Licensed for Personal Use Only CHAPTER THIRTEEN The Birth of Véracandra Prabhu and Disappearance of Lord Nityänanda Lord Nityänanda enjoyed unlimited and inconceivable pastimes at Ambikä-kälnä. In spite of manifesting so many pastimes, no one could recognize Him, as fish are unable to see the moon reflected on the surface of the ocean. Once, Lord Nityänanda thought, “I will build an äçrama at Khaòadaha to follow the orders of My Lord. I will open up a marketplace for distributing the holy names of the Lord.” After contemplating in this way, Nityänanda Prabhu went to Khaòadaha to manifest His pastimes. He followed the principles of household life and manifested the service of the Deity, Çré Çyämasundara. Çré Jähnavä and Çré Vasudhä constantly worshiped the lotus feet of Nityänanda. The Lord empowered them with His energies. He enjoyed various pastimes with both consorts, fulfilling their hearts’ desires. On an auspicious day, at an auspicious time, and during a most auspicious conjunction of the stars, the fortunate Vasudhä bore a son who was as bright as the moon. The people of the three worlds floated in an ocean of bliss, chanting the holy names of Lord Hari. The multitudes in heaven and on earth glorified Vasudhä for having such a beautiful child. He was born on the fourth day in the bright fortnight of the moon in the month of January. Vasudhä gave birth to this child after keeping him in her womb for fifteen months. It was Lord Gauracandra who manifested as Çré Véracandra Prabhu. Those who never saw Gauracandra were able to see Him in the form of Véracandra. This most enchanting child enjoyed numerous childhood pastimes as he grew up. One day, while Lord Nityänanda was sitting in the courtyard, Abhiräma 24 arrived. He called out loudly, “O dear brother, Balaräma,” and entering the courtyard, began to laugh. Lord Nityänanda rushed to embrace him. Abhiräma sweetly said to Nityänanda, “I heard that You have a son. Let me see him. I want to offer him obeisances.” “You know everything,” Nityänanda said. “I do not know who has come as My son.” Nityänanda Prabhu and Abhiräma mostly communicated with each other by gestures and postures. Out of love and affection, they embraced one another and cried. When Vasudhä heard that Abhiräma had come, she thought, “I do not know what plan Kåñëa has. I have heard lately that any Deity Abhiräma offers obeisances to immediately cracks.” The child Véracandra was lying on a wooden cot holding a colorful piece of cloth on his chest, his eyes half-closed so that it appeared as if lotus petals were trapping bumblebees in the 24 Abhiräma was the cowherd boy of Vraja named Çrédäma. He did not take birth from the womb of a mother.
