22. What kind of death did Jesus die on His<br />
cross? How does that relate to the real purpose<br />
of His becoming one with us?<br />
In past decades we as a denomination have not<br />
emphasized the reality of Christ's death on the<br />
cross as being the second death. But recently, this<br />
idea has begun to find recognition. It was clearly<br />
recognized in the Sabbath School Quarterly for the<br />
Fourth Quarter 1994, and in Dwight Nelson's <strong>The</strong><br />
Godforsaken God (1993). It is also presented in<br />
this author's Grace on Trial (1988, pp. 39-41), and<br />
"Lightened With His Glory" (1991; pp. 17,18,<br />
etc.). This truth packs a powerful charge of<br />
spiritual dynamite.<br />
In becoming man and dying our death, Christ<br />
won the right to become the new Head of the<br />
human race. He is now the "last Adam," having<br />
replaced the former head of our race who fell into<br />
sin. Had Christ not taken our fallen nature and<br />
"become sin for us who knew no sin," He could not<br />
