Mädhäi’s Prayers to Nityänanda Prabhu<br />

and His Devotional Service<br />

By the mercy of Lord Caitanya, both Jagäi and Mädhäi<br />

continued to reside at Nadia as the most pious persons.<br />

They woke up early in the morning and bathed in the Ganges<br />

at a solitary place. They regularly chanted the holy names of<br />

Kåñëa two hundred thousand times a day. They constantly condemned<br />

themselves for all their past misdeeds and cried while<br />

chanting the holy names. Receiving the mercy of Kåñëa, they<br />

became most magnanimous, seeing everyone as being dear to<br />

Kåñëa. Remembering their former envy, they would constantly<br />

cry and fall onto the ground.<br />

“Gauracandra, O dear father, You are the deliverer of the<br />

fallen souls.” Remembering this constantly, they constantly shed<br />

tears. In ecstatic love for Kåñëa, they forgot to eat. Remembering<br />

the causeless mercy of Lord Caitanya, they would cry piteously.<br />

Lord Viçvambhara and His followers repeatedly consoled<br />

them with sweet and assuring words. Although the<br />
