devotees inquired, “O Lord, who are You calling by the name
Näòä?”
“It is He by whose loud call I have appeared,” the Lord replied.
“The one you all call Advaita Äcärya 5 is known as Näòä.
I have appeared because of Him.”
5 Advaita Äcärya appeared on the seventh day of the waxing
moon in the month of February in the year 1356 Çaka era, in the
village of Çréhaööa within the subdivision of Läur. His father’s name
was Kuvera Paëòita and His mother’s name was Labhä Devé. Kuvera
Paëòita was a minister in the assembly of King Divya Siàha. The
son of Kuvera Paëòita was given the name Kamaläkña and was the
combined form of Mahä-Viñëu, Ujjvala Sakhä, Sampürëa Major, and
Sadäçiva. Later, he was known as Advaita Äcärya. When He was
twelve years old, Advaita Äcärya came to reside at Çäntipura. After
the death of his parents, he went to Gayä to offer oblations to His
forefathers. Thereafter, He traveled to many holy places of pilgrimage
and in the course of his journey, He arrived at Våndävana. In Våndävana,
He discovered the Deity of Madana Gopäla that was previously
worshiped by Kubjä. He entrusted the Deity of Madana Gopäla to
a Chaube brähmaëa of Mathurä. (This Deity became famous as the
Madana-mohana Deity of Çréla Sanätana Gosvämé). Advaita Äcärya
returned to Çäntipura, taking with Him a picture painted by Viçäkhä
at Nikuïjavana. He took initiation from Mädhavendra Puré when
he came to Çäntipura on the way to Néläcala to collect sandalwood
for his Lord. Later Advaita Äcärya married the two daughters of
Nåsiàha Badhuri, a resident of Saptagräma. The two girls’ names were
Çré and Sétä Öhäkuräëé. In due course of time, He begot six sons—
Acyutänanda, Kåñëa Miçra, Gopäla, Balaräma, Çvarüpa and Jagadéça.
In response to the worship and prayers of Advaita Äcärya, Çré Çré
Nitäi-Gauräìgadeva, along with Their associates, appeared upon the
surface of the earth and delivered all the residents of the three worlds.
After assisting Lord Caitanya in His pastimes, Advaita Äcärya disappeared
from this world in the year 1480 Çaka era.
