Lord Gauräìga Discusses His Sannyäsa with Lord Nityänanda
sign of the zodiac to the next, I will certainly leave home to take
sannyäsa.
“There is a village called Katwa near the village of Indräëé,
where the renowned Keçava Bhärati resides. I am destined to
accept sannyäsa from him. Tell this to only five persons: My
mother, Gadädhara, Brahmänanda, Çré Candraçekara Äcärya,
and Mukunda.”
Upon learning that the Lord’s wonderfully attractive hair
would be shaved, Nityänanda’s heart, mind, body and life seemed
to shatter. He was so bewildered in mind that He could not even
think of what to suggest. All that He knew was that the Lord
would certainly take sannyäsa.
“My Lord, You are supremely independent,” Nityänanda
Prabhu said. “Whatever You desire will certainly happen. Who
can instruct You about the rules and regulations for accepting
sannyäsa? Whatever You desire is the confirmed truth. You are
the maintainer and Lord of all the universes. Therefore, You
know best what is most appropriate. Who else but You knows
the ways and means for delivering the fallen souls of this world?
Your nature is that You are supremely blissful and independent.
Therefore, whatever You desire will take place. Still, You inquire
from Your servants as a formality, just to see what they will say.
You will do whatever You desire. Who can oppose Your will?”
Çré Gauräìga Mahäprabhu was pleased to hear these words
of Nityänanda Prabhu, and He embraced Him again and again.
After discussing His plans with Nityänanda, Gaurahari returned
to the assembly of Vaiñëavas. Realizing that the Lord
would soon leave home and accept sannyäsa, Nityänanda was
stunned and could hardly utter a word.
When Nityänanda finally composed Himself, He began to
contemplate as follows: “How will mother Çacé survive after the
Lord’s departure? How will she spend her cruel days and nights?”
These thoughts made magnanimous Nityänanda Prabhu
practically lose consciousness. Thinking about the imminent
miseries that mother Çacé would experience, He cried constantly
in a solitary place.
Accepting Çré Caitanya and Nityänanda Prabhu as my life
and soul, I, Våndävana däsa, sing the glories of Their lotus feet.
