ÇRÉ NITYÄNANDA CARITÄMÅTA
Nityänanda Prabhu, along with His associates, happily resided
at the village of Pänihäöi for some time. Always overwhelmed
with prema, Nityänanda would often go into a trance of ecstasy.
When He desired to dance, three famous singers would hurriedly
come. Greatly pious Mädhava Ghoña was very expert in
performing kértana. Indeed, there was no better singer in the
world. He was known as the singer of Våndävana and was very
dear to Nityänanda Svarüpa.
As soon as the three brothers, Mädhava, Govinda, and
Väsudeva, would begin to sing, the Supreme Lord Nityänanda
would begin to dance. When supremely powerful Avadhüta
Nit-yänanda danced, the earth would shake with His every
step. He continually chanted the Holy name of Lord Hari. Seeing
His towering figure and ecstatic dancing, the people were
struck with wonder. Sometimes, when He glanced at someone
while dancing, that person would fall onto the ground, being
filled with love of God and absorbed in transcendental mellows.
This marked the auspicious beginning of Lord Nityänanda’s
deliverance of the fallen conditioned souls. He would
dance for a long time, manifesting all the signs of ecstatic love
of Çré Kåñëa.
After some time, Nityänanda Prabhu sat down on a throne
and ordered His servants to perform His abhiñeka. All the devotees,
headed by Räghava Paëòita, quickly arranged for the abhiñeka,
bringing thousands of pitchers of Ganges water that was
then mixed with varieties of perfume. With great satisfaction,
they poured this scented water on Lord Nityänanda’s head.
Everyone chanted, “Hari, Hari!” on all sides. They recited
suitable mantras while performing the abhiñeka and sang songs
in glorification of Nityänanda Prabhu. All the Lord’s associates
became submerged in an ocean of bliss. After the abhiñeka, the
devotees dressed Nityänanda Prabhu in new cloth and applied
sandalwood paste to His body. They decorated His broad chest
with a garland of beautiful flowers and tulasé leaves. They then
placed a throne decorated with gold before the Lord.
Lord Nityänanda sat upon the throne while Çré Räghavänanda
held an umbrella above His head. The devotees began
to glorify Nityänanda Prabhu so that there arose a great cry on
