ÇRÉ NITYÄNANDA CARITÄMÅTA
indifference even to those who are as dear to Him or even dearer
to Him than His own life. Such are the inconceivable and incomprehensible
pastimes of the Lord. Only a person favored by
the Lord can understand them. The fact is that the Lord, out of
His own sweet will, broke the daëòa and then became angry.
“This daëòa was My only remaining possession,” the Lord
said. “But today, by the will of Kåñëa, that also has been broken.
I think I should travel alone. So, either all of you go first, or else
I will go first.”
“O Lord, You go first,” Mukunda 20 said. “We have some duties
to perform and then we will follow You.”
“Good.” Saying this, Gaurasundara departed like an invincible,
ferocious lion. After only a few moments, the Lord reached
the village of Jaleçvara. There, He visited the temple of Jaleçvara.
The servants and worshipers of Lord Çiva were astonished
to see the Lord. They concluded that it was none other than
Lord Çiva who had personally come before them. With great
enthusiasm and jubilation, the Çaivites sang and played musical
instruments as the Lord danced in ecstasy.
After awhile, the Lord’s associates, headed by Mukunda, arrived
there, and they also began to sing. Seeing His dear devotees,
the Lord became more blissful and continued dancing as
they surrounded Him.
Who has the power to describe the symptoms of prema that
were visible on the body of Lord Caitanya? Tears poured from
His eyes like the flow of the Ganges. This abode of Çiva became
most glorious as the Lord of Vaikuëöha personally danced there.
After manifesting spiritual bliss for some time, the Lord became
calm and sat down with His dear associates. He then embraced
everyone with love, making them happy and fearless.
Seeing Nityänanda Prabhu, the Lord embraced Him and
said, “You were supposed to look after Me so that I could protect
My renounced order of life, but on the contrary, You want to
20 Mukunda was one of the Lord’s singers. He was born in a
Datta family of Caööagräma in present-day Bangladesh. Later, he
came to reside at Navadvépa. His elder brother was Väsudeva Datta.
