Lord Nityänanda’s Departure for Néläcala and His Glorification by Lord Caitanya
dental ecstasy. After Caitanya and Nityänanda regained Their
composure, They sat down together in a secluded flower garden.
The talks between the Controller and the Supreme Controller
in that garden are known only to the Vedas.
Whenever Lord Nityänanda and Lord Caitanya met each
other like this, They would do so without any associates. By the
supreme will of Çré Caitanya, not a single person heard the blissful
talks that the two Lords enjoyed. Knowing the Lord’s mind,
Nityänanda Svarüpa purposely met Him alone.
Nityänanda Prabhu always tried to conceal Himself, because
the Lord did not wish for Him to manifest Himself to everyone.
The heart of the Supreme Lord is most soft and mysterious.
This is the opinion of the Vedas, as well as authorities like Lord
Brahmä. No one knows Him in truth and yet, as far as they are
able, they attempt to glorify Him. This is the verdict of Goddess
Lakñmé: The Lord’s wonderful qualities are such that everyone
thinks that He loves them the most.
Nityananda Prabhu often spoke very confidentially to Çré
Caitanya. He once said, “I would like to live the life of an ascetic
and worship Kåñëa wholeheartedly. I do not know why He
had me give up that life to carry a stick, flute, books, peacock
feathers, guïjä-mälä, and ropes. It is understood that of all the
devotees of the Lord, the cowherd boys and girls are the best.
The devotional service performed by the cowherd boys and girls
of Våndävana is the result of their severe austerities. Exalted
personalities, such as Lord Brahmä and Lord Çiva, also desire to
attain this mood. Only a recipient of the Lord’s mercy is qualified
to receive vraja-bhakti.
That Çré Uddhava desires this devotional mood of Vraja is
found in Çrémad-Bhägavatam 10.47.63.
vande nanda-vraja-stréëäà päda-reëum abhékñëaçaù
yäsäà hari-kathodgétaà punäti bhuvana-trayam
“I repeatedly offer my respects to the dust from the
feet of the women of Nanda Mahäräja’s cowherd village.
When these gopés loudly chant the glories of Çré
Kåñëa, the vibration purifies the three worlds.”
