A Brähmaëa’s Doubt about the Character of Lord Nityänanda and Its Removal by Lord Caitanya<br />

those six sons to my mother. That is why I have come here to<br />

you. Drinking milk from Devaké’s breast will release these six<br />

from Brahmä’s curse.<br />

“‘Lord Kåñëa continued, “O Bali, consider the consequences<br />

of ridiculing a Vaiñëava. If perfect personalities like these received<br />

so much misery, what will be the fate of ordinary men? A<br />

sinner who criticizes a Vaiñëava suffers misery birth after birth.<br />

Take this lesson to your heart. Never blaspheme or laugh at a<br />

Vaiñëava. If one worships Me and chants My holy names, but<br />

blasphemes devotees, he will be vanquished. Those who show<br />

love and respect to My devotees will surely obtain My favor.<br />

There is no doubt about this.<br />

‘The Varäha Puräëa states:<br />

siddhir bhavati va neti saàçayohucyata sevinäm<br />

niùsaàçayastta tadbha-garicaryyaratätmanäna<br />

‘One may doubt whether the servant of the Supreme<br />

Lord will attain perfection, but there is absolutely<br />

no doubt that those who are attached to serving<br />

His devotees will attain perfection.’<br />

‘In Çré Hari-bhakti-sudhodaya it says:<br />

arcaittva tu govindam tadéyännäccayatmane<br />

na te viñëu prasädasya bhäjanaà dänbhikä janäù<br />

‘If one does not worship My devotees but only worships<br />

Me then he is simply a proud person and not a<br />

recipient of My mercy.’<br />

‘O Bali, I explained this confidential topic to you because<br />

you are My eternal and dear servant.’<br />

“Bali Mahäräja was very pleased to hear the teachings of<br />

Lord Kåñëa. Obeying the Lord’s order, he at once brought the<br />

six sons and offered them to the Lord. Kåñëa and Balaräma took<br />

these six sons and returned them to mother Devaké. When Devaké<br />

saw her sons, out of affection she happily fed them breast<br />
