sinner, but actually taking upon Himself sinful<br />

nature.... Himself voluntarily descended to the<br />

level of sinful man.... <strong>The</strong>re was in His whole life a<br />

struggle. <strong>The</strong> flesh, moved upon by the enemy of<br />

all righteousness, would tend to sin, yet His Divine<br />

nature never for a moment harboured an evil<br />

desire, nor did His Divine power for a moment<br />

waver.<br />

Indeed, this view must have been "shocking" to<br />

G. I. Butler. He telegraphed the delegates at<br />

Minneapolis to "stand by the old landmarks" and<br />

thus reject Waggoner's message, for this as well as<br />

for other reasons.<br />
