increases with every indulgence, as the desire for<br />

intoxicating drink strengthens with its use. The<br />

<strong>on</strong>ly safe course is to shun the theater, the circus,<br />

and every other questi<strong>on</strong>able place of amusement.<br />

There are modes of recreati<strong>on</strong> which are highly<br />

beneficial to both mind and body. An enlightened,<br />

discriminating mind will find abundant means for<br />

entertainment and diversi<strong>on</strong>, from sources not <strong>on</strong>ly<br />

innocent, but instructive. Recreati<strong>on</strong> in the open<br />

air, the c<strong>on</strong>templati<strong>on</strong> of the works of God in<br />

nature, will be of the highest benefit.<br />

Exercise as a Restorer<br />

101 (1890).] The idea that those who have<br />

overtaxed their mental and physical powers, or<br />

who have been broken down in body or mind, must<br />

suspend activity in order to regain health is a great<br />

error. In a few cases, entire rest for a time may be<br />

necessary, but such instances are rare. In most<br />

cases the change would be too great to be<br />

beneficial.<br />
