when part of them are united to the world and<br />

many are given to covetousness, which God<br />

abhors, He can do but little for them. Unbelief and<br />

sin shut them away from God. We are so weak that<br />

we cannot bear much spiritual prosperity, lest we<br />

take the glory and accredit goodness and<br />

righteousness to ourselves as the reas<strong>on</strong> of the<br />

signal blessing of God, when it was all because of<br />

the great mercy and loving-kindness of our<br />

compassi<strong>on</strong>ate heavenly Father and not because<br />

any good was found in us.<br />

Faith and Works<br />

Work, 51-54 (1892).] In praying for the sick, it is<br />

essential to have faith; for it is in accordance with<br />

the word of God. “The effectual fervent prayer of a<br />

righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16. So we<br />

cannot discard praying for the sick, and we should<br />

feel very sad if we could not have the privilege of<br />

approaching God, to lay before Him all our<br />

weaknesses and our infirmities, to tell the<br />

compassi<strong>on</strong>ate Saviour all about these things,<br />
