he is disobedient to the law of God and to the laws<br />

of health. Appetite c<strong>on</strong>quers him; inclinati<strong>on</strong><br />

carries him away. It is easier for him to allow the<br />

powers of evil, which are always active, to drag<br />

him backward, than to struggle against them, and<br />

go forward. Dissipati<strong>on</strong>, disease, and death follow.<br />

This is the history of many lives that might have<br />

been useful in the cause of God and humanity.<br />

Temptati<strong>on</strong> Through Appetite<br />

One of the str<strong>on</strong>gest temptati<strong>on</strong>s that man has<br />

to meet is up<strong>on</strong> the point of appetite. In the<br />

beginning the Lord made man upright. He was<br />

created with a perfectly balanced mind, the size<br />

and strength of all his organs being fully and<br />

harm<strong>on</strong>iously developed. But through the<br />

seducti<strong>on</strong>s of the wily foe the prohibiti<strong>on</strong> of God<br />

was disregarded, and the laws of nature wrought<br />

out their full penalty.<br />

Adam and Eve were permitted to eat of all the<br />

trees in their Eden home save <strong>on</strong>e. The Lord said to<br />

the holy pair, In the day that ye eat of the tree of<br />
