“In Your previous incarnation, You delivered many sinful
persons. Those wonderful pastimes are glorified throughout the
universe. Delivering us, who are the most sinful persons, will
certainly diminish the glory of Your previous pastimes. Our deliverance
now overshadows Your pastime of delivering Ajämila.
We are not exaggerating—we simply speak the truth.
“Ajämila was a natural candidate for attaining liberation. A
person who has killed a million brähmaëas is at once liberated if
he simply utters Your holy names. This is the conclusion of the
Vedas. Ajämila chanted Your holy name and so his deliverance
was not at all astonishing.
“You incarnate to confirm the statements of the Vedas. If
You did not deliver the most fallen souls, then the statements of
the Vedas would prove false. We harmed the person who is dearest
16 In his previous incarnation, Väsudeva Datta was a famous
singer-associate of Çré Kåñëa named Madhuvrata. He was born in
the village of Cakrasala at Caööagräma, which is located in presentday
Bangladesh. Later, he came to reside at Navadvépa. His youngest
brother, Mukunda Datta, was a singer-associate of Çré Gauräìga.
Once, he requested the Lord to give everyone’s sinful reactions to him,
so that they could be delivered immediately.
