formats.<br />

(j) Directs, controls, <strong>and</strong> observes the flow of control data, programs,<br />

<strong>and</strong> input/output through the computer <strong>and</strong> computer area.<br />

(k) Aids operators in locating <strong>and</strong> overcoming error conditions.<br />

(l) Makes program <strong>and</strong> data input revisions through computer<br />

console to maintain operations.<br />

(m) Reviews internal equipment utilization reports prepared by<br />

subordinates <strong>and</strong> prepares utilization reports in accordance with<br />

governing directives for submission to higher echelons.<br />

(n) Performs functions associated with automation security such<br />

as Information Systems Security Officer.<br />

(o) Advises the comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> staff on the tactical <strong>and</strong> technical<br />

deployment <strong>and</strong> utilization of ADP systems, hardware, software, <strong>and</strong><br />

personnel.<br />

(2) CW3—<br />

(a) Performs the duties described in paragraph g(1).<br />

(b) Provides technical guidance <strong>and</strong> direction to subordinate operating<br />

elements.<br />

(3) CW4—<br />

(a) Performs the duties described in paragraph g(2).<br />

(b) Provides guidance <strong>and</strong> technical direction to subordinate operating<br />

<strong>and</strong> staff elements.<br />

(4) CW5—<br />

(a) Performs the duties described in paragraph g(3).<br />
