CHAPTER FOUR
Çréväsa’s Love for Lord Nityänanda and the
Dream of Mother Çacé
Nityananda Prabhu thus remained at the house of Çréväsa
Paëòita. He was constantly absorbed in a childish mood,
and He would not eat food with His own hand but had Mälinédevé
feed Him just like her own son. Mäliné-devé 7 , the chaste
wife of Çréväsa Paëòita, knew very well the glories of Lord
Nityänanda, so she served Him as an affectionate mother.
One day, as Lord Gauräìga discussed Kåñëa with Çréväsa
Paëòita, He spoke as follows to test him: “Why do you keep this
mendicant in Your house? We do not know anything about His

of Gaurasundara. In her previous incarnation, she was an elderly
gopé of Vraja who gave her breast milk to Kåñëa. That is why Nitäi and
Gauräìga treated her as a mother in this incarnation. According to
her previous mood, she lavishly nourished both Nitäi and Gauräìga.
