Çréla Våndävana däsa Öhäkura is forever remembered in
the communities of Vaiñëavas for his wonderful literary work,
Çré Caitanya-bhägavata. The glories of Çré Caitanya-bhägavata
were nicely described by Çréla Kåñëadäsa Kaviräja Gosvämé in
his book Çré Caitanya-caritämåta as follows:
manuñye racite näre aiche grantha dhanya
våndävana-däsa-mukhe vaktä çré-caitanya
“No human being can compose such a book. Actually,
Lord Caitanya Mahäprabhu speaks through the
mouth of Çréla Våndävana däsa Öhäkura.”
(Çré Caitanya-caritämåta Ädi-léla 8:39)
Çré Caitanya-bhägavata is a biography of Çré Caitanya
Mahäprabhu written in the Bengali language that was compiled
before Çré Caitanya-caritämåta. Following in the footsteps of the
statements of Çré Caitanya-bhägavata, other books, such as Çré
Caitanya-caritämåta, were compiled. Çré Nityänanda-caritämåta
has been compiled from the statements of Çré Caitanya-bhägavata
about Lord Nityänanda and additional pastimes have
been added. These include the affection of Häòäi Paëòita for
Lord Nityänanda, the marriage of Vasudhä and Jahnavä with
Lord Nityänanda, and the disappearance of Lord Nityänanda.
For this reason, Çré Nityänanda-caritämåta is very similar to Çré
Caitanya-bhägavata. It is hoped that this book narrating the pastimes
of Lord Nityänanda will serve as a great inspiration for
Vaiñëavas worldwide.
A Short Biographical Sketch of
Çréla Våndävana Däsa Öhäkura
Çréväsa Paëòita, an intimate associate of Çré Caitanya
Mahäprabhu, had an elder brother named Nalina Paëòita. His
daughter, Çré Näräyaëé-devé, was the mother of Çréla Våndävana
